RIP Michigan-Minnesota rivalry

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Michigan will play Minnesota twice in the next 8 seasons, both in Minneapolis.

The earliest we could possibly play them at home again is 2026.

Series that has been played 103 times and went uninterrupted from 1919-1998. Two year hiatuses happened in 1999-2000, 2009-2010 and took a year off in 2016. 2 meetings in the next 8 seasons.

But hey, we get those Rutgers and Maryland games every year! Who needs tradition that goes before this wonderful league was even created when you have cable subscribers, a booming industry that has a bright future.

Should be consistent rotation IE

This year play NW, Nebraska, Wisconsin so next year for example  play @Illinois(I believe Illinois traveled here last so go to them), home against Iowa, @Minnesota, then play Purdue at home then IE home against NW and @Nebraska. Rotating teams and home-away probably isn't bullet proof.

Stupid damned Big 10 expansion and money-grubbing "championship" game. Take me back to the 10 team Big 10 with a round robin schedule. Best conference record wins the conference and goes to a bowl game. Other nine watch it on TV.

OK, we can't play them every year, but Instead of the home-and-home then multi-year hiatus, I wish they'd put cross-division (and ND) on a cycle where we'd play them every two or three years, which would mean getting them at home every four or six years.

The Big 10 schedule and (mis)management has been shitty at best.  Delaney and his greedy administration have allowed these scandals to repeat themselves and have not preserved any sense of tradition except in the worst ways.

Not gonna lose sleep over this, but I share your sentiment (if rather less intensely).  I would gladly trade a Minnesota today for a Buttgers and Maryland any day.
