Win streak over Indiana appreciation thread

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on November 24th, 2019 at 12:03 AM

It's the most important week of the year. Our minds are all on it. Fuck ohio.

BUT.

We all have been through the recent blood pressure-raising, heart-thumping games against Indiana lately. This was Michigan's first comfortable road win over Indiana since 2006 when Mike Hart was running for TDs rather than coaching Indiana RBs.

This Indiana team is just outside the Top-25. This was a solid road win. After the PSU game when Indiana was rolling there were many who doubted the streak living on, especially given our road struggles.

The streak-

1988: Michigan 31 Indiana 6
1989: Michigan 38 Indiana 10
1990: Michigan 45 Indiana 19
1991: Michigan 24 Indiana 16
1992: Michigan 31 Indiana 3
1995: Michigan 34 Indiana 17
1996: Michigan 27 Indiana 20
1997: Michigan 37 Indiana 0
1998: Michigan 21 Indiana 10
1999: Michigan 34 Indiana 31
2000: Michigan 58 Indiana 0
2003: Michigan 31 Indiana 17
2004: Michigan 35 Indiana 14
2005: Michigan 41 Indiana 14
2006: Michigan 34 Indiana 3
2009: Michigan 36 Indiana 33
2010: Michigan 42 Indiana 35
2013: Michigan 63 Indiana 47
2014: Michigan 34 Indiana 10
2015: Michigan 48 Indiana 41 (2OT)
2016: Michigan 20 Indiana 10
2017: Michigan 27 Indiana 20 (OT)
2018: Michigan 31 Indiana 20
2019: Michigan 39 Indiana 14

24 in a row is tied for the longest active streak in the nation among series that are actively played.

Fuck IU and Tom Allen for thumping their chests all this week saying we disrespekt them and treating this game like its their super bowl (with a lot more empty seats)

Go put that energy towards OSU instead of acting like you're allies with them like Ruggers tried to do with Ash. You don't see Tom Allen pre-game speeches before their games against OSU

Sick of schools hating us just to hate us but never giving a shit about trying against OSU

Interestingly enough, the other 24 game ongoing winning streak that we are tied with also includes Indiana...versus Ohio State.

We only need 19 more wins to break the all-time winning streak record versus a single opponent (Navy vs. Notre Dame)

So, for perspective, the last year that Michigan lost to IU:

- "The Cosby Show" was the top rated TV program.

- "Beverly Hills Cop II" was 1987's top-grossing movie.

- The first "Simpsons" short debuted on "The Tracey Ullman Show."

- IBM launched its PS/2 line of computers.

Some times I'll just be living my life and doing random stuff when all of a sudden it dawns on me that against Indiana in 2013, Devin Gardner threw for over 500 yards and Jeremy Gallon had 369(!!!) receiving yards. Undoubtedly the weirdest game I ever attended as a student, and that includes UTL.

These appreciation threads are a joke.  We have one of the highest paid coaches, a lot of talent, incredible facilities and we spend a fortune on our football program.  We are supposed to win these games.

When we have OSU's success then I'll start supporting these threads rather than going on a rant when we just do our jobs which we did well yesterday.

Lets start with OSU is the only big time school ;in a state with the 6th largest population in the US

The academic requirements are lower (easier to add kids that cant get into Michigan.N Dame etc)

now for the football part of it...

since Harbaugh arrived at Michigan ONLY Alabama has put more players into the NFL (drafted, free agent signings)

NFL.com - Official Site of the National Football League

Has OSU had more success than Michigan? in the past 51 years Ohio St has one more National Championship  than Michigan

All  Time Michigan has more wins, more conference wins, more conference titles, more National Championships.a better head to head record ...

Asshats who can't decide to change the channel instead of whining about other people just enjoying what they've got are a joke.  Don't like them?  DON'T CLICK THE LINK!!!

19 in a row is hard to do in sports, it's worth taking a second to stop and give a nod, that's all for which this post is intended.

When we cheat like OSU to get what OSU does?  No, I'll appreciate my team, for what it does, honestly.  But hey, you seem to think made-for-tv is better than cinema, so go root for those buckeyes.

You know who else has a highly-paid coach?  Purdue.  So does Nebraska.  And their athletic departments can afford it less than Michigan's can.

Texas is paying the Mensa Man a lot of money (and it will cost them even more to fire him) and he's delivered a 23-15 record.

From 2008-14, we went 46-42 as a football program.  Jim is now 47-16.  Think about that for a minute.

With Comet Sparty heading back into deep space, the best IU will see is 4th in the East. Let that sink in. Imagine rooting for a team that has zero chance of seeing its conference championship game for the foreseeable future. Yet I'd still rather have them in the B1G than Rutgers or Maryland.

Until I looked it up, I had no recollection of the 99 game (I was born in 88). Wow. Up 17-0 early to trailing in the 4th quarter but rallied to kick a go ahead field goal with about 20 seconds left. Then again, that was against the quintessential #ChaosTeam player of all time: Antwan Randal El.

Man that series was really a wild ride starting in the Richrod years. Hopefully Harbaugh has finally reset it back to the usual norm. That was an ass-kicking of one of the best IU teams of this entire streak

In contrast, since Indiana blocked that punt and fell on it in the end zone to beat us 14-10 in 1987, here is how many times they have defeated the rest of the B1G....

Illinois: 9 wins

Iowa: 9 wins

Maryland: 4 wins

Michigan State: 5 wins

Minnesota: 10 wins

Nebraska: 1 win

Northwestern: 10 wins

Ohio State: 1 win

Penn State: 1 win

Purdue: 13 wins

Rutgers: 4 wins

Wisconsin: 6 wins

I’m just glad the game was only a stupid Indiana game for about a quarter.

I was in Bloomington the last time we lost to Indiana.  The weather sucked and the team did not play well.  I have vowed to keep my negative waves away from since.
