Who do we want to win the B1G title game (BCS-wise)?

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

I'm a little bit confused on who to want to win. Obviously, I want state to be crushed and their fans to sob and cry infinite tears.

But I heard on ESPNEWS, they had the BCS expert on, he said Michigan fans want state to win because it will knock wisconsin down from 15 and Michigan would slide in if UGA loses. He also said, a wisconsin blowout win will drop state, but it might hurt Michigan in the computer rankings. Apparently, the computers do not like Michigan because they didn't play a strong OOC schedule.

The question is, what team winning would benefit Michigan the most in the BCS standings?

Correct. Communism still spreading!!  Barack Delaney must go!  Kidding :)  Fun thread full of insightful talk and I enjoy, but with all due respect I think it's quite irrelevant.  Even with another down-to-the-wire, hail-mary finish FINALLY bringing the greatest college football game of all time to a breath-taking end in the 83rd overtime..... Michigan still moves ahead of the loser, period.  Really, our only (BCS related) rooting interest lies in the prison cell, recently renamed the Southeastern Athletic Conference, where we simply need LSU to take care of business;  a confident situation.  Agreed??

That being said, let revenge be a bitch!  Upon an intensely scrutinized study of the B1G finalists' tendencies, coupled with a surgical statistical analysis of both teams' seasons, I have concluded, quite assuredly, that the exact following events will unfold if my air tight figures and calculations are indeed correct:

  1. Wisconsin's OL steamrolls Gholston who is promptly replaced by a helmet-less, padless, mouth piece-less Izzo.
  2. This substitution will be coincidentally followed by a sudden rule change which states "Upon entry of an Izzo into the game, all 10 of his teammates MUST leave him on the field, helpless, scared and alone."
  3. My calculus goes on to predict that Izzo will either be effortlessly badger-rolled, or the more predictable outcome that he will just scream himself into an aneurism.

If anyone can take my honest pick on the game seriously after that biased blather, my (monopoly) money is with Vegas.  If I remember right, Wisco gashed State pretty bad on the ground in October.  Although State went on quite the run through the meat of the game (31-3), I would argue that the roll was less of the imposing, dominating variety and more of the, bounce of the ball, timely stops, break of the game variety.  Perhaps an embellishment, but that's how I seem to remember the game.  I would be really surprised to learn that State won any one of the T.O.P, Yds Rushing or First Down categories in that game. Not to totally discredit their win, but I'm just sayin... and I think most football observers would agree, it's safe to say that WIsconsin passed the eyeball test as the better, more oiled team in that matchup.

State is probably the most aggressive team in the B1G with their LBs, and Ball and Co. were still gashing them up the middle regularly.  State somehow survived that bleeding at home in October but if they want a chance at winning again, they're going to have to play with both safeties up, leaving them vulnerable to the deep ball.  The Cheese's OL could have a little more trouble seeling of the ends now that Gholston is out on bail, but even still...  Decided advantage to Badgers Ground Game vs State front 7-9.

Factor in the revenge angle, all the big- game choking criticism that Wisc Seniors are giddy to buck, and just the sheer bad odds of beating a better/equal team twice, Wisconsin ROLLS as Biellema so tastefully goes for two in a blowout, WITH his starters, while maintaning the sheepish, DB smirk the whole way.  Having said all that, if they do somehow lose, they will be officially validated as Football's biggest cupcake-eating FRAUDS.

Forewarning: If State somehow prevails, and despair appears to reign, don't choke from the bitter taste of "Michigan State University: Innagural B1G Championship Game Winners."  Instead, just pull out the "First Big Ten Baskteball Tournament Champions" card and listen to all Sparties fall silent!!  :)))  I hope an attempt at a bit of mild humor went over okay for my innagural post.  It at least helped me break up an otherwise excruciating night of studying :((  Go Badgers, Go Bulldogs, and whatever you do, PLEASE take the over on the Michigan vs Houston number :)))  Good night!!!!

I know about the media hype and PR. My question is, how much is that worth?

Our PR is already amazing. If we make a BCS Bowl, it will probably be at the expense of one-loss Stanford. The reason is because "This is Michigan, for God's sake".

From what I know about bowl payouts, that whole line is a fraud. Read Death to the BCS; it says that despite the big payouts (which are pooled by the conference, so Minnesota gets some of our BCS bowl money), teams generally lose money anyways because they have to fly an entire program (team, staffers, band) somewhere, house them, feed them, give per diem stipends, buy bowl gifts, etc. Michigan stays at the Beverly Wilshire when it goes to the Rose Bowl. Do you know how much that costs?!

The only thing I can come up with is something about recruiting. But games are late in the process (and during a dead period), so the player generally has his mind made up. I also don't know a sane player who would decline an offer to Michigan (assuming it was his early favorite) because the BCS bowl chose to invite Stanford. It doesn't seem that important.

I'm cheering for MSU to lose, just like I'd be cheering for OSU to lose if they were in the game.  If it were clear that if MSU win would make Michigan go to a BCS bowl, then I would want MSU to win.  But I doubt I could stomach watching that game.

But this is not the case.  Scenerios exists with UM going to a BCS bowl game regardless of who wins the B1G Championship.

Some have said here that what I'm doing is Sparty-esque.  That's stupid.  I represent UM well, don't talk ridiculous trash, and hate to see my team play dirty.  I just hate MSU and don't want them representing the B1G - AIN'T NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT!

And frankly, UM going to a top non-BCS bowl game on New Years Day won't crush me in the slightlest.  We've had a great year and I'm looking forward to their bowl game.  It'll be a blast.  Let the BCS mess work itself out the way it crazily does.  I don't think anyone on this board is saying UM is a top 8 team, right?

8 teams play in the BCS, and if we get chosen, all the better.  To me it doesn't validate our season any more than what I've seen for myself: we are on our way back b/c of our coaches, our hard work and team-first attitude, our senior leadership, a top rectruiting class coming in, and a 10 win season plus win over OSU.  A BCS boal based on what other teams do or don't do, based on bowl committees picking us over other teams ranked higher just doesn't make me feel any better about our season.  I'm already satisfied.  This was such a great season.

Go Blue!  Go Wiscy over Sparty.

A bigger concern should be if OU and/or Clemson win because that would likely put two teams from the Big XII and ACC in the BCS. And even if Georgia wins only two SEC teams can go to the BCS anyway. So cheer big for Ok State and VT.

As it currently stands, Michigan (15) is ranked ahead of Sparty (16) by the computers. Won't another delicious Sparty loss drop them further? And, combined with a drop in human rankings, aren't they assured to drop below Michigan? We can safely root hard for Bucky. Nobody likes Sparty.

Any team that helps Michigan. But in this case the loser will drop below us. Since sparty is always rooting against us, I must recipricate. Moo U doesn't deserve to be called champions. I just don't see it. I hate the dbag coach. Moo U has a terrible campus, shitty band, and their hockey and basketball teams sux too. Wisky has been no problem for us. They are a good school and have great traditions.
