OT: Red Wings Open Thread (Plus potential NHL debut for Mr. Hunwick)
Fourth place is essential, and a win tonight would help solidify that. Pre-game show giving Hunwick a healthy amount of love, including speculation on his future with Columbus.
Hopefully the Wings take control and we get to see some glorious Hunwick action with the game in hand.
Red Wings at Columbus, NBCSports 7:30ET.
Also, anybody enjoying Oberon tonight? I've got four left plus some Summer Shandy, it's great being able to sit on the deck between periods drinking summer beer.
brad doesn't play with the same chip on his shoulder as he did in SJ -- but heck, neither does Bert anymore as well. nevertheless, Brad is still an asset to the Wings.
Kronwall leads the D with 14 goals and also has 21 assists.
That game 7 was a complete farce anyway. And one single turnover doesn't cost a game. Nearly infinite things figure into a win or loss. Kronwall is solid. Picking on the second best defenseman on the team is weird.
Yeah, last I checked, scoring was our biggest problem in games 6&7, not defense. He did make a couple costly mistakes, but giving up 2 goals isn't an insurmountable disadvantage.
Also Stuart leads the team in hits, and maybe he's not perfect, but do you really want Ericsson to have a bigger role? That idea scares me more.
Dammit, you're the beneficiary of an accidental click. I really meant flamebait.
I've never played hockey so I can't talk about it.
I negate him saying that, using my vote as a former hockey player.
Also, I probably shouldn't talk about science. You should use your vote as a scientist to disallow that.
It's like when someone says your name after you get jinxed and can't talk.
Abdelkader not keeping control of his stick, although it was accidental.
killed off. 2-1 at 15:20 to go in the second, even strength.
Another break, they score again.
4-1. WTF?!?!
No shit, he's a sieve. When do we get our goalies back?
I think 29 NHL GM's are surprised he's on a roster tonight. It took an incredibly odd series of events to get him to Columbus for this game, so hopefully we can rack up about ten goals real quick and then Hunwick has a good game in relief.
Thank god Conklin isn't signed for next year. Dude is done.
Goaltender interference, good call.
I honestly think we'd be lucky to take Nashville to a game 6 in the first round at this point of the season. This last month has been some of the most uninspired Red Wings hockey I've seen in a long while. Injuries aren't really an excuse anymore.
And 1 goal against the Chicago Express goalie?
You have no idea how bad I want to be wrong about this.
Still 4-1 early in the third.
Dammit, Quincey!
Minor boarding penalty. That would have been called differently if I was on the ice for a non-NHL level (although I have no idea what the NHL Standards of Play are for dangerous/reckless hits).
He was lucky not to get the checking from behind call, IMO.
Maybe if Columbus doesn't sign Hunwick the Wings can take him
Another accidental high stick, third or fourth of the game. Weird.
Kronwall!
LIFE FROM THE WINGS.
Only three more, boys. We can do it?
I'm Ron Burgandy?
OK, I'm actually surprised that wasn't waved off for Homer being in the crease.

I'm a Jackets fan now that Hunwick is there. He's my favorite Michigan Hockey player of all-time. Getting my Maize jersey lettered and numbered to be a Hunwick one and I am gonna frame it.
I also would like to get his pro one if he indeed does stay with CBJ. I rather him stay on here because he has a better shot to play compared to having to sit behind a goalie like Jimmy Howard in Detroit.
Plus not only is Hunwick a Jacket, Jack Johnson is too.

but OMG is Nash fast. I thought he was catching Quincey there, and I'll go out on a limb and say Quincey thought the same.

Dammit, the Wings better bring it on Friday night.

Save that anger for the playoffs, Jack Johnson. Oh wait, you're team is fucking horrible and you're pretty lackluster for the third pick in a draft.
Enjoy mediocrity, if your team can make it there.

Well that was painful to watch...Here's to beating the Preds on Friday!

Watch Hunwick pull the same magic for the jackets as he did here

Him and Jack Johnson are both going to turn their teams around...
