OT: USA Today Worst 50 Cities
South Bend made the list at #40 for violent crime rate (??) that is sure to get worse September 1st.
Ohio had Toledo, Dayton, Cleveland and Youngstown on the list.
Michigan had Flint, Kalamazoo and Detroit (#1) on the list.

Battle Creek should be on the list before Kalamazoo.
Hey, the Burque is only the 45th worst city to live in! Lots to like about living out here, but the crime is pretty terrible.
I actually think Kalamazoo is a fairly nice city to live in with a large university and a downtown that has been renovated the last few years. Seems like Benton Harbor, Muskegon, Pontiac, and Saginaw would be worst than the Zoo.
Benton Harbor, Muskegon, and Saginaw are all below the 50K population cutoff.
There have been numerous articles in the Detroit News and other regional publications about the worst places to live in Michigan over the last several years, and I am proud to say to my fellow downriver brethren - if any of you are on this site - that we traditionally have the 15-30 range on that list locked up.
I always though Kalamazoo was a nice town, at least 30 years ago when I lived in the state. Detroit and Flint does not surprise me.
Not one Columbus joke yet?
It tells itself.
Considering all the cottonwood falling into my beer glass at the moment, I vote my city as the worst!
Having lived in Detroit (#1 worst), as well as the #10 best (Seattle) and one of the world's best cities (Berlin), here's what separates them:
Every pocket of Seattle and Berlin has functionality - good services, buses that run on time, street lighting, and dense neighborhoods. Detroit has that...in a few pockets.
Until the connective tissue between Midtown and University Village and Indian Village improves, Detroit will consistently rank on this list.
Yay Dayton...I knew my life sucked
Like most USA articles, they distort and twist the facts to fit the message the want to convey.
I get Flint, Detroit, and South Bend being on that list, but Kalamazoo?
No.
