Don't know about Backus, but Long, Lewan, and Hutchinson all redshirted.

I generally agree, but can manage a worst case scenario with a couple of strip sacks and a defensive TD/short field counteracting a game that UM otherwise dominates.

And by particular concern, I mean concern in game that Fans are currently assuming as a win.

I'm skeptical about Poggi as a traditional fullback. I just think he might be too tall at 6'4 to get under the pads of a LB and root them out of the hole. Can anyone think of a successful fullback that's been that big?

There's a Greyhound from downtown Detroit to the bus station on William that costs about $10 each way. Amtrak's also an option (bit more expensive, but no traffic issues).

The latest is that the fight with the attendant started when he told them to use the bathroom and they instead peed on the wall of the gas station.

Yeah, that's, I believe, Reuben Jones blowing by Newsome in the clip. Not exactly a guy who's had a bunch of buzz to this point in his career and certainly not a clip that gives much confidence when you think about Vince Biegel or Sam Hubbard coming off the edge.
|1 week 4 days ago||While I think there's||
While I think there's something to the "project OLineman" idea, I think it's more of a "bloody-minded universe" thing. LTT was supposedly coming on and would have likely been the starter at LT this year had he not committed a really dumb crime. Fox's injury was one that normally heals up and just, for whatever reason, didn't. And the other player turned out to have some significant psychological issues.
If anything, the fall-off of oline recruiting in the late RR years meant that Hoke had to hit on an inordinately high number of Oline prospects and that they had to develop more quickly than normally expected.
|1 week 4 days ago||Yeah, that's a much better||
Yeah, that's a much better way of putting it than "a question mark." The lack of a truly elite back may limit the offense's potential. Much more of a potential ceiling than a glaring absence.

So, obviously just one practice, but there's definitely a "is this glass half full, or is it half empty" question in the Bredenson/Newsome comparison that Griffith implies.

I'm just saying that if you're hanging out with nearby fans at the tailgate and one group's likely to have Yuengling and the other Spotted Cow, it's reasonable to factor that into your choice.
And the reality of Penn State's reputation is that it's built on two decades of dominance against mediocre east coast schools that have never sniffed college football's elite. And during which time their holier than thou coach coddled a predator. When they got into a real conference, they've proved themselves to be a program that's one step above meh.
All hyperbole aside, for this year, it's about a wash between the two. Both teams have good to excellent running backs. Penn State has better receivers. Wisconsin's defense and oline will be better than Penn State's. And who knows what's going to happen with the new offense Penn State is putting in. I think Wisconsin's probably going to be the toughest home game UM faces, because they'll be tested and, if they manage to pull off upsets of either LSU or PSU, will have a good deal of confidence. Or they'll be beaten to hell. The OP should go to whichever one fits into their life more conveniently
|2 weeks 3 days ago||Of course, you won't know if||
Of course, you won't know if they beat Sparty and go to 3-1 until after UM plays Penn State (or, at best, just before kickoff of UM-PSU).
|2 weeks 3 days ago||On 1, it's hard to make the||
On 1, it's hard to make the case that PSU's been a better football school than Wisconsin since joining the conference.
3 Big Ten championships for PSU vs. 6 for Wisconsin.
7 10-win seasons for PSU vs. 9 for Wisconsin.
Both have had 4 seasons with losing records, but three of Wisconsin's came in the early 90s.
Wisconsin fans travel as well if not better than Penn State fans and they bring better beer with them.
Penn State probably has a bigger name, but it's a name built on dominating Temple, Maryland, and West Virginia more than 30 years ago. Since joining the conference, they've been, at best the 4th best program.

Bobby Henderson is a sneakily important player for this offense. He's the only fullback who has the squat frame (about 6'0, 250 lbs) that most inline fullbacks have (Kerridge was exactly that height and weight, Houma was about 6', 240). Both Poggi (6'4) and Hill (6'2) might be just a little too long to fill that role, not to mention that neither has ever carried the ball.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Championship or failure is a||
Championship or failure is a reasonable way to approach a season for a Michigan fan, given the program's recruiting status, facilities, history, and program aura. For an Indiana fan, cheering on a program where all those factors make winning a championship a once a half century affair, its just setting yourself up to be totally miserable all the time. So you develop other standards ... entertainment, "the big upset," and making a bowl game being some of the most prominent.
It's totally reasonable for people to be reasonable in their fandom.

|3 weeks 2 days ago||I agree that, right now, it's||
I agree that, right now, it's probably the 3rd or 4th most desireable game on the list above (which leaves off another couple possibilities ... Florida @ Tennessee and Wisconsin @ MSU). But there are good chance that Ole Miss has 2 losses (they play 'Bama the week before and open with FSU in Orlando) and Auburn has one (they open with Clemson at home) and are unranked.
Plus, Gameday would already have been at games featuring LSU, Wisconsin, and Tennessee (assuming they go to the UT/VaTech game). And it's really the only chance to go to a game at Michigan.
It's likely going to be Stanford/UCLA, particularly since a Pac-12 team won't feature in the first three locations, but if that game loses its luster, then there's a decent chance they choose UM-Penn State.
