will campbell

from rivals here is what they said:

DT William Campbell, Detroit Cass Tech: LSU and Miami are getting official visits, but USC seemingly has this one right. The Trojans aren't pushing hard for Campbell despite his talent because they seem to be hearing what I am hearing: Campbell will end up at Michigan in the end.

get all keyed up with the ups and downs of recruiting, especially the kids' verbals.

That said, this is one guy we really need to get in the fold. A couple of seasons with Big Will and Martin clogging the middle would be fantastic.

If Will goes maize and blue, then I dont think we're going to be all that bad next on the DL despite some serious persinnel losses.

Nick Perry was never a lock for UM.  Unless, of course, you believed the idiots who said that when he was a couple weeks removed from saying MSU was his favorite.

No one can be considered a "Lock" when they shut out everyone immediately after Pete Carroll visits.  Happened in both prior cases, while Big Will has been to I think every home game this year.  People were just too keyed up to believe one of those guys wouldn't come to play for us, which is absurd when USC had what they had compared to us.

The bottom line is that the kid should go where he is going to be happy. I don't think that I would blame him if he saw LSU or USC as viable options, since both programs are in a much better state than ours. I am a little surprised about Miami being on his list, but I think that real problem is that these kids are expected to commit much earlier than they should. It is disturbing that players like Campbell cannot enjoy their senior seasons without dealing with all of this stress, and I think that programs fool themselves if they really take any of these commitments seriously.

Will Campbell has been at every home game this year other than the MSU game.  Cass Tech had a game that day.

And recruits should go where they fit the best, whatever their reasons are.  The last thing a program needs is a big time recruit come in, take a scholarship spot, take game reps, scare off other recruits, and then bolt after their freshman year.  (See Mallett, Ryan)

I don't get upset with recruits who change their mind prior to signing.  But signing then leaving after a year hurts both the player (having to sit out a year) and the team.  Best for for all parties involved to get it sorted out prior to signing on the dotted line.

I know everybody says he's basically a lock for UM, but given how this season has gone in the crapper in every possible category it would be no surprise to me if he said, "um, no thanks." I would think our aces in the hole would be that Wilcher is his coach and that Cissoko is already here, but with a Michigan man down at LSU and our program heading god knows where, I'm not assuming anything.

Does very little to sway the minds of recruits.  That's just something fans enjoy blowing their shit about.

When rivals reports that USC isn't pushing too hard, then it's a damn good sign that he's coming to Michigan.  When USC came to Rojo and Nick Perry's door, they were as good as gone.  Campbell is obviously more sold on us than they were.

And if he's interested in LSU, it's not because Les is a fucking Michigan Man.  Damn you people.
