OT- NFL/Lions Open Thread
The board seems pretty slow today so I was hoping we could have an all encompassing NFL games thread. If not it can solely be devoted to Lions-Raiders at 4. Hopefully we pull out another win on our way to a playoff berth.
Right now the Chiefs are beating the undefeated Packers 6-0 in the third quarter. If GB loses this game, there is a pretty good chance they rest starters against the Lions in week 17.
Bears are beating Seattle 14-7, about to start the second half.
A certain heavily-covered game should be on CBS in most markets, starting at 4:15. Please discuss it in a reasonable way. No reason to bring up anything but on-field play. Please prove we can have nice things.
Who's watching football today?

In other news, the NFL continues to progress towards the NFFL: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d82526af5/printable/nfl-expected-to-discuss-expanding-ban-on-helmet-hits. "Launching"? That term will probably be used in the same manner as interstate commerce laws and the federal government... 90% of tackles involve some sort of "launch".

Edit: Double Post :(

Who thinks Tebow can pull it off? I don't, but that's what makes it so magical.
December 18th, 2011 at 6:57 PM ^
Gosh, I hope so. I don't think there is a more despised organization than the Patriots* and that ass they call a coach. It's like the Devil versus.... Tebow.
December 18th, 2011 at 7:01 PM ^
Fuck, man. Some Raiders player just basically hit our guy - helmet-on-helmet no less - like ten seconds after the whistle. This is why I'm pissed off about the reffing this year. You know they'd have flagged the Lions for that.
December 18th, 2011 at 7:02 PM ^
Hey Lions, here's a hint. They're probably running the ball. Our D-line only pass rushes.
December 18th, 2011 at 7:04 PM ^
Wow, Raider punt downed at the 1.
December 18th, 2011 at 7:05 PM ^
That's cause Logan has been fair-catching with nobody even close to him all year. I don't know what the hell his problem is.
December 18th, 2011 at 7:05 PM ^
Do we have a 99 yard touchdown drive in us? Because that's what we need
December 18th, 2011 at 7:06 PM ^
Not if they can't CATCH THE DAMN BALL!
December 18th, 2011 at 7:40 PM ^
This just became my favorite comment of the day. Yes. Yes we do.
December 18th, 2011 at 7:05 PM ^
Catching the goddamned football would do wonders for our offense.
December 18th, 2011 at 7:05 PM ^
Kevin Smith is no Jahvid Best.

Pats put the final nail in the coffin.

MEGATRON!
December 18th, 2011 at 7:15 PM ^
Megatron!
December 18th, 2011 at 7:15 PM ^
TD Lions!
December 18th, 2011 at 7:16 PM ^
Alright, we couldn't stop a FG at the end of the first half. Lets do it this time
December 18th, 2011 at 7:16 PM ^
Megatron!
December 18th, 2011 at 7:17 PM ^
Here's the problem. In this situation, Janikowski's range is about 70 yards. And no, I'm not exaggerating there.
December 18th, 2011 at 7:18 PM ^
Dang man, I'm speechless. Stafford just went all Tebow up in here and Megatron is incredible.
December 18th, 2011 at 7:18 PM ^
The kickoffs have been great all day. Instead of kicking it out of the back of the endzone which was the point of the rule change we kick it high to the one and get great coverage.
December 18th, 2011 at 7:19 PM ^
Tebow just ran backwards for 30 yards... Also, the Lions don't want to win...
December 18th, 2011 at 7:19 PM ^
Uh-oh.
December 18th, 2011 at 7:20 PM ^
Palmer should have thrown it.
December 18th, 2011 at 7:21 PM ^
Huge pass break up. They may not have two plays. Heavy sideline coverage.
December 18th, 2011 at 7:25 PM ^
Actually, if he had caught it, wouldn't time have run out?
December 18th, 2011 at 7:22 PM ^
Wowzah. This is a long FG attempt. Anyone else nervous
December 18th, 2011 at 8:20 PM ^
I thought for sure that if the Lions can't get a hand on it, he was going into the record books; if someone was going to kick one this long it was going to be him. I tell you what, even with somebody getting a hand on it he kicked it pretty good; it would of had the distance had he got it off.
December 18th, 2011 at 7:23 PM ^
I think we might have just stumbled into the playoffs.
December 18th, 2011 at 7:23 PM ^
Lions win. Playoffs essentially clinched. My take: we definitely aren't good enough to beat the Saints in the postseason without some luck. It's still nice to make it after going over a decade without.
December 18th, 2011 at 7:24 PM ^
Playoffs baby!!!!! I guarantee it
December 18th, 2011 at 7:25 PM ^
OH. MY. GOD. Man, what a win. All I could think of was "only the Lions could be the team to be the victim on both of the most recent record-breaking field goals in history." Whooooo.
Will be at Ford Field next week - Lions can clinch with a win and that place is gonna be on fire.
December 18th, 2011 at 7:27 PM ^
Forward down the field, a lions team that will not yield!
December 18th, 2011 at 7:34 PM ^
And when the blue and silver wave....stand and cheer the brave!
December 18th, 2011 at 7:45 PM ^
Rah. Rah, Rah
Go hard win the game, with honor you will keep your fame!
December 18th, 2011 at 7:55 PM ^
Down the field and gain, a LIONS VICTORY!!!
Gooooooooooooo LIONS!!
It's so dorky that we have a fight song for our NFL team but I love it.
December 18th, 2011 at 7:57 PM ^
It's just awful, but in the right situation it can be glorious. Thanks for playing along ha.
December 18th, 2011 at 7:28 PM ^
He has had some incredible wins in his short tenure.
December 18th, 2011 at 7:43 PM ^
a little window into Matt at work. He sounds like a good guy, saw some of that character today!
December 18th, 2011 at 9:44 PM ^
"I can throw the ball! I can throw the ball!" I find him incredibly adorable.
December 18th, 2011 at 7:31 PM ^
We now know there is at least one team that can out-penalty us...but we're in the playoffs for the 1st time in over a Decade, all is forgiven!
Edit: I know the playoffs aren't guaranteed just yet, but it's a pretty safe bet
December 18th, 2011 at 7:34 PM ^
I was so excited aobut the Lions win, I broke my glasses right across the bridge while cleaning them! Wow, what a way to get back into the game and into the lead! GO LIONS!!!
December 18th, 2011 at 7:50 PM ^
These Lions sure are exciting but also stressfull to watch. Very stressfull. That is all.
December 18th, 2011 at 7:51 PM ^
Lions for the ship
December 18th, 2011 at 7:55 PM ^
I have a feeling Schwartz and Harbaugh are going to get a second chance at that handshake in the Wild Card round.
December 18th, 2011 at 8:10 PM ^
I hope we get a second shot at the 9ers, means we make it to the second round.
December 18th, 2011 at 8:41 PM ^
Unless the Falcons upset the Saints in the Superdome next week, it's more likely the Saints get the bye.
December 18th, 2011 at 8:43 PM ^
You're counting on the Steelers to beat the 49er's then?
