Iowa-Indiana postponed due to metal from ceiling falling at Assembly Hall

Just heard it on the radio and it's all over the twitter.

Luckily nobody was hurt.

Good thing it happened now instead of during the game. The metal fell from the ceiling down to the stands.

They're holding a press conference about this right now. No change in venue for the women's game tomorrow:

This IndyStar article has a good summary of the info from the news conference.

IU athletic director Fred Glass said at a news conference Tuesday night that a women's basketball game against Michigan will go on as scheduled Wednesday night at Assembly Hall. Glass said fans will be kept away from the corners of the arena, where the danger exists.

Snow and ice accumulation caused problems in the corners of the arena, Glass said, describing it as a "fairly focused issue." He said what happened wasn't because of a "long-term corrosive event" but an immediate, traumatic event.

U officials said they expect to know by about noon Wednesday whether the next regularly-scheduled men's basketball game, against Ohio State on March 2, can be played at Assembly Hall.

The Big Ten's policy on rescheduling basketball games gives the schools 72 hours to agree on a time and place to play the game. If the schools can't agree, the league commissioner will reschedule the game.

That's about the worst I've seen hit the stands.  About the only thing worse was when that one stadium dropped the scoreboard right onto the playing floor.  Hard to believe they can be confident that the place is safe.

This could end up impacting the Big Ten race.  Iowa is only a game behind in the loss column, but they're now going to have a very crowded schedule the rest of the way - six games in 2.5 weeks.
