Apparently Rashan Gary is starting his own agency and will sign with Rashan Gary Sports. He has hired an agent to work for him and will use the logo he has been showing off all year. Good for him and his entrepreneurial spirit! Glad that Michigan education is doing him good already!

Rashan should represent all Michigan athletes commission free on their first contract. Would be a good way to get the business off the ground by bringing in a lot of clients.

Perhaps to follow in the footsteps of several other sports agents who were varsity athletes at Michigan.  Former Michigan baseball superstar Casey Close represented Derek Jeter and Ryan Howard, among others.  Former Michigan basketball player Rob Pelinka represents Kobe Bryant.

I know there are others out there, but those are probably the 2 biggest names.

The legal aspect of this venture is intriguing...  He has no law degree - not even close - so will be completely out of his league in an office with lawyers arrayed against him.  Yes, he's hired an agent who is (most likely) a qualified lawyer.  But what does he do when an adversary counsel levels a question at him?  Does he just defer to the agent all the time, or try answering himself?  Because I can see experienced lawyers talking in lawyerly circles around him.  And if I'm the client, I'm not sure I want the guy I signed with getting confused by lawyers that are trying to get the best deal for not me.  And that is exactly what they'll try to do - take advantage of the player playing agent.  And I'm also not sure if I want the guy I signed with to not represent me (by constantly, and immediately, referring questions to someone else).

Rashan is smart, and I'm sure (and really hope) that he's done his homework on this.  I wish him all the luck in the world.  It'll be interesting to see more about how he structures the working roles within his company.  His name, as an active player, will certainly draw clients.  But how does he, himself, influence negotiations?

Best of luck to him, I don't think he has the talent on the field to carry an entire agency so I hope he is able to sign some players quickly. Most overrated, overhyped, underperformer to come through Ann Arbor in quite some time.
