Alamo Bowl Open Thread
In the spirit of creating these threads ridiculously early, I present to the MGoPublic the Valero Alamo Bowl Open Thread. Remember, gas is a few cents cheaper at the Valero station....in Canton.
Anyhow, it's Washington (7-5) versus RGIII and Baylor (9-3) in a Pac-12 / Big 12 matchup.
ESPN at 9 PM, immediately following the sudden fun that seriously is the Champs Sports Bowl.

I wish I was able to watch more of his games this year. Damn that was impressive,
December 29th, 2011 at 9:46 PM ^
Oh my.......
December 29th, 2011 at 9:47 PM ^
21-7 Baylor.
December 29th, 2011 at 9:47 PM ^
That's just dirty

December 29th, 2011 at 9:50 PM ^
At least ESPN is subliminally suggesting Go Blue every few minutes!
December 29th, 2011 at 9:52 PM ^
Andrew Luck is the next Jay Cutler, book it. If I had the oppurtunity to trade back and get RG3 with a few extra picks, I would damn sure do it.
December 29th, 2011 at 9:55 PM ^
Is it me or do both of these teams look a little undersized?
December 29th, 2011 at 9:58 PM ^
Baylor falls for the draw play and gives up the 1st down on 3rd and 9. sad face.
December 29th, 2011 at 10:01 PM ^
It's ok the faster UW scores the faster RG3 gets back on the field.
December 29th, 2011 at 10:00 PM ^
21-14 Baylor

Has it occurred to any of the folks complaining about the computers' love of the Big 12 this year that the computers might be right?
December 29th, 2011 at 10:06 PM ^
You do know Washington sucks? The Big 12 is hard to predict to be as unbiased as possible. How would they do against a decent defense considering no one in that league seems to play it at all? I think there are some dynamic offenses in the Big 12 for sure but I don't know if there are many great teams.
December 29th, 2011 at 10:51 PM ^
Both Big 12 teams so far have won, both have covered the spread. My sense is that the maligned programs (Massey, Sagarin predictor) are probably doing better than most of the entries in the pickem--the only convincing argument would be to out-predict them.
December 29th, 2011 at 10:57 PM ^
I would not rule out a Northwestern or an Iowa upset over one of these Big12 teams. Their match ups are favorable in almost every bowl game except KSU and Arkansas yet I believe they will finish around 500 for the bowl season.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:08 PM ^
The Oklahoma game's my 35, A&M my 33. Let's revisit this in a couple of days.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:14 PM ^
Northwestern loves covering yet still losing bowl games.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:19 PM ^
Northwestern is the one I am counting on. A healthy Persa could be enough to beat an over rated Aggies team.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:13 PM ^
Down 18.
Chickens, hatch. Counting. Something something.
December 29th, 2011 at 10:08 PM ^
Why, announcers? Why did you start talking about Tebow for no apparent reason?
December 29th, 2011 at 10:10 PM ^
Well he is the greatest college football player of all time
December 29th, 2011 at 10:13 PM ^
Plus Chris Spielman has absolutely no ulterior motive to inflate the accomplishments of Florida under Meyer.

Chris Spielman the linebacker = awesome

Wife's incessant yapping keeps the Speilman babble in the background in my cave. Not sure which one I would rather have.
December 29th, 2011 at 10:26 PM ^
Agreed. He even managed to take the double option that Neb used on UofM. And attributed it to what Urban will bring to Ohio

Chris Spielman =
December 29th, 2011 at 10:30 PM ^
That was impressive.
December 29th, 2011 at 10:35 PM ^
Alright. I'm really enjoying this game. Seriously, RGIII is amazing and Baylor is pretty good, but the fact that they won 9 games with that D really goes to show you that the Big 12 just doesn't like to play defense.
December 29th, 2011 at 10:48 PM ^
Indeed. Baylor gave up an average of 37 points a game this season. That's Greg Robinson bad.
Good for Baylor for having their best season in decades but they're getting a little too much respect, IMO. Beating a crappy Texas team lets them pass us in the polls despite having 3 losses (one of which they gave up 55 points to a 6-6 Texas A&M team).
They're a typical Big 12 team. All offense and no defense. If you're that kind of team anywhere else in the country, you're shrugged off. But having those qualities in the Big 12 is impressive to the media and computers for some reason.
December 29th, 2011 at 10:40 PM ^
Is there any doubt anymore that Big12 defenses are a complete and utter joke? IF Baylor could get 9 wins with this atrocious seive that they call a defense (GERG anyone?), that's a mark that your conference only plays on one side of the ball.
December 29th, 2011 at 10:41 PM ^
Only thing RG's got that 'Lace doesn't is a twin in Andre 2000

I want the Big 12 to lose all their games. I still don't understand why the computers love them so freaking much. Baffling that Texas can be unranked in both human polls, but then get ranked by the computers.
December 29th, 2011 at 10:56 PM ^
They didn't have any trouble covering the spread last night--could it be that the computers were closer to the truth than the humans?
Everybody here that's bitching about the computers should post a link to their pick'em entry. Let's see how you're doing.
December 29th, 2011 at 10:52 PM ^
This is the same Washington team that got blown out by a 9 loss Oregon State team last month.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:04 PM ^
That was their only loss to an unranked team though. They put up 38 on Nebraska; they've shown some offense this year, though the defense hasn't been good. Perfect opponent for Baylor--I'm sure the Alamo doesn't mind a MAC-style game.
If you're going to evaluate every team based on their worst game, pretty much everyone sucks. Which seems to be the tenor of a lot of the commentary in these parts lately.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:10 PM ^
Washington comes out swinging and connects on a TD pass for 50 yards or so.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:11 PM ^
Baylor can't handle all of the SEC SPEED.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:11 PM ^
Wow, that didn't take long, a minute into the 3rd and Washington hits paydirt.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:12 PM ^
.....a baylor sports junkie is feverishly preparing a radio rant involving HR Pufnstuf and the use of the word "PUCKER!!!"
December 29th, 2011 at 11:12 PM ^
Not a whole lot of defense in this game and you take a knee in the end zone? Shame!
December 29th, 2011 at 11:12 PM ^
Baylor is really good. We really did screw them out of a BCS game. sarcasm
December 29th, 2011 at 11:26 PM ^
For Kansas State about now?
TCU didn't exactly wrap themselves in glory either.

Lol this whole idea of "defense" is a sick joke.
