Shane Highlights from yesterday
Saw this over on ESPN's site and didn't see it posted anywhere here. Highlights from the Landshark's last game of the day. Wish they would have showed this one on TV.
im not that impressed with Hackenberg or the Swoops kid at qb. but im just some fool sitting on my couch so what do i know.
Swoops is more of a duel threat QB so I would expect him to perform a little worse than the more traditional QB's, but that's just me.
Hackenberg looks just as good as Shane out there, IMO. Swoopes on the other hand, looks completely out classed. He has no zip on the ball and poor accuracy. He's by far the #6 QB at this event.
I agree...If Hackenberg was our commitment, I would take some good things from his highlights. He attacks down the field really well (partially due to Treadwell). Shane looks really good in the 'pocket' and shows good accuracy when on the move to his left.
Agreed on Swoopes.
From what I've seen so far, I would probably rank the camp performances (not necessarily as college prospects) like this, although I think #2 and #3 are neck-and-neck:
1. Browne
2. Hackenberg
3. Morris
4. Ramsey
5. Bateman
6. Swoopes
EDIT: And now that I post that, it sounds like Hackenberg is throwing a bunch of picks...
Hackenberg is just really up and down. Great when on, but goes really cold as well. Morris and Browne have been steadier during the 7ON it seems.
To me, he and Shane will be the best two QBs in this class when it's all said and done. I think Browne is going to be your elite future #1 pick Andrew Luck type. I think Shane is going to be your just as notable, I won more even though you have better numbers, you have better NFL tools...but I'm a "winner", #2-10 pick type. Kind of like Matthew Stafford and Mark Sanchez in 2009.
As for Swoopes, he's got incredible raw talent, but he's going to have to play in a system that fits his skills. I think right now he looks like Terrelle Pryor or even Tim Tebow more than Vince Young (at Texas). With that said, VY didn't dominate early on in his college career.
I like Morris's game film more than Hackenberg's... I do think Browne is probably the top QB in the class, and as you said, this event doesn't fit Swoopes's skills. He's going to be a winner, but not because he puts up great passing stats.
At this point, no, I think Browne is the better QB.
At this point...no, I think Browne is your next "Manning/Stafford/Luck" level QB. A guy who's going to be highly rated out of HS, is mechanically ahead of the pack and going to be a very good NFL QB.
With that said, I don't think Morris is a slouch. I think he's the clear #2 QB in this class. But IMO, he is a clear #2 and not on Browne's level. The one thing that I love about Morris is his leadership skills. I think he could EASILY (and Swoopes could too) be the most winningest college QB from this class. I also think Morris is a NFL first round talent, just not a unquestioned #1 overall type talent.
Again, I think it could be Sanchez/Stafford part II. Only this time Sanchez plays more in college (Morris will likely start his RS Freshman or True Sophomore year).
Morris has all the tools, Browne is just more refined, IMO. I think the two are going to face each other at least once.
At the end of the day, when they leave college...I wouldn't be shocked if it was a Peyton Manning/Tom Brady (NFL career) debate. If you're a Brady fan, you're going to say Brady no matter what, if you like Peyton, you say Peyton is the better QB. Many people say Peyton is the better pure passer, Brady is the better leader.
I'm not comparing the two to two of the greatest QBs off all-time other than saying it wouldn't shock me if Michigan fans always stuck with Morris who ended up with something like 1 National Championship, 1 Rose Bowl, 1 BCS win and a top 15 pick, while USC fans always stuck with Browne who ended up with something like 2 Rose Bowls, the #1 overall pick and better passing #'s.
We'll see, but I think both schools should be VERY happy.
Hackenberg is a turnover machine.
So to sum up, Shane is a surgeon and Michigan NEEDS Treadwell.
Morris can sure fire it into tight spaces and OJ Howard is a monster.
Ricky Seals-Jones and Treadwell on one team seems unfair.
I wish Laquon Treadwell and Cam Burrows weren't on the same team. I would love to see highlights of Treadwell smoking him.
If you can wait a couple years, I have a pretty good feeling you'll get plenty to watch.
You can see Bailey smoking him on the double move at 3:46 of this video at least.

How many years have they had this 7 on 7 tournament?
This is only year two of The Opening.
Small-ish running back that looks very quick with shifty moves. Does a really nice job on the dump offs.
Taquan Mizzell
From their second game in pool play vs Alpha Talon (some Jake Butt highlights as well here):
Treadwell looks very impressive in this video. Good size and ability after the catch. In FredJacksonesque speak... "He looks like Braylon Edwards but with better hands".
Morris looks to have a west coast offense mind set. He didn't throw a ton of deep balls but he works pretty effectively underneath and in the mid range.
These are more like Laquon Treadwell highlights than Shane Morris highlights. Treadwell looks so good. Man would I love for him to Go Blue.
I do like how Shane doesn't try to force it like Hackenberg kid does. Morris checks down to the RB if nothing is there, even in 7v7.
IMO if Shane Morris has Laquon Treadwell and Ricky Seals-Jones or w/e his name is he would have been the top QB but as I have mentioned on another post, he got hosed on WR's. WR's like that could make me look good in 7on7's. Come on man!!!
