Cue the Illinois fans (and other various trolls) bitching about Michigan "ducking" them.

Thinking to make a comment with this very sentiment. I'm confident I would not have done it as well as you did.

The only time I duck Illinois is when autocorrect steps in and messes up a good joke.

Did something happen due to the Purdue game? Would we know? Serious question.

It would be odd to justify having the men not play while the women are, since both have been inactive the same stretch of time and need to get back in game condition again...
Unless the men actually have (or had) a covid issue.
I'll wait to hear from our own athletic dept before jumping to conclusions.

The implication is obviously that someone within the men's program has been infected. To crg's point, no reason to postpone the men unless that were the case.
Could have happened during the Purdue game or otherwise. More likely otherwise, in fact. If it occurred during the Purdue game, they'd probably be fine to play by Thursday. More likely something happened since then.

The only thing I can think of is that the men’s team has had fewer games postponed, so they had a little more flexibility. Whereas the women’s team has already had 9 conference games postponed.

It's still deserves an explanation, which if the past is indication, we won't get. MSU sat out 20 days between games when they had actual COVID problems with their team, and that's how many there would have been between UM's Purdue game and the (now postponed) Illinois game.
UM players have been getting treatment and training since at least Friday, and then 3-4 days of practice--that should have been enough to play on Feb 11. Would it be nice to have more practice? Sure. But that's life during COVID; this is the business we've chosen. Unless it is physically dangerous for the players (and there is no indication that it would be; if that's wrong, UM should speak up, esp w the difference btw Women's and Men's bball), games shouldn't be postponed to just be more ready from a basketball perspective (if that's the reason).

Interesting comparing this to MSU. I wasn't aware the whole MSU team self isolated, couldn't not leave their rooms for about 14 days to do any activity like Michigan. From I read MSU continued to work out in small groups.

Zero chance the athletic department is transparent in this situation.

Ive given up trying to make sense out of this

Of course, the women are in better shape than the men and are ready to go. The men need more conditioning.

I believe Howard had said the men’s team would need a week of practice/conditioning after being allowed to gather again before playing a game. I think the Illinois game was canceled because Howard did not think his team would be ready.
