meh, I'm watching HGTV like a man
VINCE SPADEA!!!!! AINT A FRAID A YAH!!
C'MON!
i like how Wimbledon doesn't use tiebreakers in the 5th, so Federer has to break Roddick to win his 15th major.
I'm pretty sure that's true for all the Grand Slams, not just Wimbledon.
The US Open is the only Grand Slam that uses a fifth set tiebreaker.
D'oh! You're right - I blanked on that.
Awesome match! I'm glad to see Roddick playing well. Hopefully he can finish it up in the final set!
The crazy thing is that it's Federer relying on aces. He's got 36 of them.
Both are serving well.... this one could last a while.
Roddick needs to work on his return of serve, he's been struggling all tournament. On his side, his serve has been amazing and Federer hasn't been able to read it's placement a bit.
Yes he's broken Federer twice.
I didn't see those points, but he had to break him twice to win a set 6-3. I'm just going off of what i've seen (5th set and Murray match)
You are right, and I didn't mean that as a refutation.... I was trying to say that, despite his troubles with the return, he has broken Federer twice.
He just stares at the ball and doesn't move. Even when the serve just misses you see him leaning to go to the other side like it was an ace, frustrating.
uh, 6-3 can be one break or two breaks depending on who served first. In this case Roddick served first so it was only one break.
The other break was in the first set, I think.
if he breaks...
Mental Toughness
Definition: Mental toughness is having the natural or developed psychological edge that enables you to:
- Generally cope better than your opponents with the many demands (e.g., competition, training, lifestyle) that are placed on you as a performer
- Specifically, to be more consistent and better than your opponents in remaining determined, focused, confident, resilient, and in control under pressure (Jones et al, 2002)
Andy has never really been that guy I would guess he blows this in a matter of seconds...Go Andy...but your probably toast.
What time does the Boris Becker/Ivan Lendl match start?
Antonio Bass makes his next start for M.
Nice*
Not my preferred style of tennis- I prefer the long rallies that Nadal and Federer put on last year. But still, what a match!
For some reason it is disturbing for me to see someone write..."not my preferred style of tennis".
Just feels wrong.
I was thinking something along the same lines late in the 5th set. This match was epically long, but it was not epic. It lacked the dramatic long rallies and amazing plays out of nowhere. Most points were aces or short volleys with well placed shots. My thought is that neither competitor was "tired enough" due to the quick pace. If either had tired enough to slow their legs a bit, we might have seen them forcing great plays. Instead, we ended up with just one fully solid tennis match. Again, not epic but well played.
will it ever end?
yes it will
great game at 8-8. Fed got down 15-40 and came back to win it.
Ridiculous. 13-12 Federer.
Andy has really played excellent this tournament and it's great seeing him get this chance one more time, and he's going up against and playing toe-to-toe with the best.
Don't know how he hasn't shown mental toughness.
Second game in a row Federer gets to duece, but Andy comes right back. 13-13.
This is one for the ages... literally.
Hopefully Roddick wins. What a match.
And Roger wins.
Man, it pains me to even look at Roddick right now. It's a shame there had to be a loser.
I don't have it on tv...is Andy crying? I have to know...don't deny me this.
Federer is a tremendous tennis player. Great to see Pistol Pete Sampras there too! Great job, Andy. Great match, both men!!
Damn, what an effort by Andy. Everyone probably expected Federer to roll through the final, and Andy made him earn every single bit of it.
As if we needed any more proof that Federer is the greatest ever. Pushed to the absolute limit in what turns out to be his record setting 15th grand slam win, he perseveres when many others couldn't/wouldn't have. These matches don't come along too often, with Federer usually dominating opponents, however when they do, he always seems to be the man holding up the trophy (except on clay against Nadal).
i've already seen two Federer commercials. I like the one where he's pulling all his trophies onto the plane and refuses help doing so.
The NetJet commercial was much better than the NIKE commercial.
We needed more Bridget, dammit.
And Andy got a bit whiny when RF said he, too could come back from losing in the Finals.
He was a bit whiny, but at the same time I always think Federer's answers to interview questions are strange. Maybe it's a cultural thing.
You probably wouldn't be in highest spirits, either.
It was a weird remark by RF, to say that. At least I think so.
federer was the one being the dick, i loved andys responses. also, how much of a dueschenozzle is federer with the his the moniker of his initials everywhere? and the 15 on the back? cmon
disclaimer: i do hate federer already and love roddick, which might influence my feelings a little.
don't hate the player, hate the game. tiger woods must be a complete tool bag too.
That must really suck to play that good and the one time you get broken it costs you the championship
question is IMHO Sampras still had much better talent around him he had to beat at the time for his titles. Federer on the other hand hasn't really had anybody to challenge him the last 3 yrs with any consistensy except Nadal in about the last yr.
I give Federer the nod over Sampras for the fact that he achieved the career Grand Slam. Sampras was incredible on hard/grass, but never a factor on clay.
I'm not the best to answer this since I was pretty young when Pete was starting his domination, but the fact that Federer has dominated the competition except for Nadal recently gives him the edge in my opinion. Also that it looks like he'll add at least a few more titles to his pile by the time he's done.
What a great match, I thought that fifth set was going to go forever.
