Also a good time to scope out Air Force for next year!
December 28th, 2011 at 4:24 PM ^
The AFA team we play next year will look a lot different than the squad that lines up today. Same schemes though.
December 28th, 2011 at 4:34 PM ^
I agree, nut I have never watched AFA play football and you can get a feel for how they play. Plus you can scope out the key players that are coming back.
December 28th, 2011 at 4:48 PM ^
Attending a game in the Springs is a very unique experience. I am looking forward to the clash next season!
December 28th, 2011 at 3:51 PM ^
or as poorly as the WMU v purdue game yesterday..
December 28th, 2011 at 3:54 PM ^
I wish I had cable in my office.
December 28th, 2011 at 5:08 PM ^
ESPN3 is how I'm watching it at work.
December 28th, 2011 at 4:31 PM ^
I was about to create this thread before I left work.
Call me crazy, but I chose Air Force in the pool. I have some faith in the smoldering remains of the Mountain West Conference.
For those that were looking for fewer errors and a power-running game....well....um....anyway....
EDIT: PAM WARD ALERT! Does Hawkins look like he would like to be anywhere except next to Pam Ward?
December 28th, 2011 at 4:31 PM ^
Well I'll definitely be muting this one.
December 28th, 2011 at 4:34 PM ^
Ohhh, dropped a TD on the offsides play.
December 28th, 2011 at 4:38 PM ^
Let's go Toledo! Adonis should have a great game
December 28th, 2011 at 4:46 PM ^
Can you get to the end zone with just laterals and run plays? If you're playing Air Force, the answer might be "yes", but Toledo strayed from the plan and started throwing to the receiver to the RIGHT of the QB.
EDIT: Was the infield fly rule in effect on that punt?
December 28th, 2011 at 4:43 PM ^
Everytime I see a commercial with Denard in it I get very excited. After seeing that Sugar Bowl commercial, I went from six to midnight.
December 28th, 2011 at 4:46 PM ^
I just had some bad flashbacks after that pooch punt.
December 28th, 2011 at 5:32 PM ^
EDIT: I like that the officiating is being done almost completely with non-verbal cues. Intergrating performance art into CFB officiating has been a mission of many.
DOUBLE EDIT: Pam Ward had said that AFA's special teams were all good. Excellent call, Pam. They tried very hard to keep up with Toledo's KR guy.
December 28th, 2011 at 5:01 PM ^
December 28th, 2011 at 5:15 PM ^
Good god, Dan Hawkins actually makes Pam Ward seem not as annoying as usual. And that's saying a lot
December 28th, 2011 at 5:36 PM ^
Also, Jeannine "Sweet Baby" Edwards as sideline reporter
December 28th, 2011 at 5:16 PM ^
We have now experienced three bowls in a row with run defense that would be just marginally better if the DBs would plank strategically so as to trip up the ball carrier.
December 28th, 2011 at 5:26 PM ^
a planking attempt a few minutes ago by Toledo.
December 28th, 2011 at 5:30 PM ^
Well just got home, doesn't look like I missed much! Wow!
December 28th, 2011 at 5:32 PM ^
Maction at its finest.
December 28th, 2011 at 5:33 PM ^
Wow, that's pretty bad news when both your starting DT's get laid out on the same play.
December 28th, 2011 at 5:33 PM ^
....that since Toledo has now seen no less than 13,000 FB dive plays, they would figure out how to give up less than five yards on any given one.
December 28th, 2011 at 5:43 PM ^
I must admit they are fun to watch though.
December 28th, 2011 at 6:20 PM ^
AFA's offense is very difficult to prepare for. A year ago they had like 350 rushing yards against a pretty good Oklahoma defense.
We should beat them next year, but I would not be surprised if the box score looks pretty bad for our defense.
December 28th, 2011 at 5:37 PM ^
It's Karma-geddon around here. I must've voted up LSAClassof2000 like 40 times on these bowl threads the last 2 days, lol.
December 28th, 2011 at 5:40 PM ^
....and ponies, all interlaced with some CFB knowledge.
December 28th, 2011 at 7:10 PM ^
December 28th, 2011 at 5:47 PM ^
Even though the talent is not top tier, this has been more fun to watch than Alabama-LSU. I love the triple option. It's like HS football with monsters.
December 28th, 2011 at 6:01 PM ^
Is GERG coaching both defenses? Also, Denard is going to have like 600 total yards against Air Force next year.
December 29th, 2011 at 1:44 AM ^
Air Force has struggled on Defense ever since Tim Deruyter left to be DC at A&M and now HC at Fresno St. Doubt anything radical will change this offseason to switch it up. That said, Air Force recruits a lot of Kovacsian type guys to play safety.and that may limit Denards big plays, I'd look for Fitz to have a big day though.
December 28th, 2011 at 6:02 PM ^
My bad.
December 28th, 2011 at 6:09 PM ^
This game has been made with the play in the secondary. Yes, I am serious...sadly.
END: 28-28 is your score at halftime. Over / under on fullback dives by Air Force in the second half? Who has a number?
December 28th, 2011 at 6:17 PM ^
There must be some good joke about the Department of Defense sponsoring a game with neither team playing a defense.
December 28th, 2011 at 6:30 PM ^
We'll see if they can not fall for the kitchen sink in the 2nd half.
December 28th, 2011 at 6:55 PM ^
Air Force's offensive line just....disappeared on that sack.
EDIT: In retrospect, a fullback dive on 3rd and 17 was looking awfully promising, but Air Force had to throw, and....TD Rockets.
DOUBLE EDIT: Air Force answers their QB Oh Noes with a shredding of Toledo's defense. 35-35 tie now.
December 28th, 2011 at 7:18 PM ^
Always sponsored by the same sponsor as the home bowl location sponsor? (AllState for both the Champ game and Sugar Bowl)
December 28th, 2011 at 7:23 PM ^
I just got home to start watching. After seeing all three academies play, I've got a recommendation--snap the ball on the first motion from the wingback. It'll blow everyone's mind.
December 28th, 2011 at 7:24 PM ^
Win a bowl game for legitimacy.
December 28th, 2011 at 7:25 PM ^
Screw that, win a game for my pick 'em pool.
December 28th, 2011 at 7:47 PM ^
AF is allergic to taking timeouts.
Edit: 2 pt try No Good, Toledo 42-41 under a minute.
December 28th, 2011 at 7:47 PM ^
OMG, what a gutsy call. This game bananas.
December 28th, 2011 at 7:48 PM ^
Derp.
December 28th, 2011 at 7:48 PM ^
I love going for two there. I don't love faking the extra point. Lining up probably gives them a better shot to gain two yards.
December 28th, 2011 at 7:50 PM ^
Yeah, I would rather have my starting QB make the play than the holder who in most cases is not the starting QB.
December 28th, 2011 at 7:51 PM ^
My thoughts exactly.
December 28th, 2011 at 7:49 PM ^
Time for the onside kick timeout dance.
