We are in dangerous territory of becoming Northwestern in football, which is fine if we value our academic standards. But don’t get all upset when the football team loses. Unfortunately both can not be had.
What is the purpose of higher education? If it is to prepare people for their professions, then who cares if a 5 star recruit is taking online classes. OSU does a FAR better job at preparing their kids for their chosen profession in the NFL. As they said in the game, all 22 starters are almost locks to be NFL draft picks.
We are not going to compete with the likes of OSU in football until we realize this.
Washington would be interesting, they were supposed to have a better season this year as well. So I am sure the storyline would be 2 teams playing in a bowl that neither thought they would be at the beginning of the season.
I see all this whining about “we just need to pay players” like that is the only thing holding us back. Well there are 2 major issues with this logic.
1. We almost certainly do have players being paid. Look it up, Louis Martin Blazer testifies in federal court to paying college football players, Michigan was one of the schools he identified. As well as Penn State and Bama. Oddly OSU was not on the list. Which brings me to my next point.
2. OSU doesn’t have to pay kids “more” to win them over. During the game Klatt mentioned that most likely every starter for OSU on that day will be drafted in the NFL. That is what matters to major national recruits, “can you get me to the NFL?”. And for most of these kids being recruited now, they have seen OSU send FAR more players to the NFL, play on bigger national stages, and WIN those games.
We can all sit on our mythical high ground and say it is all about not paying enough, or our high academic standards, when the reality is, we are good but not great when it comes to football. I don’t see Harbaugh getting us to “Elite”, and maybe that is ok with some, but not for me.

Bama’s second string is better than our 1st string. Bama will win by at a minimum 14.
And if we are going to compare coaches, I believe Saban knows what he is doing.

Last year OSU had a heisman finalist. This year the Heisman winner is a transfer from OSU and they will have 1 or 2 finalist.
Next year, OSU will have the Heisman favorite.
This is why we are not even close to OSU
Georgia?! They lost to South Carolina at HOME. That team was overrated, just like the SEC was this year.
SEC is not the normal SEC this year. I would say the B1G was better from top to bottom this year

A good coach and scheme can work for a while. But OSU is so much more talented. It just wears out almost any other team.
I will take the jimmys and joes over the Xs and Os when it comes to college football
The con is they have 3 of the top 5 WR committed for this class. Including one that was the overall #1 prospect

One would think a MENSA member would be able to hire better coaches.
