Stumbled Across Pic of Vacated Basketball banner
I was just surfing the wayback machine to see what I could find about the banners such as news releases and I found a picture of the vacated 1998 Big Ten Tournament Championship banner.
I could not find out the details on this picture given the wayback machine can only render so much data on old webpages, but I figured I'd post it since people (like me) had forgotten what it looked like. Also the fact that the only known surviving picture of the vacated banners on the web today is the infamous one of Greg McKinney taking down the 1992 Finalist banner.

Heres to raising a new one.
We had to vacate the colors as well.

I forgot about the fantastic quotes on the left side of the blog. I defintely think those should be brought back.
WOW, that archived mgoblog is a great, if a little weird, read. Stonum had just committed, Draymond had just decided to go to Sparty and so much more.
Troubling to hear that Mike Shaw is a Penn State lock.
It would have been nice to get Johnathan Baldwin wow. These are awesome to read.
for a "Reed Baker Rainmaker" shirt. There couldn't have been more than a dozen of those ever sold.
We should really vacate banner discussion, too.
That was when all our banners had a real "handmade" look to them. We upgraded in banner quality sometime in the last decade.
Here's another:
I prefer the classic look for banners. Forget inclusion of the ever-changing B1G logo.
I agree about the Big Ten logo. I wonder if we'll replace all our banners again now that the logo with the "11" is gone. (That logo seemed to jinx us. We won no Big Ten titles when it existed.)
They still have them in the Bentley museum up on north campus.
It's actually the Bentley Historical Library featuring athletic department archivist Greg Kinney that houses the banners.
Now for the million dollar question! Do you still think Roundtree will wear the #1 jersey before he leaves michigan?
Crisler is EMPTY. You'd think more fans would have come to the unfurling.
I wouldn't mind seeing the banners updated. I feel like they are so old and dated, similar to the way Crisler felt before the renovations. I am not a huge fan of blue banners either, white or maize, but preferrably white with blue lettering and maize and blue trim. White banner "pop" more than the blue banners that blend in with the dark upper bowl.
they should do it something like the hockey team does. I forget which championship gets which color, but it's like maize for the regular season conference title, white for the conerence tournament title and blue for the NCAA titles.
The tricky part of that is what you do with Final Fours. The hockey team just has one big banner listing all the years they've made the Frozen Four, but basketball doesn't have enough to do that, at least not yet.
Sad face =(
