So this is my first and probably only board post on here. I've been waiting for a proper outlet to suggest this as it popped in my head about a week ago. I'm not computer savy and this may have been brought up somewhere else so I apologize if it has.
Anyway on to the content.
With Michigan going into this season with 3 somewhat viable options at starting Qb maybe they should take a different approach to things. We all know that Tate is talented but his ceiling isn't very high. He may have hit it already in fact but he still has great skills and can show great leadership at times. We've been hearing for weeks how Denard has progressed and should be taking the starting role this season. Follow that up with also hearing that Gardner is starting to come into his own and may truly be the future at the QB position. With all this information I think the coaches need to do one of 2 things.
Option 1: Stick to your guns and redshirt Gardner NO MATTER WHAT! Barring Michigan QB hating god showing his presence and taking out either Denard or Tate for any lengthy period of time there is really no reason to play Gardner regardless of how good he's shown he can be. The team does not need 3 QBs all in their second year or less with the program going into the future. I see RR going away from this move if he is desparate to save his job and tries everything to win.
Option 2: If you're not going to redshirt Gardner and are actually going to have him at QB some during the season then start making some other options available to get Denard on the field in other positions. I still think keeping him 100% at QB is a waste of his talents as he is clearly the most gifted athlete on the team. Tate is far capable of running the offense and if he were to split reps with Gardner then opposing defenses would have to respect both the QB position and wherever Denard lined up. This opens a large bag of tricks that can be employed and would greatly give the team other chances to win.
I don't see either of these happening and I see Denard taking the majority of the snaps with Tate doing the rest. Throw in a smattering of Gardner in there burning his redshirt. Then going into next season we see Tate probably put in his transfer as he will be relegated to 3rd string and the possibly new coach dealing with even more attrition.
In a perfect world I vote for option 1.
Begin the negbang as I'm sure this will entail.
