Could Tom Izzo be on the hotseat? Sure, he's had some good years in the past, but a program like MSU expects more than a 1st round exit in the tourney. He can try to blame injuries, but let's be serious here, this is a team playing two walk ons in a big game. Where's the player development? No one on the team could stop dribble penetration, or get to the basket. Middle Tennessee State had better athletes than Michigan State. How does that happen? You can't win the title having Forbes and Harris lob up threes with no offensive gameplan besides that and dumping it in to the big awkward white guy.
16 years since they won a title, 7 years since they made a title game. At this point, that elite 8 and final 4 appearance are ancient history.
edit: Was really disappointed how soft they played too. All of those drives to the basket by a terrible free throw shooting team, and no one puts a body into someone? Soft coach, soft team.
They should go to the NIT and just start Rahkman, Dawkins, Robinson, Wagner, and Donnal or something
Get some experience and pray that those guys develop
Michigan fights their asses off to get back in the game, and then Zak Irvin launches a completely moronic hero ball 25 footer and then turns it over and gets beat down the court by a 5'10 white guy

Mid range jumpers are probably the worst shot in basketball. If their is any complaint it should be that they could drive more with Rahkman dishing off to Donnal. That's about their only good play this year
I'm watching Pistons/Knicks at the same time as this game. Trust me, the NBA can be just as garbage as college.
Unless you don't enjoy watching this out of shape fat guy on the Knicks fall down on a drive and then Steve Blake dribbles the ball off his foot, has it roll back towards said out of shape fat guy 10 feet, but Blake easily retrieves it because out of shape fat guy has barely staggered to his feet
With how bad Dawkins and Robinson are defensively, I wish they'd consider just putting a 2nd big man into the game at times when they're also not making any shots
People just have insane football level expectations. Let's be serious here, Crisler still sucks, and Michigan is not a basketball program. Unless you're Duke or UNC or Kentucky or you have Tom Izzo as your coach, you're going to have crappy years when you're a 2nd tier basketball program.

Without Beilein, Michigan hasn't had a really good season since 1992.
That's a literal 15 year gap before he took over and inherited Amaker's garbage. I seriously wonder if the people here who talk about Michigan being 'soft' and players not improving remember the Amaker teams, who were some of the worst examples of all time of that actually being the case.
Well, Chatman is a complete bust and Irvin is compared to what was expected of him.
Real 4/5* players are guys who go pro early because they dominate the college game. Irvin is a mediocre Big 10 player
What's soft about missing open shots and not being athletic enough to play defense? I see guys diving on the floor and fighting for rebounds, they're just good enough.

Again, he hit the bench as soon as he made a horrendous defensive play. Which is also why he doesn't play more, because he's really really really comically bad. To the point where Duncan Robinson is obviously an upgrade over him.
I actually enjoyed going to the National Title game, and the Elite 8 (final 4 if not for a fluke shot by Kentucky).
But I hope all the Beilein haters are excited about the Rich Rod and Hoke eras in Basketball
The simple fact is that until Beilein took over, this season was the absolute best you could hope for. Tommy Amaker would have had a similar record, lost in the first round of the tourney and that was it. That was the norm since the Fab 5, a good 20+ year span.
Now does this team suck? Yeah, they kind of do, but the only reason it seems like they suck so bad is that thanks to Beilein we actually got reminded of what a good team was like. If you want to fire him and turn into the new Minnesota or Rutgers then go for it.
You should be capable of being frustrated with this crappy team without going off the deep end, but I guess this is the same board that was comparing Harbaugh to Hoke for the entire Ohio State game thread.
edit: Big 10 tourney I mean of course, the team would never make the actual tourney.
That said Zak Irvin sucks.
Also to the people talking about how Wisconsin is supposed to be bad, uh they won 10 of their last 11 games including beating Iowa, Maryland, and Purdue, so yeah. Losing to them on the road is not a surprise in the slightest

I don't really get how people get down on Beilein's coaching, even with this medicore team they're in a position to win almost every game. Even the blowouts had a lot of dumb mistakes like this that turned them into blowouts.
The problem is just that he hasn't gotten good enough players the past few years. If this team had one Trey Burke or Nik Stauskus or even a GRIII they'd be a tourney lock and probably competing for the Big 10 Title.
Instead the go to ISO guy is freaking Zak Irvin
This team just misses way too many easy shots. You've had a wide open layup, a dunk, and three wide open threes all missed this half.
That's at least 7 points you have to have, 10 or 13 with the type of team Michigan is
Harvard is having a tough year, Tommy Amaker could be available for the right price. I mean for when Michigan fires the coach who went to a National Championship game and Elite 8 after taking over a complete garbage program who hadn't been to the tourney without vacating the result in like 20 years
It looks like having Dakich, Doyle, and Chatman on the floor might not be a good idea
It's kind of baffling to me that Dakich gets any PT. You can just put MAAR at PG and have Dawkins as a reserve guard. He can't defend any position, so I don't see why it matters whether he's a "SF" or "SG"
I do like the complaining about the offense when the last 5 years have been most of the best offenses in the history of the school. The problem this year is that the player's aren't good enough, not that Beilein forgot how to coach. recruiting recruiting recruiting
DJ Wilson didn't know where he was on the court and turned the ball over, got away with a travel on his basket, and gave up like 8 offensive rebounds in a row before they finally got lucky and got the ball. He also committed the same dumb foul Doyle did twice.
I agree that I'd rather see him playing that Doyle or Wagner at this point, but I'm not sure what he was doing that was overly impressive.
The re-emergence of non conference schedule Zak Irvin has sure come at a great time.
His horrible shooting motion really shows at times, it's honestly amazing that he's as effective as he is with it, just look at the guy trying to shoot free throws. It's like seeing Shaq out there. (I'd say Drummond, but I can't compare those two with a straight face)

I do want to comment that actually Grantland's wrestling stuff was real bad. Shoemaker lacked basic knowledge of WWE's product and had wildly inaccurate takes on how popular it is/the business behind it. It was pretty laughable analysis for anyone who knows anything about it. Of course, it's such a nerdy/embarrassing thing to know about that I assume most people were just content with anything remotely serious coverage wise.
From there it gets even less explicable. Sione Houma was wasted entirely on special teams, making 1.5 tackles.
Royce Jenkins-Stone was recruited for the SAM and was a raw obvious redshirt, yet there he is at the far left of the photo above, burning it against Alabama."
People blasted Hoke for these decisions because he often played physically unready players solely on special teams on losing teams.
This is a winning team and the guy was playing on offense, and is seemingly ready to play (and possibly compete for a starting job next year).
As a fan, I'd definitely prefer anyone who isn't a major contributor redshirt, but there's a big difference between a contributor not redshirting and dumb stuff like RJS playing a couple of snaps on special teams for no reason.
And they would have won the game despite the last play if he could make any throws. Playing within his limitations is nice and all, but his limitations make him a really bad QB.
If you swapped Cook and Rudock on these two teams, Michigan wins in a blowout, and they already beat Utah. They're a national championship favorite.
Sure it would be nice if the rest of the team could pick up the QB and win despite him being really bad, but they shouldn't have to. If Michigan had a talented player at the most important position on the field, they'd be 7-0 right now.
I'm not saying this is going mainstream anytime soon, but I've seen Dota 2 and League games with hundreds of thousands of spectators, which isn't bad compared to the NBA's tv ratings. (NBA is boring burn more than a serious comment, pls no one compare them)
