Who is your favorite Michigan player of all time?

Submitted by Above and Beyond on

This is likely a cliché thing to ask and post on a message board. If so, feel free to delete. I'm just trying to talk as much football as possible.

If you had to just choose one, who is your all-time favorite Michigan football player? Below is mine.

I have a thing for Michigan running backs. Mike Hart #1 in my heart. My friends and I used to yell Mike Hart does what we wants at the TV during games. During xbox sessions of ncaa football as well. Wheatley & Biakabatuka after that.

Hopefully we find another all-time back soon.

Harmon. No doubt there. All-American, Heisman Trophy Winner and All-Around BadMF.

Harmon's P-38 was shot down over the Yangtze River by a Japanese Zero during a dogfight. According to some accounts, Harmon shot down two Zeros in a dogfight over the Kiukiang docks and warehouses. Harmon was awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star for his actions with the 449th Fighter Squadron.

Harmon saved his silk parachute from the crash of his P-38, and it was used as the material for his wife's wedding dress.

But to keep it fair, since not everyone can have such a story...mine would go something like this:

2) Desmond

3) AC

4) CW

5) HARBAUGH

6) Jamie Morris

7) Wheatley

8) Brady

9) Rick Leach

10) Braylon

HMs: Denard, Tony Boles, Steve Breaston

You did say Top 10 Fav Michigan football players w/Honorable Mentions, right...?

First for his on-field stuff, but also because he's still so involved with M in many ways off the field - Motts, etc.  The guy loves Michigan and proves it year after year.

Jake Frysinger. Played junior football with him for the Woodhaven Sabres (until he got big and moved to Grosse Ile). I always thought that it was cool to see him play for UM.

Desmond - Childhood favorite.  I was finally old enough to start understanding the game when he was playing.

Griese - He doesn't get much love from the fans, but he did lead us to a MNC.

Woodson - Best overall player of my lifetime.

Biakabutuka - I could watch the 1995 OSU game every day for the rest of my life and still not get bored with it.

These two represented both our school and our country extremely well.

But for football it has to be Woodson. Maize, Blue, Silver, and Black.

Edit: And I can't forget Denard. Dear god his break-out season was a thing of beauty. Wishing him the best in the league.

Overall: Woodson. He talked the talk, but man did he ever back it up in the field. He became the bane of OSU's existence for several years, and that's good enough for me. He had a type of swagger that has not been seen within this program for a long, long time.

Favorite Since I've Become a Michigan Fan: Burke. The kid just had ice in his veins. No moment was too big for him. Without him, we don't come anywhere close to a national title. The fact that he came from Columbus and that Matta chose to pass on him makes his accomplishments here all the better.
