Wichita State officially to the AAC (NTACC)

Dollars to donuts the MVC replaces them with Valparaiso.

AAC, meanwhile, becomes a very intriguing, if ever more far-flung, basketball conference.  Despite SEC tourney success this year, I could see it falling below the AAC in overall basketball prowess.

This is great for the school in all sports. It's disappointing a bit because I have been working on the ESPN 3 broadcasts for all the spring sports and the AAC doesn't have a contract with ESPN to do internet broadcasts so that part time money is gone, but I'm excited for WSU. There are some really tremendous fans here, it'll be great to see them play some higher level competition.

Cincinnati is my 2nd team I follow.  Very happy to have another quality opponent in conference.  If UConn and Memphis can get back on track you are looking at a very solid core.  Still lots of shit at the bottom though.

Great for WSU. They sell out their arena for every game. The support there is great. Wichita State needed to move up leagues with all the success they have had. Awesome move!

I was reading about this at lunch at this seminar. I tend to agree with the author of the one piece - Wichita State coming in should hopefully be the cue for UConn and Memphis to get their act together again.

I quoted "passed over" because do you necessarily WANT to go to the MVC?  Is it obviously a better conference with Wichita State (and previously Creighton) now gone?  The answer is probably "yes", but I don't think it's a clear "yes."

Anyway, I know the private/public balance is a somewhat sensitive issue among the MVC schools.  Creighton leaves, replace with a private school.  Wichita State leaves, I think they'll replace with a public school.  UIC may be the number one candidate.  The Wisconsin schools (Milwaukee & Green Bay), the Dakota schools and Murray State also all plausible.

Wichita State has been playing really good basketball, and it is nice to see them move into a conference with better competition.
