Who's the Next No 1

Submitted by Hail-Storm on

Thought this might be fun and a good break from conference expansion/explosion topics. After reading the Braylon Edwards post and comments, I got to thinking, who are people predicting will be the next Michigan player to don the No 1 Jersey? Do you think he's in AA now, or coming in the next class? Personally I think Roy Roundtree has an excellent chance of having a break out season this year and No 1 making its debut after a couple year hiatus.

I hate to be a downer, but I don't think the next #1 is here in AA yet (or has taken the field).

I remember seeing Braylon and Manningham (didn't wear it but could have) and just knowing that no matter what the situation, they were going to beat the defense and come up with a HUGE play. There is certainly no doubting that Navarre/Henne had something to do with this, but I'm just not convinced that our offense (as constructed) currently has a dominating receiver capable of wearing the #1.

For my money, I see the next #1 being a bigger, more Athletic possession type receiver. Ricardo and Conway both come to mind, but they're also both MILES away from consideration.

I'm hoping he can have a coming out party this year.  I know he's not the fastest, but he does have a knack for beating the corners deep.  I feel he would like to show what he can do when he's healthy and is ready to take out his frustrations on opposing Ds.

I am with Blazefire on this, outside shot, but the guy wants to make those types of plays, get the ball in his direction when the game is on the line, he will make the catch.

No, shit, Blazefire... Denard is going to get the snap, chuck it on a rope, and BLAZE his Dilithium ass downfield to catch, run, score, Heisman pose, and spike that shit to the tune of 6 points (no penalty, can't explain).   And probably kick the extra.

C'mon Blazefire, you and some other guy are my 2 favorite posters... embrace the vision!

EDIT:  too much Chardonnay and poor reading... several of you tried this with even less gusto.  My bad.  Go easy.

Q: What are things we should worry about after we finish with a winning record.

Suck it Trebek.

I agree with your point above - no idea why you are getting negged for it (probably just because people LOVE to neg negativity on this board).

I mean, really - the #1 jersey is an interesting thought that should be tabled for a time TBD.  It's already been brought up two or three times this offseason and it's only mid-June.  I am far more concerned with who on defense steps up, what number our starting QB will be wearing this year, and if any RB will step up into a starting role.

I hope either Ricardo Miller (because I think he will be a great representative of the University) or Shawn Conway (because he is a man-child who I think will dominate) will wear it.

Is anyone aware of what criteria has been used or is planned to be used to make this decision? Besides knowing past players that have worn it, I don't know if its purely a gut feeling about a player after or season, or if Braylon has worked with RR to create some criteria, like a minimum of this many catches and yards, must be a wide reciever and not primarily slot reciever, and then its a gut decision. Any knowledge or even assumptions would be appriciated.

Aram Keteyian is the current #1.  Surprisingly, he is not the starter.  That would be Chris Blais, although he wears #23.  Must have been a Jordan fan growing up...

Oh sorry, I thought this was a discussion about who will be the next GK on the Men's Soccer Team to wear the #1 jersey.  I made this assumption as surely we couldn't be having the same #1 jersey conversation about football, again.
