World Cup Day 8 Open Thread
World Cup Day 8 is here. I never want this World Cup to end. England/Uruguay is the big matchup today but I suspect Columbia/Cote d'Ivoire will be a very competitive match.
Group C
Columbia - Cote d'Ivoire 12pm EDT (ESPN / Univision / Watch ESPN)
Group D
Uruguay - England 3pm EDT (ESPN / Univision / Watch ESPN)
Group C
Japan - Greece 6pm EDT (ESPN / Univision / Watch ESPN)
Like Spain it would be hilarious if England did not advance out of group play
I am tired of the English media pimping the English national team like they are the best team ever. All the tabloids do is wax poetic about how GREAT England is in soccer, they're not that good
Really? I glanced a bit at a couple of UK media sites and it seems like they aren't hyping England up that much. They seemed more or less satisfied with how they played against Italy despite the loss.
Not remotely the same. Spain the defending champs and top ranked team in world.
England sucking this game but most pundits didn't expect them advancing from this group.
You'll have to link me to these English media outlets that were boasting about them before the WC. Even the fans I've interacted with were incredibly pessimistic about their chances. Most newspapers I read reflected that sentiment.
Now, English fans may boast when comparing themselves to American soccer and its fans. But not so much with their national team recently.
Mmmm, sexy goal there Uruguay.
This is the Faustian bargain the UK federations have made with FIFA: in return for having four separate "national teams" competing, they get crappy officiating at the World Cup.
Oh Hart nearly let that one in
That was unbelievably close to going in without being touched. Wow
What did Rooney do to be this bad in WC play
My goodness lad
Teased time and time again
Left Everton
But for whatever reason he isn't finishing.
Oh what a chance for Rooney. Muslera in the right place...ouch
Ouch! knee to the face.
Old Roy so predictable...Barkley on in the 61st minute against Italy.
England need Gerrard making runs up forward. Where is Lambert?
Adds some creativity in center of the field.
They need Lambert in there...again, though...Roy brings on Lallana and will soon bring on Wilshere, just like they did vs Italy the other day.
I was surprised he started again today. I don't think that highly of him.
English player decked clearly, no whistle.
Suarez dives like a pro and falls on the ball to get a whistle for nothing.
ROONEY ROFL
HE'S DONE IT
I don't like England much, but I can't really stand the way Uruguay play - they do all of the things that make so many Americans hate soccer and get just plain lucky. I hope England gets another.
Looking rattled. That's the Leighton Baines I know and love. Good save by Muslera to keep it tied
Dagger!
And Suarez again :O
He's just a pure KILLER.
RT @FisolaNYDN The Liverpool connection strikes again, Gerrard to Suarez.
because you know, let's just lie on the ground and pretend we're tired until the match is over.
Yet Rooney will get all the blame in this game like always.
