1979 vs Indiana

Wangler to Carter on the last play of the game for the win! I was 11 years old and one of my older brothers was at UM. It turned out to be the only college game I attended with my dad as he died in the spring of 1980 at age 48.

An Irish guy

walks OUT of a bar.....

Hey it could happen!

A second?

I have noticed all year with many teams that when they send someone in motion or have players shifting they don't seem to get set for a full second. In fact in watching these bowl games it seems there have been times two players have been in motion at the same time at the time of the snap. I was just having this conversation during monday's games.

Yep, because

Beamer runs a fake punt so often it has become predicable. Everyone knew that was coming. I know there are always a number of plays you can point at in a close game - the reviewed catch obviously - but that fake punt was really a key play.

Jake Ryan. He really impressed me.

I haven't seen his stat line but it seemed like he was always around the ball. He caught the VT back from behind after a long gain with good hussle and the diving sack was great.

ND Fans!

Too funny. Every time they lose a game they pretend they are only allowed to recruit Irish Catholic valedictorians.

Also, it's been my experience that Catholic girls remove their panties at roughly the same rate as the rest of the population.

PSU out of B1G -

replaced with ND.

Sugar Bowl Uniforms?

That would make sense. Oregon did it yesterday.

Well a Lions SB

is the only championship I haven't seen. I always tell my wife that I will stop watching sports when it happens because my sports world will be complete. (I may have to change that to - I can now die happy.)

I've seen the Tigers, Red Wings and Pistons win championships. I've seen Michigan win it all in football, basketball and hockey.

But it really depends

on the program/field of study. MSU would be an excellent choice for elementary and secondary education for example.

I would have to root

for my kid if she was playing a sport against M. However, my daughter is not an athlete and is looking at the always lucrative (heavy sarcasm) Musical Theatre programs. She's only a Soph in HS so is still early in the process but is considering Michigan, WMU and Elon. She really wanted Northwestern and while she's at the top of her class - took the SAT in 7th grade and so on - she's won't get into NU.

Tough to argue with

your list - other than a few spots up or down. So would #1 play #16 and #2 play # 15 and so on? Using your rankings M would get Okie State! Yikes!

I guess I'm "old school".

I don't boo our opponents and don't allow my daughter to do so. They are just college kids.

No that would be

Steph infection. Totally different.

Here it is - mark it down.

Early L's to Bama and ND will have some panicked and jumping off the bandwagon.  They will rebound to win the B1G - beating Sparty by at least 3 TD's, beating Ohio by 3 in C-bus and by 10 in the B1G Championship. They will also win the Rose Bowl. Final record 11-3.

2015 They will beat RR - Arizona in the Rose Bowl.

Auto bid?

Is the auto bid really a big deal anymore? Now that we have a separate championship game rather than it alternating amongst the bowls - the BCS games seem to have lost some of their prestige. This year's Cotton Bowl is a better game/matchup than the Orange. The Cap One and Outback look to be as good.

These teams will never be ranked #1 or #2 so they won't be playing for the MNC.

Voting to end democracy?

That's like fighting for peace or F-ing for virginity.

Honey Badger don't care?

You just got the bones in your back leg snapped like twigs! I bet you care now!

Cold game in the 90's?

I'm surprised there isn't a game in the 90's in the coldest list. I was at a 28-0 win and it felt very very cold.

16 years already!

That one was very memorable for me as well because I watched it in a hospital room with my new baby girl. She and my wife both slept through most of it and I cheered really loud - inside my head. Tomorrow that baby girl turns sweet 16! Hard to believe. She's a fantastic kid and big M fan. (Her only flaw is that she wants to go to Northwestern.)

No repeat of the '10 game.

At least we won't be subjected to both teams going 60+ points in triple OT. Wind or no wind -rain or no rain - I feel good about this game. The illini look like they are regressing. This would be a decent road win and give us 8 wins with two game remaining. With a new caching staff and a (sort of) new system - I'll take that. In fact I would be pretty happy and excited with that.

I guess that would depend

on the motive for the murder. Even then if it was a random murder of someone he didn't know we would think it strange - but this is just sick.

I would think

a trial would answer a lot of these questions. Sandusky's testimony may shed light on the actions of some of the others.

Exactly right.

We are to believe that Joe didn't know? We are to believe all the circumstances of his retirement? Doesn't pass the smell test. Look at Sandusky's retirement banquet. JoPa shows up only in time to give a very uninspired speech and immediately leaves.

Also we are to believe that when McQuery tells JoPa of the incident in 2002 he doesn't tell him details AND Paterno doesn't ask for clarification? Even if you are able to buy all that he still should have gone to the police and followed up with the AD.

Then the grand jury report says victim 1 was brought to PSU facilities and even team practices in 2007. So what's the story there? They only told him not to take boys into the showers other parts of the athletic complex are fine? JoPa didn't know Sandusky was at practices with young boys?

None of this really passes the smell test.

That's the key.

2002 wasn't the first time this had come up with Sandusky. In fact there were some accusations before 1998. The '98 incident actually sparked and investigation and there is a police report. From the outside it looks like they let Sandusky retire with a "farewell tour" year in 1999 with knowledge of that incident/accusation.

And what about JoPa? Are we to believe that he didn't know of any of the previous accusations or the investigation about his DC?

1998 -1999

After reading this I had to wonder what that 1998 investigation and report revealed. What did JoPa know at that time? Did they let him serve one more year - taking his victory lap in 1999?

JoPa should be fired tomorrow.

PSU.

I also loved my visits to PSU. Great fans and great school with a rich football tradition.

None of that matters. The fact that they basically covered this up and didn't make sure this was reported to police is horrible. This is similar to the Catholic Church cover ups.

PSU fans.

PSU fans/alums should boycott the games. Stay home and see how the message of an almost empty stadium plays. Seriously Joe Pa should be gone now - this week.

They have obviously

made a point with him to continue to for the pass rather than run when nothing is open. You gotta let Denard be Denard. He could have scored there before half instead of trying to make a tough throw.

On designed run plays? Yes.

I'm talking about him continuing to look down field instead of running it on pass plays.

Let Denard be Denard!

I guess they want him to keep looking to pass but my goodness how many yards/scores could he have now by tucking and running?

I don't understand

the hate for Nickelback. Sure they are a horrible corporate rock 80's sounding garbage band but the radio is full of that crap.  I was at the game when it was Jesse McCartney! Wasn't it Kid Rock last year? Is there a dime's worth of difference between Kid Rock and Nickelback?

Which makes me

think of George Jones. And that's fine because I love me some George Jones!

Call it "First and Ten: Do it Again"

Really only want ND.

But then you need another team to balance out the divisions. Rutgers? I don't know. Doesn't seem like they bring much in terms of competitiveness in football or bball. Do they really have that big of a following? Do they bring in an all important TV market? Some teams in heavily populated areas don't really have a big following. If we did get ND I would like to see Kansas. Makes sense geographically now with Neb and they bring an elite bball program. But again TV markets? No, a couple hundred people live in Kansas.

760

760. Most of that from the good guys. I'm not sold on PU's offense despite their recent resemblance of an actual football team.

TacoPants

Have you seen these costumes with a fake torso and head up above the head of the wearer of the costume? Measure it out to be exactly 11 feet tall. Put a winged helmet on it.

Of course that would be a tailgate only costume because you couldn't wear it into the stadium.

$93.51

You had 967 points when you started this thread. 9.67 cents x 967 points = 9350.89 cents or $93.51 rounded to the nearest cent.

Tough question and an easy question.

It's all the things you say - an escape, a chance to belong to a group, a chance to live vicariously through others and seems to be inherent in so many of us.

But for me it has changed - a little - over the years. As I get older I find myself questioning why I am so emotionally invested in the wins and losses of Michigan, The Tigers, The Lions and Red Wings. I have no connection other than geography to those teams. I didn't play sports at Michigan.  Also, I have learned to appreciate the pagentry of sports and appreciate good play from other teams. I'll give you an example: A few years back I was at a night game at Spartan Stadium with a friend. They were playing Notre Dame and we had watched the Michigan game on TV earlier. The weather was awful - cold, windy and hard rain - and for some reason we loved it. Sparty had a big lead at the half and collapsed in the second half giving ND a win. I don't care about either team but was thrilled to be there and despite the weather and the free ticket never considered leaving. Well when ND was making their comeback and got the score close the MSU fans were going crazy during a timeout. The band was playing and crowd was really into it. My friend noticed that I was scanning the stadium looking all around. "What are you looking at" he asked. My one word answer "passion".

Delusions of Rationality.

You are the guy that said in a post that Rush "lost his balance" and so didn't mean to take Denard down late!

I don't think you would recognize rational through those green glasses.

That's it!

"Dantonio is a hypocrite who hides his ambition behind a bible."

Because he's a Tres disciple.  Tres was dirty back at YSU which most us discovered during the Clarett fiasco. I never bought  the good Christian schtick after that. And a rational person has to ask how similar Dantonio is to his mentor and idol.

I fear you are correct.

And what a shame! M and Bama have two of the best traditional unis in the game.

Get off my lawn!

I liked the throw back uniforms when the NFL started doing it - what a decade ago? Now I am firmly in the "get off my lawn" camp. If OSU isn't getting their pro-combat on then I hope we just go traditional home / away. But I understand your point and it's a good compromise if some uniform stunt has to be done.  I always thought it was great that Michigan wore their throw backs every week!

I liked the UTL unis on both sides and thought that was appropiate for the special occasion. Hopefully we burned the clown unis from the weekend - those were horrible.

BTW Jehuu Caulcrick's tweet

after the Rush late hit.

JehuuCaulcrick Jehuu Caulcrick

I don't care who you are playing you don't take cheap shots like that!

Good post. I agree with everything

except Rush's hit. I'm not sure about losing his balance and having to grab the shoulder pads. The hit was ok - yeah it was high but it wasn't that late - but then it looks like he made the decision to grab Denard and drive him into the turf. That was some dirty BS IMO. I'm not comparing it to past hits by Michigan players, just saying looked like intent to injure.

The punch isn't a big deal to me because Lewan shouldn't have been giving him the WWF treatment. Sure you want your player to just walk away from the situation but that's easier said than done in the heat of the moment. It's not like a player can feel a punch to the helmet / facemask.

The other two looked to be deliberate and premeditated.

Backus.

He was used and abused all day. The Stafford fumble - even thought he recovered it - was his fault. That forced the 3rd and 25 and unable to burn clock.

The throw down

on Denard was ridiculous. Cheap, dirty and typically MSU. The Gholston punch? Ya he should have been tossed but he was reacting to Lewan rubbing his face in the grass.
