I've been listening to Gulati Pod this season. A couple of guys I know who graduated in the early 2010s started up a Michigan football podcast this season. They talk mostly football, but also things like the fan experience in Ann Arbor and news from around the B1G. I'm probably a bit biased, but they're entertaining and I definitely enjoy listening. Plus it drops every Wednesday, so it complements the MGoPodcast schedule nicely.
Do you have to win an MVP to gain a second star? I followed all 21 links and figured that when I reached 10 turns I would be upgraded to two stars, but no such luck. Anyway to bump my stars before the game ends? Just trying to maximize my impact!
How did you compile this list?? Is basketball not a team sport? Why does women's soccer count but not men's? What about men's cross country? What's lacorsse? So many questions.
I propose we only kick field goals the whole game. It would be even more reps for the kicking competition and would also make the game more interesting!
I'm not familiar with how these kinds of camps work, so I don't really have a comparison. It just seemed odd that nearly half of the three hours was spent running, with 50 or so college coaches watching. Didn't seem like the best use of the time.
This probably isn't thread-worthy, but I attended the camp at ODU and figured I would share some of my observations (TL;DR - Harbaugh had a blast and was totally in his element):
Before the camp officially started Harbaugh was all over the field talking to coaches, trainers, etc. As the coaches set up for the first set of drills, Harbaugh was literally setting the cones up. I bet a lot of head coaches don't bother with things like that. It was obvious from the start how much fun he was having.
During the opening/introduction of the camp, the coaches all lined up and introduced themselves to the players (name, school, position coached). When it came to Harbaugh, he introduced himself as "Allen Iverson, Philadelphia 76ers," which the players enjoyed. He then spoke to the players a bit introducing the camp. He started by quoting Iverson's "practice" press conference, but did so to emphasize the importance of practice, and how it prepares you for games. He then made all the players raise their hands and take an oath not to get injured, which made the players laugh.
The first drills of the camp were races (30 yard dash, shuttle) which the players ran in heats according to position. Harbaugh led the drill, screaming instructions to the kids throughout. At the end of each race the other coaches identified the top three for each position group. Harbaugh then brought the kids to midfield and introduced each of them to the crowd, raising their hand like a boxing champ. He had the winners take bows too. This happened for like 30+ kids but he took the same time to introduce them.
After the races, the players split up into position groups across several fields so it got kind of hard to follow everything. As the article stated, he took off and didn't even stay for the closing part of the camp. In my estimation there were 50 or so Michigan fans that were disappointed by that, myself included.
The overall takeaway was how much fun Harbaugh seemed to have. He clearly was in his element and commanded the attention and respect of the players. Probably the most disappointing thing was how coaching/instruction time seemed fairly limited. This may have to do with the ODU camp more than Michigan's camps, however almost half of the camp was spent seeing the players race.
Great post all around. My favorite part may be the shade thrown by the Big East Commissioner: "It's actually a time right now where the student athlete interests are being closely examined."
Brady Hoke Artichoke. I guess I just like artichokes and was looking for a rhyme. I created my avatar through one of those face morph websites (it's Brady Hoke and, you guessed it, an artichoke).
After Hoke got axed I didn't want to change my avatar, so my switch to Artichokes Anonymous seemed appropriate.
Has there been any word from the coaching staff that Smith could be in line for FB snaps? I know the idea has been tossed around here, but I'm skeptical it's a realistic possibility. Even if another RB were to emerge ahead of the pack, I still feel Smith's most influential role on the team would be at RB. Though this conversation may be pointless, as the difference between RB and FB in this offense isn't necessarily significant.
This conversation reminds me of my old fantasy to have Forcier and Denard in the backfield for a goal line set. Endless possibilities in shotgun with Tate as QB and Denard lined up at RB. You have pure option, zone read and screen plays, all of which result in potential throws to the endzone from either player. I think RR might have gotten that creative had Tate stuck around longer.
While I think the defense underperformed, I came away pretty impressed with the IU offense. If that's not the best offense we've faced so far this year, it's not far off. They kept running because it was working, but overall they seemed more balanced than in years past.
Do you know if this applies to expired student IDs too, or just those using someone else's Mcard? If you can show secondary proof of identification would that get you in despite an expired Mcard?
Of all the ridiculous commentary, I think the worst is that they suggested Harbaugh's 'West Coast roots' are perhaps why we played all western teams in the non-conference. Smh.
I was thinking Lindstrom. I think what Brian is getting at is that "Ruddock" is really no more common than "Rudock." Isaac is a misspelling while with Zack v. Zac people choose what they are familiar with. Rudock seems to fit neither category, like Lidstrom.

Yet Gleitman has a CB in for DPJ to Michigan from 12/9.
Also, Colorado and Rutgers have also accounted for 40% of the points against.
He seems to be taking the whole "forfeit the rest of the season to beat Michigan" thing a bit more seriously this year...
I couldn't help but think about having football version of the Jumpan logo, what with Kinnel wearing 23 and fully horizontal in the top photo.
Let's hope they turn out as Brian predicted, but those three positions were a bit rosier than I expected too.

So maybe this has been discussed, but O'Korn and Wheatley both wear 8. This seems like it will be a problem, even if O'Korn doesn't win the job.
