TomVH: Bri'onte Dunn Update

Submitted by TomVH on

Ohio State commit Bri'onte Dunn was in Ann Arbor yesterday for the BBQ. I caught up with his father to talk about how it went and if it helped Michigan at all. Here's what he had to say.

He said it made him more comfortable and that he's liking [Michigan] more and more. Kyle Kalis and him talk to each other, too [Kalis was also at the BBQ]. The [Michigan] coaches told him that there's playing time there and that he could be the man.

As you can see by what he said this was a success for Michigan. It seems like they're chipping away and making more and more progress. With football starting up his dad doesn't think that he'll decide anything one way or the other any time soon. It's clear though that Michigan is doing an excellent job.

Sounds like a very promising update.  I agree that most likely, this is going to be a long-term process.  But, you have to love our coaching staff's tenacity and belief in going after the guy they want.  I'm convinced in regards to RB's, that there's no 2nd choice here for MIchigan.  Dunn is their man or no one.  Michigan will just need to be patient.  I understand fully why the Dunn's are being very methodical here and keeping things close to the vest (no, not THAT one!).

While this news is good, I have a feeling that he will just wait to see what happens with the OSU thing in a couple weeks and then make a decision soon after. This could also drag throughout the entire Autumn, too.

This staff is really showing their recruiting abilities.  I wish I was at the BBQ for the good food, speech from Hoke and the awesome video they showed.

I think we may have a better idea of Mr. Dunns' plans in about two weeks when ohio sits in front of the committee and finds out if they are going straight to heaven, hell, or to purgatory.  He's going to play no matter where he goes, he and every coach recruiting him knows that.  If ohio gets a post-season ban than we may be seeing a Hello: Bri'onte Dunn post before we play Waystern.  Although, how long does it take for a decision to be made after the hearing is completed, anyone know?  I know Michigan was just in their shoes but I honestly can't remember how long it took.  Sorry if that's a stupid question.

Sorry to thread jack but its not realy a jack because its about Dunn in a round about way. With five spots left I think that the following is what will happen . . .

Two DT's - Probably Pipkins and O'Brien

Two WR's - Probably Darboh and Madris

The last spot I think is a toss up between Dunn or Diamond and which wants to commit first. Diamond, who I think will stay in the BIG 10, seems as though he is less and less interested in joining the good guys as he is visiting Iowa today. You have to wonder how the coaches are handling this especially in light of how they handled the Wayne Morgan situation, and the way Sam Webb describes the Terry Richardson situation if he would decide to take visits(for those that dont know Webb says Mich would say no thanks to TR if he takes visits, ala RSJ saying he's good with no visits)

If Dunn says no and Diamond goes elswhere, then where do we go?? I would think we would really go after the RB Keith Marshall out of NC, and one of the two between Garnett and Banner. Try to swing for the fences and see what happens with the best talent available. What do you think happens with the final 5 spots???
