OT: Must be NBA time, because Greg Oden is out for the year already.
In what has become as much apart of the start of the season as high hopes, Greg Oden is doubtful to return to the court this year. Not since Bill Walton, has a big man suffered this many injuries in his career. Filed under "unanswered prayers", I bet the Celtics aren't too upset the ping pong balls didn't bounce in their favor. I was hoping he'd bust, his tsio nature and all, but I would never wish this kind of thing on any player.

Man, how was that #1 pick ever an honest debate?

are exceedingly rare. Also, I think Durant could barely bench 180 or something; some controversy about his upper body strength.
Just goes to show, you always go for the best player on the board (Jordan/Durant) over the position you're supposed to pick (Bowie/Oden).

1970: Geoff Petrie over HOFers Calvin Murphy and Tiny Archibald
1972: LaRue Martin over Bob McAdoo, Paul Westphal, and some doctor guy (psst, Julius Erving)
1976: Wally Walker over Adrian Dantley, Robert Parish, Alex English, and Dennis Johnson
1978: Round 1: Mychal Thompson over Larry Bird (to be fair, the Celtics took Bird even though he wasn't eligible to play until a year later) Round 2: Keith Herron over Mo Cheeks
1984: Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan, Same Perkins, Charles Barkley, and John Stockton (Hakeem Olajumon went #1)
2002: Qyntel Woods from NE Mississippi CC (no, I didn't make that up) over Carlos Boozer (who went in the 2nd round, btw)
2004: HS player Sebastian Telfair over Jameer Nelson
2007: Oden #1 over Durant
One could probably go through each NBA team and find similar gaffes, but it is interesting nonetheless.

coming out of Chicago with the Bowie pick.

I hate the NBA. That is all.

I think Portland must have cut a deal with the Great Deceiver to win their 1977 ring. First the demise of Walton, then Bowie, then the Jail Blazer era, then (and now) Oden, and now Roy.
Maybe God recognizes that Portland is such an awesome city to live in and the people would be too happy if they had a sweet basketball team to get any workin' or prayin' done?

In all fairness, Mychal Thompson wasn't a bad pick and had a pretty decent career. Naturally, his greatest success came with the Lakers and not Portland.

I feel bad for the guy.

I feel bad for the kid. Money isn't everything; imagine putting all this work into your career and never really being able to do what you love.
Also, was reminded by the article about Aldridge's heart condition. Something tells me Portland's team doctors are not top-shelf.

and landed in the nba his career has skidded into the depths only whale dung can be found.
Say what you want...but the kid was a BEAST in college. I for one am sorry to hear about these new developments.

Per DetNews the Pistons are buying out Rip Hamilton's contract for about $8M, and he's going to sign with the Bulls for 2 yrs, $10M.
