HumbleBrag/ThreadJack, sorry…

HumbleBrag/ThreadJack, sorry/notsorry:

Thank you for your time and efforts! There is a lot of work from behind the scenes at each event.

I got to watch my 11yo daughter play in the LLSWS Regional tourney last week in the 112 degree scorcher that was San Bernadino, CA.  We came down from Alaska and left the tourney with an 0-2 record, but it was the coolest experience ever to see my kiddo on TV (ESPN+).

Our girls felt so special when the media or PA got their names loud and correct for the world to hear.

When the media sheet asked, "What is your favorite meme?" My daughter responded with, "Crying Buckeye!"

Here she is making a running catch vs WA.

My thoughts as a 20 yr Alaska resident about to go into wintertime:  He's doing it right.

Not too bad. A couple more weekend trips should get enough for the freezer for winter. I have daughters at 11 and 8, so it's a lot of fun to watch their excitement when they catch something. My mom visited this spring and I sent her home with a bunch of halibut too.

I've lived in Juneau, AK since 2003. Having a boat is very helpful. Lots of halibut and salmon fishing all season.  It's nice to go out into a quiet spot and not have cell service or be bothered for a bit.

Torch Lake is an amazing place. I've got a few  places here in Alaska (still in the USA) that get my clean/clear vote though.

Juneau, Alaska

Pro:  It probably has better scenery than where you live.  (I grew up in MI, so i can compare)

Con: "Free shipping to entire USA! We love our customers!" (provides information and clicks on the submit order button) Oh wait,, not Alaska.... we don't even sell stuff to people from there.

Funny story:

There is a small town nearby called Hoonah.  They have a church group that comes to Juneau every month or so and collects donations.  They turn around and give/sell at a small retail shop in town.   I've donated some shirts etc quite a few times.  I happened to be over there last summer for a day and saw TWO of my old michigan t-shirts being worn there!

Me to wife: "Hey dear, check out this fella rocking the 1998 rose bowl tee."

nice

You'll most likely be flying into my town (Juneau) and jumping a float plane (Maize and Blue colored Alaska Seaplanes maybe?) to Angoon.  July should be plenty of daylight (not sunlight haha) and decent halibut fishing.  Keep an eye on salmon regulations.  They're restricting the amount of kings we're allow to catch until late june. After that, the regs will be re-evaluated.  Between commercial guys, sport fisherman, tourists, charter guys, etc.. they don't want to let the reproduction numbers get too low.

Bring your camera!  I _think_ you might have basic cell service there too. Voice/text, but probably no data.

From MI, Moved to AK

Once you go fishing in Alaska, fishing in Michigan is,,, pretty mellow.

Catching a big halibut or 30lb king salmon in the ocean is pretty amazing. Sitting in the boat with the lines out while watching whales, eagles, sea lions, etc is better therapy than anyone could ever pay for.

I know the great lakes can be dangerous, but the dangers around here are for real. One screw up or really poor luck and you're in the newspaper for bad reasons.

If you prefer to fish the rivers, stay alert because there's a good chance there might be something just around the corner that's higher on the food chain than you.  Our neighborhood just had a dog killed by a wolf this week (on a popular hiking trail)

I do miss saginaw bay and being able to jump out of the boat on a hot day and just swimming around...

Use only Callahan Auto

I can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking my head up a bull's ass, but I'd rather take a butcher's word for it.

I have my own list, but...

I met Sarah Palin at a Governor open house in Alaska once.  My dad was a fan and wanted her autograph.  I wrote up this little paper with my dads name on it that said, "Thank you for your support" or something and was going to have her sign it.

I got there early so I wouldn't have to stand in line very long. (I didn't want to be there anyway) It had been raining all day so I put this letter in a manila type envelope so it wouldn't get wet.

So here I am, the first guy in line, standing in the rain.  I have my rain jacket on and I have this envelope tucked inside to keep it dry.

They open the doors for the public and I say hello to the greeters and approach Palin.  As I step inside, I unzip my jacket and pull this stupid envelope out to have her sign this paper.  Right away 2 huge security guys jump right in front of me and push me back towards the door.  I'm like... wtf.

They ask me what's in the envelope.  I told them. They looked.  Sarah laughed and signed.

I wasn't aware until later, but there was something like 5 anthrax/cyanide type envelopes sent that day to the white house and other governors.

haha.. that was my post!

Update:  That lady was crazy as hell and got fired after a ton of personal drama from a soon to be ex-husband invading her work time.

Also: I did find the toner cartridge.

my first thought too

"Like warm apple pie"

heh

Nice to see another AK person here.   I think he'd cooperate in the search and rescue only to find you and rip your face off.

Well said.

The first time my wife and I went to the hospital to deliver a baby, we came home empty handed.  It hurt like hell and still does.   I'm sure they'll remember every second they had with him.

My youngest (1) was sick and throwing up all weekend.  At around 4am on Sunday, my wife and I were cleaning up another round of bed sheets for the washing machine and she mentioned how much it sucked and how she was tired.  I was tired too.   I sat there on the bedroom floor for a minute and thought about this story again, and how some parents would give anything to only have our "problem".

RIP Kiddo.

same feeling

Too much star treatment,,,

Officials have too much control over the game results now..

I kind of miss 80's and 90's NBA..

goooooooooo

blueeeee!

haha...

stole mine...

I was at the 2002 ass kicking (49-3)

UM goes 3 and out in the first posession.  Sparty marches down and kicks a field goal. One sparty fan stands up behind us screaming "It's gonna be like this ALL DAY folks." Every time UM scored after that 30+ people would yell "ALL DAY" back to him.  It wasn't a thriller, more like a fight you think should really be stopped,,, but,, not,,quite,,yet.

oooooh

Had to log in to +1 you.  Thank you.  Good pick.

It was designed by a 13 year old.

There is even a song to go with it.

Eight stars of gold on a field of blue -

Alaska's flag. May it mean to you

The blue of the sea, the evening sky,

The mountain lakes, and the flow'rs nearby;

The gold of the early sourdough's dreams,

The precious gold of the hills and streams;

The brilliant stars in the northern sky,

The "Bear" - the "Dipper" - and, shining high,

The great North Star with its steady light,

Over land and sea a beacon bright.

Alaska's flag - to Alaskans dear,

The simple flag of a last frontier.

Tommy's of Anchorage Alaska

They said, "Tommy’s regular cheeseburger could likely compete for best in a lot of other, bigger states as well."

Well Alaska IS the biggest state.  I kinda stopped reading after that.

Alaska is better known for seafood anway.

anyone

with a link for those on the go today?

But

Would you really want Jay Cutler as your QB?

yayayaya

gardner.. tough mofo.

Yeah,

Love this idea...  Throw some hockey headers in there and maybe a little baseball/softball for a few weeks too!

Well,

I heard there were some new pictures of Kate Upton floating around that you might work into the montage...

yay..

winner winner chicken dinner..

Anyone need help parking cars on gameday?

Pryor just got cut by the seahawks and might be available for the right price.

its just that.

The real deal.

well stated

Well put.

Mine was a one time thing though.  I said something that I dare not repeat I guess, mostly as a joke...  I came back to the site an hour later and had  - 20000000 something points.

I suppose I could make a new name and stuff and come back and build up points, but.. I don't want to be that guy.

here is how it works

You say one thing, even as a dumb joke, get piled on, and then they banish you for... forever I guess.

So make sure that anything you say falls in line with the way everyone else thinks here, and could never be interpreted as "some guy on the internet said something I don't like or didn't find funny in the same way he did" and you'll be a-ok.

agreed.

Good luck Nik.  At least Joe D won't be able to pass you up!

mine

is a 16 year old beagle that can hardly jump up on the couch anymore.

She's smart and patient, but won't really take risks anymore. (like wandering waaaay ahead of me on the trails)

so maybe she's like...   Coach Carr?

getting stronger at the right time of the year

I'm sure you guys have noted somewhere, but it really stuck out to me vs Minnesota how JB stuck with Spike down the stretch. Spike just makes the right decisions in the heat of the moment.  It's nice to see him have that kind of trust from the boss.

Hansel.

There's more to life than being really really REALLY ridiculously good looking.

to watch online?

whats a guy gotta do

to get like... 20 more points!

anyone with

any links to watch?

i used to agree

I played in a softball tourney in sitka alaska this year on their new field turf.  It was amazing.

Playing SS, every hop went where I was expecting it to (even when it rained) and when I slid on my belly to catch one, it felt awesome...

http://www.alaskadispatch.com/article/field-dreams-new-baseball-field-unveiled-southeast-alaska

Now,,, if a MLB team wanted to do it?  no thanks.. real dirt, real grass, real beer please.

I'm gonna go the other way on this..

1995 pigskin classic. It was probably 110 degrees in the north endzone and we stared into the sun the whole day. Amazing day, perfect ending, and a sunburn on only one side of my face that lasted a week.

Then... I think 2001 UM/Ohio. Sweatervest and his promise.. It rained on that one. It may have been just the loss though.

heh

I laughed watching espn the other day,,, some talking head was asked how Ohio was going to miss Hyde after being dismissed for hitting a woman...  His reponse, "They'll miss his PHYSICALITY."

I think it was Palmer or something...

can't wait

I was passing through ORD last weekend after the wings won game 2 to tie the series...  Wow,,, there were some seriously pissed chicago fans in the bar at the airport.  I can't imagine those same folks after the wings went up on monday night.

Go wings!
