OT- Summer Thread: What Movie do you have to see to be a Man?
Deep throat
The Godfather Parts I & II
The Gladiator
The Bourne Series
12 Angry Men
The Blues Brothers
Apocalypse Now
etc.
instantly qualifies, and in this case you've got Henry Fonda, Lee J. Cobb, Martin Balsam E.G. Marshall, Jack Klugman, Ed Begley, Jack Warden, etc locked in one room the entire movie.
Even though it features the last honest osu qb, was sorry that he got hurt in the rose bowl that one year.
animal house
porkys
revenge of the nerds
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Maybe Cannibal Holocaust
Smokey and the Bandit.
second goodfellas. Fantastic movie.
Double Mobile App Post
Backdoor Sluts #9
...and of course, The Goonies
It was by far and away the best of Lord of the Rings movies.
Do you get "The Poonies"?
And extra credit for The Quiet Man.
Platoon
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Taxi Driver yet. That and Raging Bull and Mean Streets ooze manliness.
pretty much any Scorsese . . .
Also, The Town is pretty manly (much like The Departed). The Hurt Locker, too. Jeremy Renner is a badass
But I like Infernal Affairs better than the Departed. But along those lines and less controversial, The Killer and Hard Boiled. At least one Jackie Chan film back when he really used to hurt himself. And all the Bruce Lee movies.
The Deerhunter... and many of the above.
Also.. check out Apacalytpo if you haven't already. Not on the same level as many of the above but in terms of man-card worthy, it definitely is worth mentioning.
BUT without crying, then you are a man and yeah Rocky 4 - working out in the snow and in the barn with rocks - DRAGOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
Caddy Shack---you MUST know the lines for future conversations throughout the remainder of your male adult life
Cool Hand Luke
Debbie Does Dallas.
Stripes. Blazing Saddles. Holy Grail.
Without a doubt Old School!
The Hurt Locker
Glengarry Glen Ross
Millers Crossing
Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Kevin Spacey, Alec Baldwin, Ed Harris, Alan Arkin. The ass-kicking scene at the sales meeting sets the tone and is a classic
That shit (no pun intended) will put a prompt end to your childhood innocence.
Did anyone see when Brian showed that to Stewie on Family Guy? Hilarious . . .
TYVM, Dlash - classic scene . . .
I literally wasted half of last night watching the reaction vids on youtube. The old men and women reactions are priceless. I couldn't do that to my parents or grandparents. "Hey mom, come check this out...."
Scarface.
First you get the money, then you get the power, then you get the women.
BOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gangs of New York. How those guys could fight like that is beyond me.
Commando.
Predator. "Whats the matter Dillon? CIA got you pushing too many pencils?"
13th warrior
Die Hard, Bull Durham and Tin Cup.
Field of Dreams, Full Metal Jacket and Stripes.
Slapshot.
Brian's Song...did it just get misty in here?
Seriously though, watch Touchdown Timmy's 313 and Wolverine Historian's highlights of the 1997 defense. Those'll grow hair on your chest.
A Clockwork Orange.
Classic.
Full Metal Jacket
First, we need to break this shit down into several groups IMO.
1. Comedies: Bad Santa, Billy Madison, Big Leboski(Sp?)
2. Drama: Godfather, Pulp Fiction, the Fly
3. Action: T2, 300, Die Hard
4. Military: Full Metal Jacket, Platoon, Saving Private Ryan
There is no way that we can pick just one movie. IMO, A man must also see the Dirty Harry series(or anything that Clint Eastwood is in or directed), Rambo series, Rocky Series, the Predators, Aliens Series, Gladiator, The Matrix(1st one only).
I could go on and on with this topic. Thoughts?
of the rocky, predators, and matrix series(es?) are in and of themselves individual threads. Rocky I, II, and IV are on a different plane than the rest. Predators is an amazing movie, but predators II was awful. I'm really not a big fan of the wachowski's and their hit you over the head symbolism, but there are a lot of great action scenes in the first one. Nice thoughts.
Rocky I, III and IV.

And First Blood always amazes me that it's actually a pretty good MOVIE, as well as manly.

Braveheart
The Usual Suspects
Die Hard
Stand By Me...screw you guys that movie has no chicks in it and is awesome
Pulp Fiction

Also not a QT movie but I saw Machete the other day. Lindsay Lohan as a nun and Jessica Alba lookin good, movie was gory as hell it's awesome.
True Grit
