900...Soon!
Aside from the gloomy tone to kick off the season, This is Still Michigan!
UM is 5 wins away from becoming the first team to ever reach the 900 mark. It will be years (at least 3-5) before another team reaches that milestone! This coupled with the highest winning percentage (aside from a football program that has only been in existence for 3 seasons...) is a tremendous feat.
"Leaders and Best" is quite appropriate; Best Win Record, Best Win Percentage, Best Stadium, Best NFL Quarterback & Defensive Back... And the List Goes on far enough to embarass infinity...
It's Still Great to Be a Michigan Wolverine!

That would be awesome! If only there were ANOTHER way!!!! Too bad the schedule wasn't arranged just right to accomodate that!

The schedule WAS arranged to have it happen that way.
We just forgot to beat Alabama!

If we had beat Bama and beat ND it would've happened against Purdue.

i am a risk averse lawyer type and do not want sparty to have the opportunity to keep it from us. they will use it against us in trash talk and to the extent it creates the risk of greater humiliation i do not want the risk i am fine with illinois being the victim.
I am not proud of this.

I don't disagree with your assessment. Personally, I would like the see the milestone set as soon as possible. The less time it takes, the better it is toward 1,000 wins.

While it will suck if M loses to ND, it would be bittersweet to get 900 against Sparty. I would, however, take a loss to ND if it meant we beat Sparty. I'm sure most people can handle losing to ND once in four years if it means a victory over Sparty. We can afford a loss to ND, but we can't afford a fifth loss in a row to Sparty, especially with the division title (and obviously the conference title) on the line. I'm sure there are some M fans who would rather beat ND, but I'm sorry, that is stupid. Sparty is much more important.

I don't think it will that big of a deal in the media. Win #800 wasn't. Win #1,000 might be.
September 5th, 2012 at 11:29 AM ^
If we had lost to ND each of the last 3 years then ND would have passed us for highest winning percentage.
September 5th, 2012 at 11:40 AM ^
Well if that is the case, at least going forward we will increase that win % under Hoke's leadership and leave ND in the rear view mirror for a long, long time or forever more preferrably.

I remember very little hoopla from the media when we got win #800 over Wisconsin in 2000. And that game was an ABC matchup between 2 ranked teams that came down to an exciting 4th quarter game winning TD (Henson to Terrell.)
Musberger and Danielson pointed out the milestone in the final seconds...
but I don't ever remember hearing anything else about it. The only people who seemed to care were stat gurus like me.
I suspect the media will be the same with whoever we beat for win #900.
But win #1,000 will get some pub, I'm sure.

Coincidentally enough I think it has your avatar too.

I was at the 2000 game against Wisconsin for the 800th win and I have tickets to Illinois. Considering that getting to two games in a year because of distance is a great year for me, it would be tremendous to be at the 900th victory too. It is destiny!

They are still very close to us in win%. They must lose and lose often.
