Your opinion on opening at Utah on a Thursday?

Submitted by DISCUSS Man on

I just realized that Michigan's opener for the 2015 season is on a Thursday night.

In fact, I saw on twitter that neither Michigan, OSU nor MSU open their season on a fall Saturday.

Michigan opens at Utah on Thursday the 3rd of September.

MSU opens at Western Michigan (WTF?!) on Friday

OSU opens at Virginia Tech on the 7th, labor day

I don't like this damnit. TOE MEETS LEATHER AT 1 O'CLOCK ON SATURDAY.

MSU signed some deal a couple years back to play a home-and-home with all the directional schools in Michigan.  They actually play a game at Rynearson stadium in a few years.

It's okay.  Not ideal, and certainly I never want to see Michigan playing in the Big House any day besides Saturday, but I'm not going to have an aneurysm over it. Just win in the national spotlight.

Is that since I will be on vacation in London this game might be difficult to watch. Anyone know if there are establishments there that will show this game starting at midnight or 1 AM over there?

Possibly. When I was living in Spain, most sports bars would gladly flip over, if they had whatever game you wanted. This is hugely variable though. They rarely had football but almost always had Michigan basketball. It also helped that bars in Spain are accustomed to staying open quite late. Not really sure about the UK. My advice would be to just log into watchespn or whoever happens to televise it and watch via your tablet or computer.

We get to see the team and new coach in action a couple days before we normally would. It's an away game anyway so it's not affecting tail-gating and game day saturday in Ann Arbor. I'm very much thinking of getting tickets and road tripping down there for kickoff.

I like it. A great way to start the Harbaugh era, having the attention of the entire country to start the season on Thursday night. It will be the highest rated opening night game of the past several years.

I totally agree. It's not like only Michigan and Utah fans will be watching in earnest. Every Sparty and buckeye across the country will have his/her eyes glued to the tube for that one, guaranteed. Any little mistake Michigan makes will be used to validate their moronic claims that "Harbaugh sucks!"

The Monday before game day #1 , you will wake up and be ecstatic that you only have to wait for 3 days instead of 5 to see Harbaughs debut at Michigan. I know I will be.

Plenty of good teams play Thursday night games these days. I'm looking forward to it. Plus we'll have the spotlight pretty much all to ourselves in Harbaughs first game as Michigans coach.

I'm thrilled about the opener being on a Thursday night. I'm going to fly to vegas on that Tuesday, throw some money on UM to cover then drive to Utah on Thursday for the game. Have to watch Harbaugh's first game in person

Honestly? It sucks sandy camel dick. I'm sure I'll have work early Friday morning and won't be able to stay up late for a Thursday night game a couple of time zones away.

I remember several years back the folks on wtka mentioning that as weird as it sounds, a Thursday night game was inevitable for Michigan eventually. Although I can't picture a Thursday night game at the big house any time soon. Now THAT would be weird.
