This was not the worst of Al Borges... am I the only one who thinks Gardner looked a lot more poised both throwing and running the ball in OT? The only incompletions were drops by the recievers...

You mean other than the incompletions that were thrown to Northwestern DBs and LBs that they dropped?
I'm usually pretty defensive of Gardner, but I was pretty disappointed in his throwing today.

I thought today's play-calling actually wasn't that bad. Last week was the worst I've seen since OSU last year, but today really was about a lack of execution, in my opinion.
Not kicking the FG was awful, and the fade to Gallon was pretty bad too, but I thought the drives were killed by bad execution: Gallon with the drops, O-line having some lapses (Schofield comes to mind), Gardner looking awful for the first 59:00, etc.
I think Borges still needs to go, but the 9 points in regulation had more to do with the kids than the coaches (for once), I thought.

Bad call knowing Al is going to call the play

November 16th, 2013 at 8:49 PM ^
My problem with the call is that you know your line isn't opening up any holes, you haven't been able to pick up a third and short in weeks, you just lost a yard on third and one... there is no reason to make that call there. Now, if the offense is rolling a bit, maybe. But with this offense, take the points when they are there.
November 16th, 2013 at 9:08 PM ^
But agreed, the call puts ALL the pressure on the OLine.
If you're going to run Devin. Put him in the gun, have Green be a lead blocker and run a straight QB Blast.

The team (including the coaches) never quit. They deserve to enjoy this.

NW lost many close games and had a number on injuries to get to 0-5. Hats off to they way they (NW) continue to fight.

meaningless win in a season where we'll end up 7-6 vs. the ability to get the correct coaching staff for the future of michigan footbll, ill take the loss
November 16th, 2013 at 10:40 PM ^
So sad dude, so sad. After reading a comment like this it's obvious that the extent of your sports ended at "everyone plays" city rec leagues. As Coach Hoke said, these kids are playing for each other, and for Michigan. YOU might not be happy with the win, and YOU might think that the season is meaningless, but there are 100+ guys, plus all the coaches and staff, that have put more effort into this season than you've likely put into anything.
Oh, and you can see the future huh? So, where is the top for the S&P? Let me know so I can get my shorts in.

too bad they aren't playing for the fans, since if it wasn't for the fans they wouldnt be playing football at all. Im not sure why its so hard for people to understand that college football exisits for the fans, not for the players. take away the 100,000 fans and some of these players wouldnt even be going to college

Go pretend to be a fan of someone else. You sure as hell aren't a Michigan fan.

have fun wih 8-4 and 7-5 every year, is that all you hope for on a yearly basis?
November 17th, 2013 at 8:23 AM ^
You're wishing for losses yet pretending to be a Michigan fan.
November 16th, 2013 at 8:28 PM ^
In the past 3 years, our QBs have been regressing during the season. I don't care about this game's result, the play call is still bad enough anyway. Many of them are still very predictable, I can even tell from TV what they are trying to do based on the formation. DG is staring the WR when throwing, and to avoid INT, he is willing to take sacks, but missed a lot fo WR one on one chance. There is no way we can win more game without throwing deep.

Wanted us to lose? No. No matter how bad, that wouldn't happen.
Said that we would lose? No. Go back and read the thread.
Said a lot of negative stuff about bad things that were happening? Yes.
Sorry if I don't get too giddy about a win against a big ten doormat in which we still didn't look very good outisde of overtime.

the BTN coverage was awful, pretty sure I missed half of a kick off and play the ten interviews about the upcoming 1973 thing with just audio so I can watch the football game that I paid to watch....
November 16th, 2013 at 8:37 PM ^
What in the hell is going on we won it doesn't matter how. I have watched the Lions for the last 40 yrs and if I learned anything it is if you won or lost Thats it, NOTHING else matters. I thought for sure we wouldn't have to listen to nickb "fire Borges, fire Borges, fire Borges," It won't b long till he asking for Hokes head along with the rest of this fire Borges crowd . I would have swore he would have been at the Spartan game. Maybe he actually is a UM fan, naw those who bleed maise and blue know that these seasons happen even during the Bo years when he had all his recruits in place.
November 16th, 2013 at 8:40 PM ^
I'm always happy about a win. But if this saves Borges' job, it won't be worth it. The only positive thing that can come out of the off-season is Al and Coach Funk's firings. That being said, as long as Hoke is in charge, we have an unacceptably low ceiling, probably somewhere around 8-5. He's shown over and over this season that he's not the man. He's in way over his head and needs to go. After 8-5/7-6 in 2014 and 2015, he'll be let go, but it's going to be a tough couple years.

WHen the O-Line is as poor as our's, you need to go with the big backs that can gain a yard or two after contact or break arm-tackles. That's not Fitz's game.
The weakness of the O-Line should have been acknowledged a while ago, and this move made a while ago.
November 16th, 2013 at 8:42 PM ^
November 16th, 2013 at 8:46 PM ^
That would require a major "turnaround" by OSU, too.
November 16th, 2013 at 8:53 PM ^
The coaching was still pretty bad. How many times did they run something, get good yardage, and then go back to the same play, only to have Northwestern ready for it and it get stuffed? What about counters?
November 16th, 2013 at 8:59 PM ^
My wife made a hilarious comment in the second overtime. She noticed Michigan had basically been running the same plays. She mentioned our nephew's third grade rocket team that does the same thing and wondered why Michigan was doing. Just say'n.
November 16th, 2013 at 9:07 PM ^
November 16th, 2013 at 9:13 PM ^
Because my wife is competent enough to see the same formation over and over throughout the game. And the quarterback is doing the same thing he did under the previous formation. The wide receivers also did the same thing with each formation. Need I go on? So yes, I guess she knows the nuances of a Michigan offense. Dumb or not, that's your opinion.
November 16th, 2013 at 9:27 PM ^
Obviously they were blocking on run plays, but was she able to pick up what route combinations we were running throughout the game? If so I would like to know what they were
