You're

You're incredibly annoying. And weirdly paternalistic.

The Badgers defeated Minnesota in a quarterfinal, rallied to beat Michigan State in a semifinal, and defeated Illinois in the final. However, because the game was played too late to be taken under consideration by theNCAA Tournament selection committee, the Badgers received a #6 seed.

sigh

sigh.

I can

I can seriously keep doing this all day, people.

Oh my

Oh my dear god.

There's a good chance that the game finishes after the brackets are finalized, which means it literally cannot be considered. This happens. Even if not, there's so many things to shuffle that it usually doesn't factor. They repeat this on essentially every broadcast of the Big Ten final game. It's not as easy as "contingency brackets!!!!!!!111!1"

Ugh

Ugh.

The Big Ten final is the very last game. The timing means it usually can't be considered while they rush to figure everything else out, if it even finishes before the brackets are sent in,

Here

Here. Replace "often" with "just about always," though.

"Even getting the Badgers in the final might not matter, as it could be too late in the day for the committee. It’s the last game before the bracket is put in place and, often, there are too many other moving parts (sites, conference matchups, potential rematches) to consider for the committee to wait for that result.

Good lord

Good lord - no. Still, no. The game tips off less than 3 hours before CBS announces the brackets live on TV. It is what it is. Have you seriously never heard this before? I thought it was common knowledge.

Yes

Yes, it is. Try and follow: the big ten championship game finishes too late to be considered by the committee. The game tips off 2.5 hours before the CBS selection show.

Just to

Just to reiterate: we ABSOLUTELY want MSU to win.

Tomorrow's result isn't considered by the committee, so if Wisconsin wins, they'll almost certainly stay ahead of us regardless of what happens tomorrow.

I think

I think most of you missed the premise of this post. The results of the Big Ten Championship game don't affect the bracket, because the picks are finalized before it ends. So "we need to win tomorrow" is not a valid response.

Click on the image button, it's on the far right of the top of the reply box.

Holy shit

Holy shit, who's watching the post-game?

Doug Gottlieb is giving a live, hands-on explaination of how it was the Spalding basketball and its lack of tackiness that forced the ball to slip from Craft's hands.

You can't make this shit up.

That

That was one of the best things I've ever seen.

Jeff Meyer

Jeff Meyer is responsible for inbounds plays.

I think I'm going to buy him a book on basic basketball sets and ship it to him. This isn't that hard.

There's

There's just nothing left to say about this defense.

When they aren't totally blowing rotations and forgoing closeouts, they're getting blown by like traffic cones.

We may always have this huge offense/defense gap with Beilein.

Sometimes

Sometimes I wonder if our guys just think about what's for dinner on defense.

Walton just leaving Scott alone for 3 for no discernable reason.

Oh

Oh my. 4 on Craft?

We won the ref lottery today - never seen a crew willing to whistle him for 4 fouls in the first 30 minutes.

Yeesh

For every incredible, inadvisable 3 Nik hits, he misses another one (or two). I love him, but his shot selection can be ... iffy

I think

I think Caris may have the best pro career of any Michigan player.

If he keeps improving, he'll leave after next year. He has the potential to be the total package.

Hm

Hm.

We, uh, need to work on some out of bounds plays, maybe.

What

What "got us there" was unsustainably hot 3 point shooting, mostly.

Ok

Ok, c'mon now. THJ was never a good defender. He was sort of passable at times last year, but that is the absolute zenith of THJ defense. He was certainly no better than Caris in terms of height, defense or ball handling, so I really don't see what you're on about here.

Sneaky

Sneaky underrated defensively? God, no. Not at all. That's totally a rosy recollection thing.

There

There are times when it feels like 98th is too high of an efficiency rank for our defense.

Watching OSU's 126th ranked offense shred it to sad little bits is one of those times.

In 2009

In 2010, that's a crazy pass rush.

These days ...

That may

That may have something to do with the fact that his degree says West Virginia.

Edit: He has a Michigan one too, I think. But for some reason I remember him more for finishing at WVU than starting at Michigan.

It has,

It has, but rarely ever by two different players from the same team. It's incredibly impressive to have the Big Ten player of the year two years running, but even moreso to have them be different guys (as opposed to one transcendent player winning it several times).

We're

We're just so lazy on defense.

Watching Florida play defense earlier today was like a revelation. For one, they actually care about doing it.

Maybe

Maybe if you randomly name-dropped some more with no context whatsoever, your requests would be fulfilled.

But I'm not sure, let me text my good buddy Denzel about it.

I think

I think that when the horn sounds, the crowd should all expose their genitals in Tom Crean's direction.

Well

Well the Maize Rage isn't allowed to pick a "scrub of the game" anymore on their info cards, because apparently that violates sportsmanship regulations.

Imagine how much something like this would hurt Indiana's feelings - how could you be so cruel?

Starting

Starting 4 guys who have never played together in defense, 3 of whom have almost no chance of starting when it matters, probably has something to do with that.

I think I think the Eagles might disagree with you there
Have Have you watched any Michigan basketball this season? You think he's on the cusp of Big Ten Player of the Year because he hits shots when he's left wide open? Come on. The only valid point you have is that he's not very thick, but that's not a huge deal for a guard who shots 45% from 3, is 6'6 and can create.
I would

I would be down for this trade: the AD can take away 2 football student seats for every 1 they add to the lower bowl in basketball. They'd actually make money off that, and it would even out the supply and demand a good amount.

Obviously not something that'll happen, but it would work.

Nope

Nope.

I live on South U, about a 90 second walk from East Hall. It takes me a solid 30-35 minutes to walk to the stadium depending on weather.

Uh

Uh, do you really think the majority of the student section is hardcore fans?

Half couldn't name more than a handful of players. That has ALWAYS been the case.

And I love calling kids who stay home to do work (the escuse I hear the most) "lazy," as if attending a football game in person is a greater responsiblity than school.

That's

That's not as big of an accomplishment as you might think. I know a kid who could barely crack the Northwestern rotation as a senior who plays professionally in Scotland.

The wages obviously vary based on talent, but most D1 players could at least get a contract for a shitty team in Europe.

I'll I'll also add markedly improved TV experience and annoying stadium policies as more issues in ticket holder non-attendance. It can be hard to roll out of bed hungover and trudge 40 minutes to the stadium for general admission when you could watch it on your couch on a high def flat screen, especially when the weather sucks. I go, but I know kids who have to be dragged along and would rather just watch at home.
It's not It's not complicated. The main thing is that we just aren't very good. More than ever, kids who aren't really hardcore football fans are willing to bail to get homework done. We just aren't the draw we used to be for you older dudes. Stupidly increasing prices (wanna guess how much Bama students pay per game versus us?) is why there's a drop in sales. Loss of mystique around the team is why ticket holders don't always show for worse games. And since our entire home slate next year is vulnerable to "welp, I should be studying instead," it's going to be bad.
They

They were both top 15 to start the season. They've dropped, but they came in with the idea of getting out in a year. It would be surprising if they actually stayed, wisdom of that aside.

Young and WCS are still projected solidly in the first round. Regardless of how you personally project their success, that's the reality. Calipari players projected as mid first round picks don't stick around, ever. Ever.

Wait

Wait. what?

They'll have at least 3 or 4 entries besides Randle. The Harrison twins, James Young and Cauley-Stein (and/or Dakari Johnson) are gone.

I don't think Cal has had fewer than 3 early entries in a year since he's been at UK.

So So he'd be cool if a black family adopted a white kid who became a quarterback? How does that even make sense?
That That is solidly better than Mario Manningham, so let's maybe tone down the gleeful superiority on this one
It's math

It's math. It often conflicts with what we observe, which is partially the point.

It's also predictive, not evaluative. It's supposed to show how teams stack up going forward, not how good they've been so far.

Hah You deleted it because it was total nonsense. You had no idea about the math you were doing and it was embarrassing for you.
My My inexpert read is that we'll one, perhaps two departures. Nik and his family have made his NBA aspirations clear, and Mitch and GR3 all but publicly stated this was their last year after they came back. Things haven't been great for the last two since then, but I'd be very surprised to see 3 guys who want the league all return, even if none are lottery picks. We've had an early entry just about every year recently, and only Burke was assured a high selection. I don't see that trend breaking, and I wouldn't get my hopes up for it if I were you.
Are

Are the dudes who negged me mad that I insinuated 17 year old football recruits don't watch 60 Minutes? I'm legitimately curious.

If

If our recruiting base was made up solely of people with grandchildren, this would be an excellent recruiting tool.

Since we want kids who don't vividly recall the Vietnam war, I'm thinking a 60 Minutes segment isn't going to help much.

oh god

oh god damn Adam Woodbury is just a hideous looking dude
