Agreed.

It kills me to see young black (and otherwise) kids being greyshirted, risking injury, being undereducated and shuttled into easy majors, all for a school and fanbase that still plays Dixie, sometimes waves confederate flags, and cheers "the south will rise again." Not to mention the countless recent racial incidents.

College football allegiances

College football allegiances by county. Very interesting look at the the geographical boundaries of fandom. Someone with more points should repost this on the board. http://www.nytimes.com/upshot/

Agree with the sentiment

Agree with the sentiment about gameday traditions. It's a shame that Ole Miss' for so long included confederate flags (seen in the segment during footage of Archie Manning playing), "Dixie" as their unofficial fight song (the Confederacy's song during the Civil War), and a long history of anti-minority sentiment (riots in '62 when first black student enrolled). Can't think of Ole Miss without that crap bubbling into my head. Hey, that's a relative win for Michigan right!

Agreed, it's ridiculous. Hoke

Agreed, it's ridiculous. Hoke calls timeout nearly every week when Gardner's helmet pops off, but he neglects to do that this time? Fine, maybe he wants to save timeouts, but can't Bellomy execute a handoff (I had to chuckle when he couldn't find his helmet, so perhaps a handoff would have been difficult)? Between this player safety fiasco, the non-spread punting, the lack of a headset/involvement in the happenings of the game, the lack of responsibility taken for the struggles of the team, Hoke has evidenced his stubborn, narrow-minded ignorance far too frequently.

The coaches left Shane in for

The coaches left Shane in for one play after he was drilled. What exactly changed in their minds during that one extra play? Shane actually looked less wobbly during that last play. The only thing that makes sense is that the coaches realized they should have taken him out a play earlier.

Notice how...

his misses were only ever so slightly off, causing rim outs rather than hitting the back heel or front iron creating long rebounds.

how quickly and confidently he launched the next bomb after each miss.

Raindrops!

Let's get the second dynasty rollin

Gamertag: mrfoxdoc.  I'd set it up, but I'm swamped right now. Thx.

Agreed

We'd obviously all love to have him, but if he feels his career would be better served somewhere else, then who could fault him? Most around here will support him either way. I really feel for these players. They're not getting what they "signed up" for, and even though a cc is always a possibility, the prospect of transferring, sitting out a year, and adjusting to a new college isnt that great of an option. All the while, the coaches can change their minds, upsetting the stability of programs, without sitting out a year.

Let's see if Tressel gets conservative offensively and pisses this game away.

Google "bacon is good for me" and watch the video

Watching osu have success, on a day that I spent frantically refreshing mgoblog in only my boxers while hoping that either a case of beer or JH himself would rescue me from impending depression, is sickening. I'm getting "suckeyes" tattooed on my forehead.

DB better have an ace up his sleeve

I agree. If JH really was interested, he would have given DB a sign when the feelers went out. When he didn't do that, I wish DB would have come out in support of RR, to save the recruiting class etc. The problem is that the fan base would have crucified him for it. I don't think the fan base is going to be any warmer or fuzzier toward DB if we end up with Hoke than they would have been if he'd come out in support of RR a month ago.

A December decision...

Would not have been prudent. If in December DB openly supports RR, or fires him and hires Hoke, we would never have known whether JH was a possibility. I assume JH was not talking prior to the bowl game. Even though DB may look foolish if JH goes elsewhere, he had no choice but to wait this long, because the only possibility of getting JH involved waiting exactly this long.

Anybody want to reevaluate?

Given the reports about JH not being interested, and Hoke seeming most likely, anyone in the anti-RR crowd now interested in becoming a RR apologist, at least to see how the 4th year goes?

Hoke

Unfortunately, we are in no position to be choosy. If JH and Les Miles aren't interested in leaving their comfortable college situations for our hot seat position, then who are we left with? Can't believe we've cannibalized RR.

4-0

There's something so self-contained about a 40.  No matter how big or tolerant you are, you can be pretty sure that if you put in appropriate work on a 40, you will be feeling alright.

Props to the coaches

Our coaches deserve credit for continuing to recruit in the face of uncertainty.  If I'm DB, I endorse RR and make whatever defensive coaching changes ASAP.

Thanks

Mgoblue7, I appreciate you relinquishing Texas.  The U was gonna be my next choice, and I'm sure they'll be great for you.  Thanks.

What happened?

Hey Dirty D,

This is mrfoxdoc. What happened to the dynasty? Did you restart it or something? And now my team, Texas, has been picked up by someone else.  Would there be any way for me to get Texas back? Thanks.

protocol for games against other users

Hey all,

What's the protocol for playing games against other users?  I got a message fromLearned hands this past week through our xbox gamertags, and then responded multiple times and even left him/her my phone number without a response in the last 4 days.  We were then advanced to week 6, our game was simulated, and I "lost" 35-0.  Kinda sucky, especially since OU now has the inside track on the conference because of a computer simulation. Anyway, what have you all been doing to contact people to avoid situations like this? Also, Dirty D, do you think we could get like a one day warning before you advance to try to prevent situations like this from occurring?  I have no idea if this was the thought process, but if I were a higher rated team (which OU is), then it might make sense to just not respond and allow the game to be simulated, and take my chances that the computer will favor a more highly rated team. Yes, I know I take video games too seriously.

Texas vs oklahoma

Hey learned hands, we need to play asap. I left you some messages on your xbox account. Call me at 312 401 2009. Mrfoxdoc/utexas

DirtyD:

top 3: texas, usc, VT

i hope you end up having space.  let me know as i've already looked up the dynasty and can join asap.

Looks like the dynasty is

Looks like the dynasty is full huh?  If you need another, sign me up.  Gamertag: mrfoxdoc.  For anyone else setting up a dynasty, I'm down.

Harkes is pretty bad in comparison

It's as if he's trying to emulate his co-announcers, but because he's not as articulate as they are it comes off poorly.  He doesn't speak in anything close to complete sentences, just halting phrases with terrible structure (nouns coming long after they're due).  I can't stand how frequently he uses the words pace, unlucky, and opportunity, or the way he says "to the," which sounds more like tih-da.  But hey, he's probably the best ex-American player/commentator we've got.

Do we know if these announcers are even at the games?  They only seem to comment about things that are currently being shown on the screen, including fan shots, which makes me think they may be sitting somewhere watching the game on a monitor like the rest of us.

I find Matt Millen quite annoying as a broadcaster

I really dislike all the NFL broadcaster-speak he brings to the college game. He's always talking about guys with a "great motor" and guys that have "great vision." This seemingly endless use of generalities reminds me that he hasn't been calling the college game for very long, and thus doesn't have the best knowledge of its players. His college broadcasting makes me feel like I'm watching the mass-produced NFL, and that's annoying.

Same situation with Washington and USC

UW just beat SC, but is ranked well below the Trojans. It's a tricky proposition, to assume that because team A beats team B, team A is "better" than team B (and thus should be ranked higher), because it doesn't take into account a team's entire body of work nor does it fit well when a huge underdog pulls an upset. I'm sure this has been discussed ad nauseum before. FWIW I think BYU is highly overrated.
