Imagine the unease in the Columbus PD right now..."we had this whole thing under control until this stupid reporter started digging into our shit. Someone send Urban a gift package so we can still have all-access passes to every home game.

Put on your tin foil hats everyone because here comes my conspiracy theory:

Hyde gets into an argument with this girl, begins to walk away, and is swung at.  This pisses him off, so he turns around and slaps her hard enough to show at least some damage on her face. The next day, she is identified and confronted by those invested in the OSU program and offered a sum of money to not only keep quiet, but quickly leave the area so as not to be seen by her friends or in public, thus hiding any bruising or swelling.  This is her "vacation."  Next, Urban suspends Hyde for public relations purposes, and meanwhile, the CPD reviews the surveillance. They conclude that although there was indeed a slap, declining to arrest is at least justifiable enough to not get them in trouble internally. Perhaps the video was "grainy," perhaps they rationalized a bogus self-defense claim. Who knows.  OSU gets word of the decision not to pursue charges, and word gets around the team that everything will be fine, hence Braxton's "hearing great news about Carlos' status with the team" comment to to the media.  Further, OSU encourages Mr. Robinson, a former reporter in Florida and an MSU graduate, to write that Hyde is in the clear. The same Mr. Robinson who once stated "we could write a million stories about the bullshit we know with individual players." It's the perfect plan - so simple, so inspired, yet so devious. Nobody, including the CPD, expects the video to get out.

But get out it does. The video is leaked to NBC4, possibly by a bar employee, and before media day, the OSU dept. gets word of this, as does the CPD.  This is why Urban states "I haven't heard the good news," backtracking on Braxton's previous statement (which could only have come from OSU coaches themselves), and also why the CPD is "upset" that Mindy got her hands on it.  Cover blown, story blown open, and the poop is speeding towards the fan.

Whoa, this is fun-- let me try Ohio is in full cover up mode. They have Robinson put out the bogus report. This upsets her police officer father, who has heard from his cop friends in Columbus exactly what is on the tape. He and the nbc4 reporter are friends. (They reportedly live in the same city.) He has his friend in Columbus PD show his friend the news reporter the video, and she does a special report from her home. Supporting Reasons: She implied the PD wanted her to see it to clear the air, while the PD is supposedly upset that she saw it. Why her, and why is she reporting from home on her day off? Her demeanor was almost vindictive, and she is reportedly a bucks fan. Let's hear more!

The first news story was an intentional attempt to pre-empt any subsequent unfavorable reports, which would have been far more newsworthy, and spread like wildfire had they appeared first.

Note that the favorable, but probably false, news of Hyde's innocence appeared almost immediately and simultaneously across all the major news sites.  Such simultaneity would occur if the Ohio PR department released the story directly to multiple sources.

By contrast, after the unfavorable NBC news story about Ohio--and Hyde--the news has been very slow to appear.  Already pre-empted, it then appears not to be the same fresh "news" but only a rebuttal of a prior news story.

If this is indeed Ohio's  PR strategy, it thus far has seemed to work. Cursory readers have not noted that the first story was from a secondary source of uncertain veracity who did not describe the video and insisted on anonymity.   They either did not hear the second story or realize that it was from a far more reliable,  primary source---a respected journalist who provided great detail about what she actually saw.

As a resident of this town, I have been subjected to many a broadcast by Mindy Drayer. She is, without a question, one of the biggest Bucknut slappies around these here parts. If she says that Hyde made contact with a person, girl or boy, you can flat book it. If it maybe happened, she would have said it didn't. At all. Per Urban's strict discipline guidelines, Hyde will be suspended until Ohio plays a game that matters. Then, and only then, will Carlos Hyde redeem himself in Urban's extraordinarily critical eyes. Just like that Patriot guy did. Just like that.

May be a slappie, but her report was obviously biased.  For example, she said "It appears Carlos Hyde says something derogatory."  How would she know that?  Purely speculation as it's not an audio tape.  Also said it looked like the girl didn't make contact with Hyde...if the girl missed I highly doubt Hyde would have turned around.

Do you always engage people like this when you may or may not feel bad about a situation? Why do you feel the need to convince us of your reality? You have plenty of people on Ohio websites who would readily agree with everything you say. My guess is you are unable to quell your dissonance, so you try convincing others of your ideal outcome to feel better. Everyone on this site is going to disagree with everything you say. If you honestly believe what you are posting, enjoy the piece of mind knowing you are right and go about your business.

1. the reporter has always been a big buckeye fan

2. from a tape, lip movements and facial expressions, you often can make out words being said or at least their tone

3. Hyde and his friends had been pointing at the victim, who was in close proximity, which is pretty inappropriate even without words and

4.  Not long after pointing at the victim and speaking to her for a few minutes, she tried to slap him.  When a girl tries to slap your face, most guys would not take it as a bodily threat but as a useful reminder that they're acting like  jerks.

5. The reporter does not say for sure if the girl made contact with her slap, as you claim in your bias argument.

6. Whether she did or did not make contact is irrelevant to Hyde's attack, since he was not defending himself but walked away and then came back to intentionally hit her without further provocation.  That clearly is an assault.

Urbz needs to ask himself is.....if this were my daughter that got slapped in the face (by a football player), how would it be handled??? Especially say if his daughter went to UM, MSU, or UF. I wonder if it would be looked upon differently. I know, as a health care worker, I always force myself to look at things in that perspective..."if this were my family member, how would I handle this...?"
It will be interesting to see how urbz handles this.

You just don't hit girls ever. Almost every dude has been slapped by a girl once for saying something stupid. Just walk away man. I'm not surprised their fan base is ok with this and praying Hyde plays since morals don't matter in Ohio.

The anonymous Yahoo source was the same B1G instant replay official that has been reviewing Michigan replays the last few years...

Do any of those replays ever go in our favor?

Note: I am not poking fun at what is definitely a terrible (alleged) act, I am merely discouraged by the ineptitude of people charged with making sure truth and justice prevail.
