Link? Link.
I wonder if he will still face suspension?

EDIT: Apparently, the victim didn't want to press charges. Weird.

Yeah, I'm watching it more and this girl was hurt! Looking at how weak her knees were when she is resting against the speaker it's clear. She wouldn't think to feign weak in the knees at that moment. I'm getting seriously angry at the PD now since I don't expect better from Ohio.
... I'd expect a 1 year suspension for striking a woman. My guess is he'll get a 1-2 game suspension. Without video evidence, OSU would make him wear two wrist bands. We'll see what happens. I'd be shocked if it's anything more than 1-2 games.
I would accept 2 games as long as Urbs refrains from praising the punishment while handing it down.
After trolling 11W the comment that sums up ALL of Ohio fans:
he will get at least 2 games!! When it comes to hitting and abusing women, Meyer dont mess around!!
Oh man, hit a girl and Meyer is going to come DOWN on you! You'll have to sit out the Buffalo game AND the San Diego State game! /facepalm
What a dumb douche bag. What a mighty, MAN he is, Carlos; he should be proud. Also, what a bunch of jackasses in that bar, standing against the wall.
I have to admit I checked out 11 warriors responses to this and that fan base is disgusting. I'm sure they have their good guys too but all I see is concern over football games. Sick
Man, I've watched so much CCTV footage in my day (as a former hospitality guy). Always hated it. It never clearly showed what you want to see, but gives you a general idea.
My takeaways...He stepped back toward her to give her a smack...and then ran off. While not the beating initially reported, it's still a battery. Even if he were a regular Joe, I don't know if charges would be pressed until the victim demanded. Nonetheless, expect a one-game suspension.
You can hear Urban now, "While we are pleased that CPD has decided no charges are proper in this incident, we do not like the way that Carlos conducted himself. We expect more from our young men and any violence against women shall not be tolerated. As such, we will suspend him for our season opener against the vaunted University of Buffalo Bulls."
The level of denial and delusion from OSU fans is just unbelievable. I guess when you have so few moral standards to begin with, it isn't that difficult to lose the rest in allegiance to a sports team. Pathetic.
1. That looked like far more than a slap. 2. He was pointing his finger right in her face just prior to her attempting to slap him. 3. He had to lean in to make contact.
Yep, pretty much a punk in my my book. That slap wouldn't fly here in SW Michigan. He would have got his ass beat by about 5 dudes.
It's really worse than all that. He invites himself up there, you see no motion from her inviting him. Granted we can't hear what she says but we can watch her actions. She moves as far back as she physically can until she is completely out of room. He ADVANCES up into her space into her ear. When a conversation clearly isn't going well that alone is an aggressive act. Things escalate and he sticks his finger in her face, every one of us knows that is an aggressive act. She only then RESPONDS with aggression in the form of a slap. He then turns around, ADVANCES and strikes her. People can down play it all they want calling it a slap since we can't see the contact. But 2 things are clear
1)she was hurt
2)he showed aggression long before he struck her
That being said Urb has a policy that he thought so highly of that he painted it on a wall. He can set an example or pussy foot around. Example set would be to allow him to play all season, but no Michigan game or Championship Game or Bowl Game. 2 games against MAC schools don't cut it. If you do that then paint that wall Urb
Having worked security at horrible night clubs in my less fruitful years, I've probably seen this same incident play out about 5000 times. Hyde and the girl both acted like immature youths at a night club, mood altered by alcohol. She should not have slapped at him, and he should not have slapped back. I would think Hyde deserves some sort of punishment by their coaching staff, but police would not waste time with an issue like this at any club I worked at. It's not excuseable to strike at someone, but people acting like a real violent crime was committed here or, "THIS WOULD NEVER HAPPEN IN SW MICHIGAN" sound like a bunch of neck beards who haven't left mom's basement much. And this certainly didn't deserve the media attention it has received.
probably should judge cases of violence against women?
Also, if you can't see why this received so much media attention, you must be completely tone deaf about the context....Urban Meyer's history of more than forty arrests of over 30 players at UF, four cases occuring among his Ohio players with a day or two...the curiously dropped charges against Brionte Dunn for drug offenses that his girlfiend on video said he "lied about"...the quick reinstatement of at least 3 other Ohio players...not to mention Urban's past lack of curiosity or punishment for assaults, like the one that busted a guy's ear drum...possibly even case where a guy was shot in the head... and by a guy now charged with (perhaps multiple) murders.
"So, you are saying essentially that a bouncer at a bar like you probably should judge cases of violence against women?"
No, the police should, and did in this case, and it's a rare day to see charges actually pressed unless there is some visible physical damage and we don't really have any evidence of that. No, he should have struck back at her, and no, she should not be held blameless for striking out at him in the first place.
I guess I don't care about Urban Meyer as much as everyone else on this board seems to. Trying to use case law regarding domestic violence below to justify why a prosecutor would move forward on this is so ignorant of the realities of law enforcement and the justice system I can't see this going anywhere with you, though.
Yet, the police action clearly suggested that they would have proceeded if the victim had pressed charges. They waited for her to do so, then used her reluctance to justify not proceeding. Does anyone seriously believe that, if she had pressed charges, the police would have said the assault was trivial, then dropped it?
No, they placed the reponsibility for the charges clearly on her. Granted, that may be their usual procedure, but whether that should be their procedure is an issue worth discussing. If she pressed charges against a key FB player in Columbus, she clearly could be subject not only to social ostracism and the character assassination already occuring on the net but also to more serious intimidation and possibly even violence,. Many threats have been made against players that decommit from Ohio, announcers who criticize the team...and especially those who accuse the team of wrongdoing. Ohio boards were asking where they could get the address of someone who reported evidence against Terrelle Pryor; another said : "Snitches get stiches."
The woman that Hyde hit, originally told police she was assaulted, but did not know who the suspect was. But it is now clear both from the video and from multiple other witnesses that an assault occurred and who the suspect was..Also, there is precedent for relieving a victim of the responsibility of pursuing charges.
“Prosecutors in the past would routinely dismiss domestic assault cases upon the alleged victim's request. However, more recently, ..under a no-drop policy, the prosecutor will not dismiss (such cases, since the victim may) continue to be intimidated …taking the decision out of the hands of the alleged victim thereby affords him or her additional protection from further abuse and intimidation. (In such cases) …. the prosecutor (can) obtain additional evidence for admission at trial in place of the alleged victim's testimony.”
Nothing to see here and certainly don't want to hear the faux knights in shining armor babble.
Sorry guys, I know the last thing you want is another "Ohio" fan on this blog, but I saw some people say that this "reeked of hometown justice" or something of the like and I would just like to tell you boys that the reason the girl dropped the charges was because both she and Hyde would be charged with misdemeanor assault had the case gone to court. And since she had no desire to be charged with assault, she dropped the charges against Hyde. So please don't insult the CPD or the girl by insinuating that they were bought. FWIW the consencus on 11W is that since this is a first time thing for Hyde, and he struck/pushed second he should miss 2-4 games.
3 game suspension.
So we now know if you assault a woman and you're a starter 3 game suspension. If you have an alcohol offense and you're a bench guy you're gone. The circle is unbroken. And sickening. Anyone that watches that video and says she started it is a POS
