Win the bowl game

I don’t care if we play in the Weedeater Bowl. Win the game. It’s time for Michigan to drop the elitist attitude. No, the Holiday Bowl or Gator Bowl, or whatever bowl is not beneath us. Use the practice time to get better, stomp your opponent like we did in 2015, and use it as a springboard towards next year. Stop acting like we are an elite football power because our helmets have wings and we have a popular fight song. Under Harbaugh we are as good as we have been in the past 70-80 years. Michigan football is a 70-75 pct win program. Like it’s been since the leather helmet days. Difference is now there are a handful of Big Ten teams as good, and one (OSU) who is on an unprecedented run of dominance over the conference. If we ever want to be anything other than a school clinging to glory from before WW2, the whole program needs a dose of humility and needs to get hungry for success. I just feel like the whole program is soft and has been for years. From top to bottom. We act like college football royalty but don’t produce like it.

You must be new around here. We don’t win bowl games. In fact, we are 3-9 in our last twelve bowl games. Our program does not win big games against good competition anymore.

Depends on which team we play. We aren’t winning anything real until we have players as good as the teams who win the real games. And that’s simply not happening here.  We just have to pray for the 1 out of 20 year fluke where the teams with the best players mess up enough and we get lucky enough to steal a win.  It’s a completely different level now.  Yay.

We had players sitting out of a NY6 bowl game last year after the Bucks dropped 60 on them; you’d like to think that they’d want to end their career playing for “the team, The Team, THE TEAM” with a more positive final impression than that, but they didn’t.

There’s probably a reason for that, beyond not wanting to get hurt in advance of the NFL combine.  It may be the same reason you see so many players transferring out of the program.

What if the players are as sick of the coach as the fanbase is?  Not that much of a stretch.

Anyway, screw the bowl game.  Another opportunity to watch us mess up a wet dream.

Defense usually comes up small in the bowl games but lets hope we can outscore who ever we play. And of course not drop 12 passes.

We typically get in a better bowl and play tougher competition. Fans travel and spend big money following the team. Overall our record is below .500.Even though we had a senior QB, this was a rebuilding year if you look at the ages on our roster objectively. Michigan is not in a. Position to challenge for the big ten every year. Next year our lines should be in better shape for really challenging OSU.

I agree with most of your post, but what tells you our lines, on either side, will be better?

Our Oline does not seem to get the push OSU was getting yesterday, and the dline got destroyed many times this year.

We need a Mo Hurst, Chris Wormley, etc. line, and we are Hoping Hinton and Mazi develop in to that. Dwumfour never did sadly.

Much like last season, I expect the OSU ass whooping to lead to an uninspired bowl performance. UM is a big name brand, they'll probably get a matchup with a good team and be drubbed. I hope they change my mind but UMs history in bowls is rather awful. Bo had a terrible bowl record. Jim is headed that way too.

Lol, ok. This team will lay down like a dog and get crushed in the bowl, just like they always do. The players who are left, anyway. Several will quit on the team to prep for the draft.

Look I agree or you accept the bid and just make it known “look...we are treating this like a scrimmage to get some extra practice for next year.”  I’m sure the bowl host would be pissed as that would be disrespectful, but so what?

With that UM/USC game a few years back (hell and damn near every year) UM looked completely unprepared and disinterested. It sucks. On the other hand if harbaugh came out and said the below I wouldn’t have as much of an issue....

“we are excited to get the opportunity to play in the Buttplug Toyota fisting bowl. This is huge for us to get extra work with our team and prep for next year. We want all our fans out to make this a fun, fan filled and focused event but I want to be clear we are using this as an opportunity to prep for next year and as such will be going into this game with more of a “live scrimmage” mindset. Certainly hope to win the ballgame but that’s not our primary focus here and will be taking more of a spring game approach”

how pissed would the bowl host be lol? What feels disheartening to me is them acting like it’s important and outing together a game plan only to go out there and look lost.

so overall I agree with you or if you do think you are too good then say that. Tell us all it’s practice, you don’t care, and we shouldn’t either.

I'd actually be excited for the Holiday Bowl.  San Diego is a great destination.  Much better than the central Florida bowls we've gone to 70 times.
