Will Campbell named to 'Super Sleeper Team'

Submitted by MattisonMan on

NFLDraftCountdown put out a list today of their 'Super Sleeper Team,' with Will Campbell as one of two DT selected.

http://draftcountdown.com/features/Super-Sleepers.php

They seem to be struggling with what exactly a 'sleeper' is these days, but this is a good indicator of what they think means:

None of these guys were invited to the Scouting Combine and, honestly, most of them will go undrafted. However, they are all prospects who I like and feel have the potential to make a NFL roster and contribute.

They also list previous members of their 'sleeper' lists that have had impacts in the league:

Eric Foster (Colts), Brian Witherspoon (Jaguars), Mike Cox (Chiefs), Brett Kern (Broncos), Steven Hauschka (Ravens), Mackenzy Bernadeau (Panthers), Aaron Brown (Lions), Ryan Succop (Chiefs), Nick Reed (Seahawks), Larry Hart (Jaguars), Deji Karim (Jaguars), Reggie Stephens (Bengals), Jorrick Calvin (Eagles), Joe Webb (Vikings), Sam Shields (Packers), Daniel Kilgore (49ers) and David Carter (Cardinals). Last year's team had Mike Harris (Chagers), Gino Gradkowski (Ravens) and Greg Zuerlein (Rams).

Big Will showed signs that he could be a NFL type player.  His problem was consistancy and work ethic early in his career.  If he can improve like he did last year he should stick with a team atleast for a year or two

He's the only one I have ever heard of on that list, and the fact that I've only heard if Joe Webb and Sam Shields from their past picks doesn't really help that. Good luck to BWC though, he definitely deserves a shot.

I certainly hope they're right about Campbell.  He definitely improved his play his senior year and is worth at least a look by some NFL teams.  He seems to have been a victim of over-hype as a high school senior and a combination of poor work habits / poor coaching / changing positions his first few years.

If only Big Will had gotten a redshirt year and 4-5 years of Mattison and Hoke. I feel like he could've been much better. He was a project, but the coaches were definitely making progress with him. If I was a GM (knowing what I know), I'd probably take Will in the 5th-7th rounds knowing that that potential and coachability is there

Poor will? He deserves exactly where he is... Going half assed for four years despite everyonetrying to awaken him... Matriarchs deserve what they get.

This isn't meant to sound bad, but I think Will would dominate in the CFL. No shame in playing there. Pro football is pro football.

Unless it's the Arena league, which is gladiators in plastic.

Campbell will at least make an NFL rooster once, since guys his size are hard to come by. If he lands where the coaching is solid, he has a chance to be a backup or situational lineman at least

that his play put you to sleep. Sorry, but to do well at this position, in college or the NFL, you've got to have a high motor, and Campbell just doesn't have it. It's not something that just hits you after you graduate and you realize you've been lolly gagging all through college. You've either got it or you don't.

I hope Campbell sticks.  He has enough size and strength to intrigue, I suppose.  For someone like him, you'd have to consider it a success if he hung on to a roster spot for multiple years.  I'm pullin for him.

I also wish he could have another year with Hoke/Mattison... but it is what it is.  I also think he can have a solid pro career, but he really needs the right situation.
