Will the Natty Inspire the Lions?

The Pistons won their first NBA championship in 1989, right after the Wolverines won their first NCAA tournament championship.  Can our CFP championship inspire the Lions to their first Super Bowl win?

They need to find an excuse to get Aidan a ring. He stayed and he led the team through the transition to a dominant force in college football.

And he did it by dominating. It's still shocking to read the UFR: +39.5!

Also shocking: Our DL this year, as a whole, was better. The best in the country. The best we've ever had.

All I know is the Lions organization is leveraging this season, hard.  The season ticket price hikes I’m hearing about are pretty hardcore.  They better be sure they are good.  Come out and get smacked in this game 40-13 and there are going to be some pissed off fans.

Technically, that Detroit Lions season was already over (the playoff loss to TB where Scott Mitchell completed 40% of his passes for 78 yards occurred on Sunday 12-28-1997) a few days before Michigan's football season ended (1-Jan-1998).

In the case of Michigan's 1989 basketball and 1998 hockey titles --- the Pistons' and Red Wings' seasons were still on-going when Michigan's season ended.

Net --- what I'm about to say is not false.  The last 2 times Michigan won a National Championship and the Detroit professional team's season in the same sport was still on-going, Detroit won the League Title.  The 2023-24 Lions fall into this group.

Yes.  The Lions were planning on losing until they saw a local college win.  Now they have changed things up and are planning on winning.

Great post, OP.

I truly hope they do win. I lived in Buffalo during the 4 year run and the so-called Music City miracle (It was a forward pass!) so I understand how hungry a city and region can be.

But like Lucy, Charlie Brown and the football, I have to see the Lions win a playoff game before I can solidly banish those three letters that spel out the sun in Latin.

Maybe it'll trigger Hutch to light the fuse. Tends to motivate.

Draft Sainristil. Pursue college Team Captains ala Brian Branch/Hutch/Campbell as Harbaugh does with the portal. Like mini-coaches all over the field.

In re-watching the CFC game the level of communication pre-snap on that defense was amazing.

I mean, the same year as the 1997 NC season, the Red Wings got to keep the Stanley Cup at the Joe.

But let's be real, the Lions have a long way to go. The road goes through San Francisco and Baltimore

It would be nice if Michigan inspired the Lions to win the super bowl. Overall, the NCF this season is kind of week. So, anything is possible. But I can name 3 AFC that would defeat our Lions. Raven's, Bill's, and Chiefs.
