Your avatar is glorious.

The Ball State guy? I went into a coma in 2007 and just woke up...did I miss something?

just this

Was Coach Hoke the coach at Ball State when they refused to play Bosie State in the bowl game a couple years back?
September 25th, 2011 at 3:01 AM ^
Ball State did what other teams have also done, declined playing Boise on their home blue turf in a bowl game. Travel distance/expense was probably also a factor for a MAC school and its fans, not to mention Ball State getting dump-trucked by Buffalo in the MAC title game anyway. Getting blasted in an away game with none of your fans in the stands isn't a great way to spend bowl season.

Not a fan of that.

Idaho isn't the warmest place to spend your Christmas vacation.

your gloating is a little premature? It's only 4 games into his regime, and he's not coached a Big Ten game, yet.
That said, so far the results are promising.

Let's party!
September 25th, 2011 at 2:32 AM ^
After turning around two shit programs, Brady deserves to start off 4-0.
September 25th, 2011 at 2:55 AM ^
Turned around. Ball State went back into mediocrity once Hoke left, and the jury will stay out for how long SDSU stays afloat without Hokester and co. there.
September 25th, 2011 at 3:19 AM ^
I think Hoke has changed the tide on the rivalry. Hell people in Ohio are starting to believe him. Never in a million years I would have thought that. Selling Michigan jerseys is a good start.
September 25th, 2011 at 7:12 AM ^
Coach Hoke will be 100 games over by the time he leaves.
September 25th, 2011 at 8:48 AM ^
.....but I do think that Hoke has changed the tide on the rivalry.
September 25th, 2011 at 1:13 PM ^
Tressell helped too.

The fact that Hoke is working out very well so far is all to Hoke's credit, but those who criticized the hire at the time were right to do so. The hire working out great and the hire deserving criticism at the time it happened are two totally separate issues.
When the Ohio job comes up this year, I guarantee that you will see a lot of big names on the candidate list. Same with the UGA job. The Michigan job should be held in as much esteem as any other job in the country. The fact that it wasn't is squarely on David Brandon's shoulders.
David Brandon is extremely lucky that Brady Hoke has turned out to be such a high-quality coach. So are we. So is the program. But it doesn't mean Brandon didn't deserve criticism when the hire was made. Brady Hoke might get serious consideration for Coach of the Year if the season continues to go well. And all of the credit goes to Hoke and his staff.
Ultimately, though, David Brandon stepped in shit and could end up smelling like the Rose Bowl. That's good enough for me, but I am giving the credit to those who actually deserve it.

This is all wrong
September 25th, 2011 at 3:40 PM ^
Than admitting he was wrong.
September 25th, 2011 at 9:33 AM ^
Probably will get consideration for coach of the year. He was coach of the year in his last 2 conferences.

When Bo was hired, Ann Arbor had papers.

It seems as if you are trying to scrap results-based evaluation. Beyond a bunch of guys on the internet getting their panties in a bundle, does anything other than results really matter?
September 25th, 2011 at 10:05 AM ^
Who will be the favorite for the job. Is Urban really the probable? Does anyone fear Meyer?
I am almost to the point of saying "Bring It on" with the way Our recruiting is going,
But I am hesitant until we see those classes sign and develop..

He'll get the job and that is scary
September 25th, 2011 at 10:51 AM ^
Do we really know how many big noames will be choices for OSU's coaching position? Last time they were hiring a new coach they were stuck with option #5 I believe. He worked out well but the big names weren't exactly lining up for the job. Same thing has happened with the last 2 Michigan coaching searches. The only people who are saying it could be Meyer or Gruden are Buckeyes, we'll see at the end of the season just how delusional their fanbase is.

Honestly, I think Hoke has changed the tide on the rivalry. Hell people in Ohio are starting to believe him. Never in a million years I would have thought that. Selling Michigan jerseys is a good start.

Obviously the 51-50 record isn't set in stone. It's also very mediocre. My point is that his record did not matter then and it doesn't really matter now. Success is what matters. From both him and Dave Brandon. On and off the field.
September 25th, 2011 at 1:48 PM ^
Doesn't mean very much, but still something nice to see. For instance, his rebuilding years at Ball State clearly wrecked his record, but he has been fantastic in his last year there up to now and let's hope that momentum continues through the season.
I think he has a great chance to get another 5 wins this year so that record SHOULD keep improving down the line
September 25th, 2011 at 4:03 PM ^
he has been fantastic in his last year there up to now
This really is the point that I think Brian and others missed when they kept going on last winter about how 47-50 wasn't a good enough career record for a Michigan coach.
Since 2008, Hoke is 29-13. Go back another year and he's 36-19 over the last 4+ seasons. If his coaching career had only gone back that far, he'd have been an extremely hot commodity. It was the poor seasons from 2003-06, when he was first getting his feet wet as a head coach, that dragged his career record down. Given that he went straight from being a positional coach to a head coach, growing pains probably should have been expected. But by 2011, that wasn't very relevant anymore.
September 25th, 2011 at 3:27 PM ^
I'd rather wait until the end of the season when we're at least 9-4 before cracking open the champaigne on this stat. There's still a lot of season left.

Not just Hoke, but Michigan Football is also above .500 for our Home Games in the post-Lloyd Carr era! I figure we were 22-22 during the RR era, and with Hoke being 4-0 at home, we are +4 now! Yay to Home-Field-Advantage!! Now if Hoke can just get us back above .500 in conference play we will be all set! Let's Bash some Gophers this week!!
