POLL: Do you like the "unretiring" of numbers?
I know there is a thread on the announcement of Ford, Oosterbaan and Kramer being honored with "legacy jerseys" rather than a retired number. It's summer, and half the front page starts with "OT:" so it's not like I'm bumping too much Michigan Football related stuff by creating this survey.
I do not want to hi-jack someone else's thread. Also, I feel those threads have some good discussion on "who's next?" and "who's going to wear the new legacy jerseys?"
With that said, and feel free to explain why, or just leave a simple "yes" or a simple "no" --- do you like that Michigan is unretiring numbers in favor of the new Legacy Jersey?
Note: Once this thread moves to the 2nd page, I'll tally up the results and share the MGoPoll for those interested.
but the un-retiring of numbers makes no sense to me.
If it is for a player that has already distinguished himself (say Denard) before his senior or even junior year, then why would the player want to switch? He has already distinguished himself, with his own number. What need would he have to then use, for example, Tom Harmon's number? None, he is his own man. And even if he does, and, say, wins the Heisman, then which number in the future is retired to honor this player? Lets face it, in the case of Denard, his sophmore season was incredible and put him on the map to say the least. It would be hard not ignor the first 3 seasons of his wearing 16.
Essentially, if someone has already earned the right to wear "ole 98" or 48 by his performance on the field with a different number, then why switch? And if he hasn't, then why award someone who has not yet materially distinguished himself on the field? What is the point of that? Hororing high school accolades and perhaps misplaced 5-star ratings?
I just don't get this. I prefer the patches by a million percent.
And not just because I get to vote against my least favorite people on MGoBlog, that's just a bonus.
No, no, 1000 times no.
And get off my lawn.
I oppose unretiring the rest but less strongly. Rather than a patch to recognize the number of former legends, I'd prefer a custom version of the jersey that reflects it. Patches are tacky.
No.
Isn't it possible to start a thread with an embedded poll?
yes, but i don't think we have that turned on for regular users.
