A Glance at the 2017 Recruiting Board

Submitted by Indonacious on

With the commits today, figured it may be relevant.

1 QB: Currently McCaffrey.

3 RB: Currently Taylor, Dillon, and Samuels. May change with outside chance at Harris and Akers.
0-1 FB: Currently Mason; Possibly Carter if Mason is slotted as LB
0-1 TE: Don't really have any obvious targets on the board. Falo Possible.
4 WR: DPJ, Collins, Black, Martin.
8-9 OL: Currently Hall, Stueber, Honingford, and Herbert.
- Most likely also Wilson, Ruiz.
- Possibly Wills, Fillaga, and Slaton.
- Unlikely Leatherwood.

6-9 DL: Currently CMH, Paye, Paea, Jeter, Hudson, Villain.
- Possibly Tufele,
Reitmaier and Irving-Bey.
3-4 LB: Ross currently (Mason could count here as well);
- Likely Singleton, Anthony, and Gay.

1-2 CB: St-Juste currently; Thomas likely
2-3 S: Woods currently; JKP and Hawkins (from previous class) are likely

It seems like based on what's cooking... 32 seems like it is a target number for us. Emphasis on the trenches is pretty clear.

There were obviously other people on the board, but I wanted to keep it pretty streamlined. I will edit in any obvious omissions!

Maybe I should add Aaron Banks who I think harbaugh visited during the bye week.

My guess is 3 unless guys like Browning or Darnay Holmes make it in. I think most of the guys that will commit have been on the radar at the very least. Only a few were complete unknowns at the end of last cycle (Eubanks and Asiasi are the two I can think of). McDoom was sort of out of nowhere but the staff had been pushing for him since before his senior season had even started, so he was a known commodity. That being said, McDoom wouldn't have been on last year's list since he was committed to Oregon, but a bunch of the late commits like Rashan Gary, David Long, Lavert Hill, Kareem Walker etc would have been on the list. I'm sticking with three.

"According to Big Ten associate commissioner Chad Hawley, schools are allowed three over the 85-man limit, not the annual 25-man limit. If, for example, Michigan ends a season with 20 open scholarship spots, then Michigan may sign 23 players." - From "Has Urban Meyer's SEC-Like Recruiting Pushed Big Ten to Its Limits?" a bleacher report article.

Excellent thread.  With Benjamin's recent de-commitment from Iowa and his mention of Michigan he should probably be added to this list.  Hard to say whether this would affect Kurt Taylor's spot but IIRC Eno's avg/rush is 8+ compared to Kurt's 5+

Gotta add- Kurt seems like an awesome guy - tough, loyal.

Also: its Rutger Reitmaier

Some others will drop out. I see absolutely no reason, for example, to take 9 OL. I don't know why someone would want to be part of a 9 person OL class. 6 or 7 is stretching it, 9 is almost a two-deep. I expect some OL and DL guys that are currently in the fold to no longer be in the fold by signing day.

Thanks for the list.

I would hate to see Kurt Taylor not ending up in this class. But what happens if one of the top RBs decides to come to Michigan? I've heard Taylor might be pushed out, which would really suck based on his character, loyalty to the program and the number of times he has visited Michigan. He loves Michigan. Here is to hoping he ends up in the class.

Is it me or are the recruits outrageously outspoken of Michigan's awesome-ness this year? Seems like every time I hear about a visit the recruits are losing their minds with positive vibes, I gotta believe the word is spreading quickly about the powerhouse we're building.. Seems like to transfers are where we'll have the most unexpected recruits, hoping to land a few more Ty Isaac types in the fold too!
