[LOCKED] You are entitled to....NOTHING!
I am exhausted by the absurdity and unrealistic expectations placed on UM football and Harbaugh. The "why aren't we Bama or OSU yet crowd".... get a fucking grip and grow up. Yeah, it sucks that it is taking longer than we expected and hoped for...and shit, god forbid, maybe we don't get to elite status. UM is not a football factory, it never has been. We will hopefully compete for the playoff (we have been 1 game short in 2 of Harbaugh's 4 seasons - after the dumpster fire that was the RR and Hoke years) and it seems we are a few players and schematic changes away from getting there. The "unacceptable", "I feel insulted", entitled, recency bias, torch and pitch fork, reactionary crowd need to find another fucking team or grow the fuck up. We all want better - as an alum, nothing would be more amazing than to attend a national title game.
We are not elite, but SURPRISE!- we don't suck anymore. And if you give the man more than 4 years, and stop canabilizing the program through negativity and staff turnover, we'll probably get even better than the three - 10 win seasons he has produced in 4 years after inheriting a moribund program.
And no, Harbaugh is not perfect and has plenty of flaws and we can critique it all, and the team was uninspired for that UF game and there is much improvement to be had and criticism is absolutely warranted. But if you think anybody better is walking through the door to take the job, which does not allow for SEC win at all costs tactics (and with this delusional and entitled fanbase nonetheless - some who absurdly want him out after 4 years of clear improvement over the past 20 years) get a clue. Harbaugh is the best thing for UM football and it means more to him to get them over the top than any of you vitriolic spewing morons. How long did it take Dabo to get Clemson to this point? - And we sure as hell know he can cut corners that Harbaugh can't.
Harbaugh can easily walk back to the NFL as a top 5 coach and not have to deal with our shit, delusional fanbase, or media just waiting for his every misstep or failure. Just be happy he has stuck around to get us to where we are, including this great incoming recruiting class....Oh, and he's done it without cutting corners, keeping some semblance of the student-athlete experience about which we all like to boast, unlike the Bama's and OSU's of the world running farcical university experiences to poor mask what are NFL football factories.
If you wish to share tactical, coaching, schematic or talent critiques, I think this board is fair and open to it. If you just want to spew UNACCEPTABLE, I AM ENTITLED TO MOAR WINS! - go fuck off. You aren't entitled to shit.
[edit: mgowill] Probably best to lock this now since it seems to be going in circles.

Well said! People need to look at where the program is today compared to where it was a few short years ago.

How can idiots criticize recruiting but at the same time have "expectations" to beat all the teams that supposedly out recruit us?
That's cognitive dissonance !

No. It's the expectation that good coaching can overcome a talent difference. The bowl game aptly demonstrated that to anyone looking.

Soooo ...Harbaugh being part of one of the greatest upsets at Stanford, plus a "fuzzy loss" in 2016 in Columbus, show he has "overcome talent difference"; therefore, he is a "good coach".
And for anyone "looking" at the bowl game what was aptly demonstrated was that the team had propped it's emotion on the "revenge game" and when it failed to deliver in Columbus the team, just like the majority of the fan base, stopped caring because they lost the ONLY game that mattered.
Which is why the team went lifeless after our RB steps out of bounds by an inch.

Is your point that Harbaugh now seems to be much less effective than Harbaugh at Stanford and Harbaugh circa 2016? If so, I'd agree with you.
The team goes lifeless after our RB steps out of bounds because they lack resolve. That's a coaching issue too.

No, my point was your take is illogical.
But I'll agree Harbaugh is less effective as a college coach than he was at Stanford, and his offensive philosophy, which still had some effectiveness in 2016, is losing it's effectiveness quickly and he needs to adapt.
I also completely agree that a college coach has to manage the emotions of 18-22 AMATURES and that is probably one of the things Harbaugh enjoys least about this level; consequently, he doesn't seem that good at it yet.
But he's also shown the ability to find a way to make his teams waaaay over achieve plus has adapted to be successful at every level of football.

Now that's something I can agree with you on.
I watched Harbaugh build that Stanford team as a Cal season ticket holder. It was incredibly impressive. However, I think a lot of his success was due to the introduction of high-level manball to the Pac 10. It was such an anomaly. Hitting on Andrew Luck was also huge for them.
Harbaugh's 2015 turn around of Michigan was equally impressive as anything he did at Stanford. He took Hoke's broken team, that probably would have won less than 5 games that year, added a middling Iowa QB and made the team highly functional, instantly.
His 10-3 season that year was much more impressive (at least to me) than this year's 10-3. Jake missed spring ball and was super raw in Harbaugh's first game at Michigan (played at night on the road in Utah), but they looked immediately better than anything Hoke managed in the recent past.
I'd just like some more of THAT coach Harbaugh. It's fine if he can't do it - perhaps, amazing program turnarounds are his thing and that's fine.

Not Bama, but maybe OSU? Notre Dame? Oklahoma? I get people have this belief that EVERYONE cuts corners OUTSIDE of Michigan. That's our justification. Truth be told, we have as much talent as teams we are losing to. (That's why we were favored to win).
Our problem is scheme. Which is a kind and gentle word for coaching. We were out schemed by OSU. Period! So because of stubbornness or arrogance (you choose) we run the fullback twice and can't pick up a yard.
I'm not saying fire Harbaugh. What I am saying is that Jim is not perfect, and should be criticized when the record doesn't reflect the talent. We have talent on this team. Bama just places their players in better positions to be successful.

Not entitled. Just wanted Michigan to beat Ohio State this year.
I didn't really care about bowl games, etc.
But hey, there's always next year, right?

In all three loses this year the team was down double digits late and were still more worried about killing the clock than scoring, effectively waving the white flag. Do I have to accept that?

Believe what you want just passing it on. Davis will be fired after the Rose Bowl. OSU is very confident they have him wrapped up. Michigan needs to step up big financially to keep him.

Quit drinking and go to bed. I have not seen a single person on this board say “we should BE bama or OSU by now” all we say is “we should be able to BEAT osu by now.

If you're satisfied with losing to Ohio State every year, go root for Indiana.
I'm dead serious. If you agree with this OP, get the fuck out. We don't want you. We don't need you. You can root for Indiana and be perfectly satisfied in your mediocrity.

Right on point! I have been a U of M fan for almost 50 years. I have been through Bo, Mo, Lloyd, RR and Hoke. Harbaugh has taken the same shit from this fan base as Bo did. God, how many times I heard that Bo was old, out of step with the times, blah, blah, blah. Jim is delivering and will continue to improve. So you fans can piss and moan, but this program, and this university, does not kneel or take a backseat to anyone. We play the toughest schedules with student athletes, and produce at over 70% of the time consistently. We shy away from no one. All of our programs represent this university and fan base with class and pride. Forever...Go Blue!
