But I have come to the conclusion that this is definately not Michigan of old. Meaning, we don;t really scare anyone anymore. With that said, the level of talent and ability we seem to have right now, unfortunately, is close to the levle of Indiana. I don;t like to admit that, but if you look at how the season is playing out(with how other teams have trounced Indy) it appears that I have to reevaluate my expectations. I have mentione din other posts, aside from the defense, RR is pretty much on pace with what he did at WVU. The real problem, is his style of fottball and the Big Ten. I am not sure if the propoer adjustments will be made in the next year or so, but after almost three years, I am starting to be doubtful. WHen you think about Mich in the Big East right now, they most likely would be in first! Now, this gets me excited, however, we are in,,,the Big Ten. That is where I get a bit deflated.
I do think we can win another game this year, and get bowl eligible, and maybe take our frustrations out on a team from another league...that is my hope
RR does not run a conservative offense, so he clearly plays a more high risk/high reward type of offense.
The comment your friend made is not nice, but yes, I agree, it is scary as hell watching Mich with the ball, cause they either really look awesome or they make a ton of mistakes.
The more conservative, smash mouth teams of the big ten tend to have less turnovers in general, cause they have a much lower risk type offense
Yes, it is extremely basic...but yet, that is exactly the problem we face. We cannot beat the better teams.
I compare this team very closely to the WVU team that RR had...the only difference, is we are playing much more difficult competition. Has RR reached his peak...I don't know...the next five weeks may do a great job letting us know
Yes, after reviewing this post, I think RR would do VERY well in the Big East with Mich. It gets me wondering, how well would WVU have doen in the Big Ten having been coached by RR? I seriously think they would have been slightly better than us(becasue WVU had a much better defense) however, I think they would be about 5-2 (just like us) with probable losses to MSU and Iowa.
The rest of the way, they could beat Penn State and Purdue, with losses to Illinois, Wisconsin and OSU.
7-5 with WVU
Mich will most likely finish 6-6 this year.
I really think RR is about as good as he was at WVU right now. Better defense good for 1-2 more wins
Defense this much? They have been suckin it up on defense for years. I sure hope we never get to the point where we expect to be bad on defense every year like those schools. That would be bad
Defense this much? They have been suckin it up on defense for years. I sure hope we never get to the point where we expect to be bad on defense every year like those schools. That would be bad
Are you an idiot. People are angry because there has been virtually no improvement in three years. It doesn;t take a rocket scientist to see that. Now many people continue to use the recruiting or the cupboard was bare or shit like that has an excuse, but every program faces the same challenges.
Now, I firmly support RR, but progress is very slow at best. Am I okay with this...probably not. But it is the reality. Noone really has the answer outside of getting some damn good recruits, and hope and pray this team can grow and develop.
You have to remember, this is the WORSE U of M defense in history. That is a pretty big thing to swallow. Give people some time.
I have been calling us the new Purdue of the big ten. It doesn;t feel good, but maybe the days of being an upper echelon team are over?
That we carved up the 4th best defense in the country. Give me a break. We were down 35-14 and Iowa pretty much went on cruise control.
This was sort of the same thing last year. Didn't we come back from afew touchdowns to almost beat Iowa? And weren;t they just as good defensivley last year? Don;t you get it...this is a pattern Mich has when playing better teams. They make mistakes and move the ball, but can never win it.
But folks like the darthvader guy will never listen to this. I have seen the same crap for three years, and I no longer state the obvious. This board does not want to acknowledge that this isn't working, and that rr has not taken care of the defensive side of the ball at all. It is easier to say we make mistakes when the competition gets better. Why don;t we make those mistakes against lesser temas. Because they are lesser! Anyone can figure that out.
Instead, they get frustrated that we shoot our selves in the foot, but of course they can see all our players becomign all americans in a fw more games.
Sorry, but it has been this way for three years now.....
But I can't seem to be able to start this thread. My apologies, but I have just coem across some serious bulletin board material for Mich. Can you believe this was said by an Iowas defender about Michs defense:
Michigan failed to tackle anyone in the broken field with any authority, even when MSU backs were carrying the arms and torsos of Michigan defenders. To paraphrase Tyler Sash, earlier this week, they "guard", they don't tackle. I suspect that is because they "guard" all spring and summer, when they are playing their own. It is the inverse of our O-Line having to compete with our D-Line in camp. Surviving against those monsters means that you have prepared against the best in the country. Surviving against Denard means that you never learn to hit, control the LOS, tackle, or intimidate. Basically, Michigan doesn't play defense. They are playing some other game that I haven't seen before. I don't know what it is. But it isn't major college football.
But I founf some serious bulletin board material for Mich. I would of started a seperate thread, but I don;t seem to have permission to post. I found this over on the Iowa blog regarding our defense:

I have to smile reading all these posts about how fristrated everyone is with the defense. We are the new Indiana! Don;t you get it? Do you think Indiana and Purdue spend countless hours shocked at their defense? Hell no! They totally expect it year in and year out. We are in a heated battle with these two teams for the cellar in the Big Ten. I am more concerned with the Purdue mathcup, because that will determine the season for us!
If we would of just executed like usual, we would have won. This sounds simple enouhg. Maybe MSU just had a better defense? I think that is the case. I dislike MSU, but I remember the same kind of thing happening last year. We fail to execute once we play better defenses.
Can we beat Iowa. Absolutely. Do I think we will. Proabbaly not.
I am hoping we can try out some new defenders and maybe get some expereince. Treat this more like a leanring opportunity since Iowa is freaking good. Then we will have a buy week. Penn State is shaping up to be our playoff game. The deciding factor for the season(on whetehr we get to a bowl). We need to treat that week like our national championship!
But look at the defenisve turn around at Illinois. They bring in a new D coordinator this year and it is night and day different. I know alot of people do not want to hear it, but I think alot of our struggles are coaching. There is definately youth, but they just do not look ready to play
What does that mean? negative points? Am I really getting blasted for speaking the truth? I am not a bad guy, I just am frustrated with the fact that there is no improvement in defense.
Give me a freakin break! Play defense. I am tired of excuses for not improving. Our recruits didn't pan out. How in Carr's 14 years did we not say this???? We have said it all three years RR has been here!!!!
I love it on here how people make excuses and then blast people who call it how they see it. NO IMPROVEMENT
Can anyone tell me why, after three years, our defense is so horrible, and we are not agressively recruiting linebackers and other defensive playmakers?
This is getting ridiculously frustrating. I know the cupboard was bare, but I don;t see us actively trying to fill it either. Does no one want to come to mich to play defense? Am I missing something?
His top ten....a trend I have been noticing is that alot of high profile prospects still include Mich in there final 5-10. We may not be alnding the prospects, but there is just so much respect for the Mich brand that they at least include us.
Okay, you are obviuously a very funny dude. I laugh at people like you because you enjoy riduculing people on this sight. No big deal, my feelings aren't hurt.
Just because I do not agree with most people on here, doesn't make either of the things you claim. I am a die hard Mich fan who just happens to call things how they are.
Basically, you must be a minor because you have no maturity or clue. Please refrain from using this site to bash others. If you do not have great insight, please use other online means(I am sure you have several other outlets) to bash people
However, I am not a sparty, since I care very little for Mich State. The only kind of wkr I will do with Mich State, is to be hired on as an "image" consultant, since the bulk of the head coaching job there has to do with keeping players out of prison and off the streets.
you idiot! I know noone said they would dominate. What I am trying to figure out is why THEY think they would dominate somewhere else.Right? They must think that if they are so quick to find a new school (at least JT did). I mean, what is WVU thinking. "Well, I know he is lazy, but we can fix that"
It would make more sense for both of them to just focus on school and give up football if they don't play for mich
Regarding Tate and and Denard...but do you rember Tates was named "the Weapon of Choice" after the Spring 2009 game? He was unstoppable. Here take a look:

was a reason we did not take him back then.

He is sorta immortalized after that long run against BG...and then followup touchdown.
I know I cannot expect that every time he touches the ball...but...for now, I sort do
Kellen Moore? If Denard kept playing cupcakes he would rack up even more yardage. This Boise State BS needs to end
SI Freshmen Safety of the year!
Time to panic!
Defense this much? They have been suckin it up on defense for years. I sure hope we never get to the point where we expect to be bad on defense every year like those schools. That would be bad

Seems like since we are dealing with depth, talent and inexpereince, we are not as good
When you have mistakes on both sides fo the ball, you will most likely be beaten

in seeing how bad OSU looked. We cannot expose OSU the same way Wisky did. COme on seriously.
ALrigth, I'll be honest, if Drob can get 200 plus rushing and 200 plus passing on OSU(which might be possible?), I will think that Mich is now legit!
If he gets all american at Colorado

Is if Pryor and half the OSU defense are out for the game.
I do think we will not get shut out though!
We definately have no problem putting up yardage, but usually we get outscored.

Sorry if I offended anyone
I never witnessed a three year period of defense this bad. Well, two years and three games..
I totally predict Cox will transfer. he isn't getting any playing time. It seems to be a trend lately.....
You know how many other idiots have made the same EXCUSES...yes EXCUSES you just made
I know all this stuff idiot........I want to know why they cannot even minutely improve.
I bet in five years we will have this same conversation if rcruits "do not pan out"
Yeah. My point exactly.
Give me a freakin break! Play defense. I am tired of excuses for not improving. Our recruits didn't pan out. How in Carr's 14 years did we not say this???? We have said it all three years RR has been here!!!!

Dee is playing both Mich and Auburn. I read an article where they claim that Dee has said Auburn is now in the lead. What gives here?
Can anyone tell me why, after three years, our defense is so horrible, and we are not agressively recruiting linebackers and other defensive playmakers?
This is getting ridiculously frustrating. I know the cupboard was bare, but I don;t see us actively trying to fill it either. Does no one want to come to mich to play defense? Am I missing something?
I am not sure what has been most impressive...his ability to hit (as indicated by ESPN), or the fact he gained so much weight(muscle weight I assume)
BTW as anyone seen a safety prospect come in and leave a lineman? Could thsi happen with Bell?
His top ten....a trend I have been noticing is that alot of high profile prospects still include Mich in there final 5-10. We may not be alnding the prospects, but there is just so much respect for the Mich brand that they at least include us.
Can't say that for other programs!
I just saw the Illinois game and Tate looked pretty bad there as well(maybe even worse)
What I need is Sept 4th to get here, so I can focus my energies on the team.
The team the team the team.
Okay, you are obviuously a very funny dude. I laugh at people like you because you enjoy riduculing people on this sight. No big deal, my feelings aren't hurt.

That I promise. I am a little hotheaded at times. Please accept my apologies should I say something intense in advance.
I like, millions of others, just want to see U of M get back to its rightful place in College Football.
I am a little impatient and impulsive, but mostly a good guy
I am sorry, I just don;t care about basketball. I mean, I want to, but we haven;t really been relevant since the Fab Five.
I prefer this post be football only-
Thanks!
to think I am a sparty. Hahaha. You good.
However, I am not a sparty, since I care very little for Mich State. The only kind of wkr I will do with Mich State, is to be hired on as an "image" consultant, since the bulk of the head coaching job there has to do with keeping players out of prison and off the streets.
Dantoni has a very difficult job in this alone!
you idiot! I know noone said they would dominate. What I am trying to figure out is why THEY think they would dominate somewhere else.Right? They must think that if they are so quick to find a new school (at least JT did). I mean, what is WVU thinking. "Well, I know he is lazy, but we can fix that"

Please finish your thought
If not, who cares
I'll be sure to check out this new ESPN station
BTW how many ESPN statiosn are there now? 50-70?
Why are we assuming Austin White will even go somewhere else to play. If he cannot hack it at Michigan, how is he going to cut it someplace else.
Same thing rearding JT. From what I hear, he was lazy. How the hell is this going to translate to success at WVU?
Please enlighten me......oh I know, they will transfer and suddenly dominate. Am I missing something?
Regarding Tate and and Denard...but do you rember Tates was named "the Weapon of Choice" after the Spring 2009 game? He was unstoppable. Here take a look:

We were sure we would have a ten win season.
What happened? Please help me to see that Denard is the second coming of Tate after the Spring 2010 game so I can believe this Fall will somehow be different
But my strategy is pretty clear this year: Talk as if Mich will have the woirse defense in CFB history and then be pleased when it doesn;t happen.
The last two years I have said they will be much better defensively and I was dissapointed.
But to hear that we are moving a slot (Grady) who was doiung very well to DB, just further confirms disaster
Breakout player of game: Tony Clemons, 6'4" 235 pounds, 4.3, athletic as hell!
