OT: Do you have a favorite Sparty?

Submitted by MGoSoftball on

In one of the softball threads we have been having a great discussion.  So I decided to bring it to its own thread.

The question is: who is your favorite Sparty?

Mine is Carol Hutchins.  She is probably in my all-time Top 5 favorite Michigan coaches.

My second favorite Sparty is my sister who has a BA and MSW from msu.  She teases me about our colors being "corn and blue".  Spoken from a true Sparty and all things agricultural.

Fellow Muskegon Big Red (although from a much earlier generation).

Was the starter in 12 of the 17 wins when the Dolphins went undefeated but Griese gets most of the recognition......

was a guy I always admired.  An amazing mulit-sport athlete; a kind of proto-Gibson.  A better football player than Gibson.  Not quite the glamour career in basebll, however.

George Webster might well be the best MSU football player I have ever seen.

Same here, although I'm biased since I'm from the same town and attended the same high school as him. He was really good friends with one if my friend's dad so I'd actually met Brad while at their house before.

Bobby Williams.  When he would get his face screwed up as if in pain when things didn't go his way it was hilarious.  I kept hoping the cameras would just follow his facial expressions the whole game.  Man, I miss that guy.

Current era...

Draymond Green.  He's got a solid scrappy game.  If he were a Michigan Man (and really Draymond, WTF, you should have been), we would all love him.

Actor, movies include: El Dorado, Brian's Song, The Godfather Pt 1 and 2, A Bridge Too Far, etc.

For how much it sucked for MSU to get them, I also kind of liked the Flintstones, mostly because I watched them all play when they were in high school, which seemed extremely cool at the time.

an email and told her this.  It was better she hear it from me than read it on MGo Blog.  I told her it was nothing personal, and that she was my second favorite Sparty.

She knows how much I love softball and M softball to boot so she took it in stride.

Although 15 minutes later my mom called just a bitchin'.  How could I pick blood as second best?  So I told her, "but mom, she went to Michgan State"

MSU for me. In the 80s the Showtime Lakers played inspired ball. I had moved back to the States after four years in Europe--to Boston of all places--and fell in love with the Lakers. Used to go down to a biker bar in Somerville to watch them play the Celtics, sit there quietly rooting the Lakers on. Must have had a death wish, in retrospect.

Now I can't stand the Lakers, Kobe, love the Celts.

My best friend from high school's boyfriend. How she managed to find and date an MSU fan in Albany NY is beyond me, but at least he's a Giants fan too so we normally just stick to that and hockey.

Besides the obvious like Gibby and Magic, another favorite is Anthony "Pig" Miller. He's from my hometown of Benton Harbor. My mom used to babysit him when he was kid, and he went to high school with my aunt, whom was a cheerleader when he was on the team. I remember when she introduced me to him after a game. He seemed like a giant to me. I rooted for him the as a Spartan, and later on as a Laker.

Probably one of my best friends.  He's always been a dedicated Sparty since we were kids, but he's still cool.  Lately we almost have a throwdown before the game, but it normally is worked out the following week haha
