Schutt to OSU

It's official, per Treiu twitter. Good pick up, but this is one of those times where we can actually say we didn't want him!

He was about to commit to ND, then they yanked his offer the day he was going to commit because they got a commitment from another prospect.  Then he committed to Penn State.  Then they found themselves in the middle of what is probably the worst scandal in college football history.

You would have behaved differently?

I wondered why you guys didn't take him. ND valued Sheldon Day higher and basically told Day that if you don't commit now Schutt will take your spot so Day pulled the trigger. The other DL spot was reserved for the 6'7" 300lb behemoth named Jarron Jones. I believe he asked to visit you guys but you said no probably because you thought you would get Obrien to. Then he tried to visit UF and they said no thanks so he settled with PSU. He is very overrated.

For this class, the staff decided they were only going to take one defensive tackle. They know the roster better than any of us, and I trust their judgement. They also moved away from Danny O'brien, for much the same reasons. I think a lot of the D-Line prospects in this class are very versatile, which could be a mirror into the kind of defense that Mattison and Hoke want to run in the future.

When I checked the Tommy Schutt commit on scout, I noticed he was not listed as a commit..

Anyone know anything about this?

EDIT: Now listed as a soft verbal, that is all

Not taking Schutt is all well and good, but I would really like to see 2 DT's in 2013. Taco Charleton a DE from Ohio has been rumored to be the top priority right now that we are showing a ton of love to as he grew up an OSU fan. Depending on how things go with Dunn we should expect that same love going in the direction of Ty Issac. I would think DT has to be a huge priority in the next class with some more O-lineman, and TE as those are the 3 biggest needs still left after this years monster class.

I am happy for Schutt.  He kind of got screwed by timing with ND, then Michigan (who got Pipkins, their highest rated DT, the weekend before), and then of course at Penn St.  He seemed like a good kid that was the second choice for a bunch of programs at DT.  Wish him the best at OSU.

Yes, and IIRC he was rebuffed from ND and Michigan in the span of a couple days.  Felt bad for the youngster.  His head must have been spinning after the PSU scandal.

I too wish him the best at tsio, except of course when he plays us.
