I'll give him the nod over Morgan, but over THJ?
Is Sullinger not allowed to win freshman of the year if he wins Player of the Year?
I'm hoping that's the rationale because it just seems too dumb of a mistake to make otherwise.
for Yahoo's sake, that they wanted to spread out the accolades.
if by spread out you mean give more players on the same team awards, then yes. I see it as them just trying to reward OSU as much as possible so it doesn't look like all of their success is the result of a one-and-done player like sullinger.
I suppose Yahoo wants Ohio State, just like Charlie Sheen, to be bi-winners...
Thought Morgan might be up for most improved if it's counting through the season, rather than from last year
The fact that Sullinger is the Yahoo POY but not the Freshman of the Year is mind bottling.

content from Chris Balas and TheWolverine.com, but still right there.
It specifcally addresses not awarding Sullinger the FOY and questions giving it to Craft over THJ.
I would take Craft. Their Offensive Ratings are almost identical. Craft plays a more important position and, at least in my opinion, plays better defense.
doesn't that have meaningful value?
The only reason I can see that THJ got snubbed in favor of Aaron Craft is how THJ played for the first half or so of the season. He wasn't terrible, but his stats weren't eye-popping either. But still...and there must be a rule that POY can't win freshman of the year, otherwise that is just backwards.
I would even consider putting JaJuan Johnson above Sullinger and maybe even Taylor. I guess I haven't watched enough of all three to compare in a fair light though, what are your guys' takes?
I really don't have a problem with the teams, but how can the player of the year in the conference, who also is a freshman, not be freshman of the year. It's like in football when the offensive player of the year, who also plays QB, isn't an all conference QB. Oh, wait...
I agree. Seems dumb that a guy could eb the POY but not the freshman as well. Ah well - nice to see Morris get some love.
Craft has far better efficiency, more assists and more steals. Obviously their roles are very differnet, so a statistical comparison doesn't tell you much. Shot attempts and steals - Apples and oranges.
Doesn't seem like a great injustice to me. A supporting player on the #1 team vs a high scorer on a 500 team. Subjective call, especially since TH has changed from an inefficient volume shooter to a star over the last few games.
I think you might want to revise your "inefficient volume shooter" note. This was from the Front Page today
Hardaway's stats are now gross. In his last five games he's made 60% of his threes. Okay, that's a hot streak. It's more than that: since January 9th he's pulled his eFG% up from 42% to 52%. In that stretch of 14 games he's made 48% of his threes. Even if you chuck out the last five games in the other nine he's hit 42%. Over essentially half of Michigan's season—the tough half—Hardaway is hitting half his threes.
Bonus thought: Shouldn't these lists be for Big Ten play only? THJ should have made 3rd team.
I like how Yahoo protects its "featured" writers from having a comments section attached to their posts. Their lowly blog writers get reamed into the next century, but dudes like Jason King and Dan Wetzel get to write willynilly without getting to see their shit flamed.
Not that it really matters anyway, it's just something I noticed.
P.S. Frosh of the year must have been awarded based on who has the rosiest cheeks.
Yep that really pisses me off.
Can't tell you how many times I've wanted to bash Adrian Wojnarowski on there (he of the always-salacious anonymous sources) only to remember that they don't want anyone questioning their sacred cow of the NBA.
No Most Improved Award for Morris?
Yeah, Brooks didn't go from scoring four points a game to being second team all-B1G (or so yahoo says), and improving to about 15 PPG while leading the B1G in assists.
He should be strongly considered for most improved nationally.
All conference teams that couldn't take the floor (four guards and a small forward?) annoy me. Do it by position.
And McCamey's lackadaisical ass getting recognized for anything is a joke. He's been benched three times this year. Take Lewis Jackson or Craft as your third PG.
how about THJr for that third-team spot?
I'd take him over Shurna, Watford, and McCamey, sure. Those three have combined for four minutes of respectable defense all year. The dude clearly looked only at scoring. How else could you possibly nominate Watford.
Hardaway hasn't been great on defense, but he's improved a lot. I'm sure that not much thought was put into this list; preseason stars like McCamey are getting on with their name and reputation alone.
Agreed. He's not great, but there is a vast gulf between "not great" and "Watford and Shurna".
I don't have a HUGE issue with Craft getting recognition over Hardaway. Hardaway is a clearly superior scorer and probably has more upside on the whole, but Craft is probably the premier Defensive PG in the conference, and a valuable facilitator on the best team in the
Conference. I think he'll always be a bit of a role player, but he's been very effective, albeit in a different role than THJ.

That said, not just giving it to Sullinger makes my brain hurt.
