MSU doing free admission to UM vs MSU Men's Soccer tonight 8pm
No. 13 MSU is hosting No. 18 Michigan for Men's soccer tonight, with the Big Bear trophy on the line (it's a real thing). They have made it free admission in order to flood the gates and try to win against the good guys, and per a co-worker sent out a mass email last night trying to get anyone and everyone to show up.
My guess is they are desperate for a win vs Michigan, being 0-6 or whatever on the year. Just putting this out there in case there are any local Lansing types or current Michigan students who want to keep the tidal wave vs MSU going. It should be a good game: last year MSU won by a goal in overtime, though they are not ranked as highly this year.
If you don't go, it will be on BTN. If you do go, the game is at DeMartin Soccer Stadium, just North of Jennison Field House and East of the Kellog Center. Dress warm, and prepare to stand. Go Blue!

Edit: or maybe they read Seth's thread on the current year domination.

While I didn't graduate from Ross or anything, that looks like 38-4 to me, not 41-4 (it appears the 3-0 football/basketball record may have been counted twice). Just wanted to point that out to make sure anyone who wants to (rightfully) taunt sparty with this stat does so using the correct numbers.

I got one of those emails. Really confused as to how they got my address. As a Lansing res I would totally go to this had I not already froze my butt off watching the rugby match last Friday. Also, it's not fun watching games at MSU. I'd rather drive the 90 minutes to Ann Arbor.

I'm in the greater Lansing area. It sounds like your opinion is based on prior experiences. Care to share? I've got young kids and like to get the family out to events like these where possible. What's your take?

I've never gotten too much shit or anything like that. I just prefer to be with my fellow Wolverines and not get dirty looks from everyone the whole game.
If that's not something you care about, more power to you. I just don't feel comfortable letting myself be a fanatic behind enemy lines.

Good deal. Thanks for the insight. I figured that our family loves soccer and loves UM, so why not put the two together. We've been here for a bit now, and so we're used to getting the sideways looks. Most of the time, having the little kids around us helps to deflect most of it.

Living in the Lansing area as well, I've never had much problems at non-basketball/football games up at State, especially if you bring kids (prepare to get chatted up by the parents of players remembering when their kids were 12 years younger).

Yes. Avoid strenous activity until you get your butt reattached.

I don't follow Big 10 soccer that well, but the Barone family is a big name in the club soccer here on the west side of the state. One of the older brothers (Domenic?) Is a coach for Midwest United and I have seen him verbally abuse a a ref in this 10 or 11 yr old youth game. These refs are usually about 15-17 yr olds. They have had 4 or 5 kids in the MSU soccer program over the years, and they fit the culture to a T

Man, do I wish that ref abuse was limited to msu a-holes, but I’m afraid it’s probably more persuasive than that. When I was reffing from age 12 to 21, in retrospect, it’s straight up nutso the way parents would behave. There was a team of 12 year olds who’s coaches pulled their team off the field during the middle of the game because they didn’t like the calls. That was bad, but could’ve been worse. The week prior, those same parents parked their cars to block the previous ref from leaving so they could berate him in his car in the parking lot after the game.

Will MSU soccer team wear helmets for pre-game "march"?

Don't even need to buy a six pack of Coke?
October 23rd, 2018 at 3:20 PM ^
Nope, just an empty botlle of Muscle Milk, or a used Steroid syringe has been known to work as well. The 1st 50 to enter get a lifetime penpal membership with Larry Nassar

What's normal admission? $2?

I was wondering how MSU can grant free admission to UM. Seems like it would be the other way around.

Thats actually kind of cool. I wish pistons or red wings would do this from time to time. The stadium is half empty anyways. I wish they would just say hey our team sucks but come have fun buy some overpriced food and beer

Scoreless tie at the half.

1-1 at the 78' mark
Swiech off the free kick sends it to Hague, but he can't control it. Kleedtke is there at the back post to tap it in and we're level!

1-1 final after 2 OT
Sparty can't win at home.

Good game, packed stands, and fun to see at least a third with maize and blue.
A couple of great Michigan shots on goal in the last minute of OT had everyone up.
