Why is the board so testy & toxic lately?

Submitted by DISCUSS Man on

Can't we all just get along? So many personal shots and attacks going on in many threads and that bothers me.

we're all different and we all have different backgrounds and come from different places but we come here because we're all Michigan fans.

The pending doom of finals over the next few weeks and gray skies has the overall campus atmosphere just as testy and toxic as this board right now. Cheer up everyone, heres some nostalgia to put a smile on your face!

I for one love the sarcasm. It's all I know in life, and couple it with being Michigan fans, it's like I finally found an Internet home. I appreciate the good times we get to celebrate together, and when shit like last Saturday happens, we get to vent and move on with life. It's important to live up to the standards set by this site, but also important to be ourselves and let it fly...so long as it doesn't attack players, posters, etc. Just enjoy it, because this sure beats RCMB trash.

1. It's depressing that it gets dark so early this time of year.

2. That thing happened against MSU.

3. 42-13

4. The news is awash with a new mass shooting every week.

5. MBB doesn't look as good as we hoped.

6. Disney is in charge of Star Wars

7. Processed meats are carcinogens.

But mostly that thing that happened against MSU. Fuck.

The football team was a massive disappointment, the basketball team will probably be a massive disappointment, and Staee might win the Big Ten and make the playoffs o$u and Staee win national titles and Michigan hasn't sniffed a conference title in a decade Otherwise everything's peachy

In a thread a while back I was asked in response to a comment, why we as fans shouldn't give ourselves over to fantastic expectations. If someone wants to abandon reason and take as an article of faith that MIchigan was going to win out and make the playoffs, it's just their priviledge as a fan. My answer was the great danger that a season that fell short of that but still met or exceeded preseason expectations would be seen as a failure, and the board would sink into a swamp of negativity.

Witness where we all find ourselves. Rationally, while I certainly wanted a fairy tale season, this one exceeded my preseason expectations, both in the over all record and the way the team generally played. MSU was a fluke, and I attribute the gap against OSU to injuries and the high probability that Durkin's job search interfered with his preparation for "the Game".

Despite the Utah game, the impossible seemed possible right up to the point where it wasn't. So, given last year, an otherwise solid turn around season ends ugly laced with coaching uncertainty and disappointments magnify and this blog polarizes.

OSU not withstanding it was a good regular season. I have no expectation for the bowl but I'm sure the coaching staff will make excellent use of the extra practices. Durkin's departure, and the nature of his departure, are troubling, but I have complete confidence that Harbaugh will fill Durkin's slot and any other staff openings with coaches at least as good as any who leave.

The future looks bright. Lets put steel in our spines and move forward.
