New 2020 QB Offer

Submitted by jbibiza on December 7th, 2018 at 8:53 AM

After losing the Georgia kid to Tennessee (?!?) it looks like our 2020 QB board is opening up. This kid is a three star but he just released his Junior highlights (linked below) and I think he will rise quickly. Reminds me of McCaffrey, though this kid is already up to 210 so will be more physically ready.

Nice/interesting film. He trusts his receivers! He has a lot of experience playing under duress!!! Good arm...quick release...good mobility/escapability...looks like a good option.

Looks like a very good option. He has a quick release (if a little funky) and more importantly does a great job of keeping his body loaded to be able to throw at any time. Active footwork. Can throw different trajectories and does not need to be perfectly aligned to throw an accurate pass. Good arm, but not Joe Milton. Dropped a couple snaps. Missed a couple open plays, but seemed to do a nice job reading the offense. Runs a pro style passing offense with some familiar route combinations. Anticipates the throw. Very good pocket awareness. Fast enough to be a running threat, but not a dynamic ball carrier.

According to Max Preps, 63% completion with 17/7 TD to INT and 2004 yards on 196 attempts.

I really don’t understand QB ratings sometimes. He looks like a 4-Star to me.

Pinnacle HS is I think where Brian Lewerke came from, and I think right now has a kid who's committed to Oklahoma as the starting QB?

Maybe low rank is simply from a lack of PT so far.

Kinda disappointing, I don’t think we have a starter after McCaffrey on roster and so losing the Tennessee kid because of the Pep rumors and then still not even losing Pep, that hurts. Kid coulda waited a couple weeks..

Through 12 games, only two conference schools attempted fewer passes than Michigan: Wisconsin and Maryland. Michigan's QBs attempted 310.

Through 12 games, Michigan had the highest number of rushing attempts of all conference teams—surpassing even Wisconsin—at 519.

In 2017 through 12 games, Michigan's QBs attempted 301 passes. So for all of Patterson's obvious superiority in throwing the ball over the previous year's QBs, we threw the ball 9 more times over the course of the season.

To me, total pass attempts are not as important as the ability to pass effectively when needed. I believe progress was made, and more is coming...and qb / o-line development is on the rise.

Also, as an aside, found a picture of delany and a hat I think would go well with his hairstyle.

Perceived depth at QB is scaring kids away. Nobody wants to come in to a complex system that takes years to learn sitting behind highly rated players at the same position. If you are a high 4, or 5 star you want to start as a true freshmen and throw it 40-50 times per game.

After McCaffrey went down, I felt we were very thin at QB. When Shea ran in the Indiana game, I was just hoping he went down before getting hurt. It surely didn’t feel like we had a ton of QB depth.
